Wuxi 'Talent' Place - Xiaolou Lane

Xiaolou Lane, located in Liangxi District, Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province, is one of the four major historical and cultural districts in Wuxi. This is the ancestral home of the prominent Tan and Qin families of Wuxi. Over several centuries since the Song Dynasty, Xiaolou Lane has produced 1 top scholar (zhuangyuan), 13 successful candidates in the highest imperial examinations (jinshi), 15 successful candidates in the provincial examinations (juren), and nearly 80 successful candidates in the county-level examinations (xiucai). From ancient times, it has produced teachers of emperors, Ministers of War, Censors-in-Chief, to modern times leaders of revolutionary organizations like the Huaxing Society, Prime Ministers of the Xijin Military and Political Branch, Secretaries to the President of the National Government, Presidents of the Bank of China, and even contemporary academicians of the two academies, university presidents, and secretaries to national leaders. It is truly a place renowned for its talent, making it a famous 'talent' place in Wuxi. The Xiaolou Lane architectural complex was first built in the Song Dynasty and flourished in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The existing buildings include Fushou Hall, Tan Family Ancestral Hall, Yiyuan Garden, and Laihe Tower, which bear witness to the rise and fall of prominent families like the Tan, Qin, and Sun families in Jiangnan, as well as the development of Wuxi City. They also bear witness to the development of Chinese society, possessing significant cultural relic value, research value, and utilization value.
