One Day Trip to Uji & Fushimi Inari Taisha

From Osaka to Uji (53 minutes): JR Tokaido Line Osaka Station > JR Kyoto Station > [Transfer to Nara Line] > JR Nara Line Kyoto Station > JR Uji Station Matcha Town - Uji, Kyoto Byodo-in Temple is the most popular attraction in Uji. It was established in 1053 AD and was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. The most famous building in Byodo-in is the Phoenix Hall, which is located in the center of Aji Pond. The design on the 10 yen coin is the Phoenix Hall, showing its significance to Japan. The street leading to Byodo-in, Omotesando, is very retro, filled with traditional Japanese buildings. If you are a matcha lover, this street is like paradise! Fushimi Inari Taisha is mainly for praying for business, wealth, and wisdom. The highlight of Fushimi Inari Taisha is the Senbon Torii (Thousand Torii Gates). Each torii gate here is donated by worshippers. The number of torii gates at Fushimi Inari Taisha has exceeded ten thousand, and they are closely packed together, creating a spectacular sight that even sunlight can hardly penetrate. People started donating torii gates around the Edo period (17th century), and after hundreds of years, the torii gates seem to stretch endlessly forward. Travel Tips: Fushimi Inari Taisha and Uji are both on the JR line, so no transfer is needed (both places also have Keihan stations, but transfers are required). It takes less than 30 minutes to travel between these two spots, making it convenient to visit them together.
