The lamplighter on Cathedral Island in Wroclaw

Walk north from the Old Town of Wrotław to the bank of the Odra River. You can see several mini islands. Walk across two bridges and you will arrive at the Church Island (Ostrow Tumski), which is the earliest developed area in Wrotław and also has the most representative cathedral. The cathedral was also destroyed by artillery fire during World War II. One side of its twin towers was blown up, but people later used the remaining building materials to rebuild it. In the evening, climb the cathedral tower (with elevator) to overlook the city. After dark, the lamplighter wearing a tall black hat and traditional coat will appear and start lighting up the island's gas street lamps one by one, starting in front of the cathedral. I followed the lamplighter all the way to light up all 108 gas street lamps on the island. I really admire their adherence to tradition. #AprilGoodDestinations2025
