Historical background and cultural value The Gulangyu Piano Museum was completed in January 2000 and was built with funds donated by Hu Youyi and his wife. After learning that the Gulangyu District government regards the development and construction of music culture as a major measure for urban construction and tourism development, Hu Youyi and his wife especially agreed with this initiative, so they decided to send their collection of world-famous pianos back to the motherland and establish this piano museum.
