Donghua Chan Temple | Shaoguan | Originally built during the Southern Liang Dynasty
The Sixth Patriarch of Chan Buddhism, Huineng, returned south after inheriting the robe and bowl from the Fifth Patriarch.
He passed through this temple and practiced in seclusion, changing its name from Lingjiu Temple to Donghua Chan Temple.
It flourished during the Tang and Song Dynasties, but was destroyed in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
