Maweiyi Folk Customs Exhibition Hall: South Bed and North Kang

The South Bed and North Kang Exhibition Hall of Maweiyi Folk Customs Square is located in the Folk Customs Square on the south side of the Visitor Reception Center of Maweiyi Folk Culture Experience Park. 👍Most recommended: The southern beds on display are wedding beds. There are Qiangong beds, two-step beds, and three-step beds. They are a kind of large bed widely used by wealthy families during the Ming and Qing dynasties. It usually appears as a dowry for a rich lady. There is a floor under the step-out bed with a door railing. Because the south is warm and there are many mosquitoes and flies, the bed frame is used to hang a mosquito net. As the name suggests, the "Thousand-Work Bed" requires a thousand man-hours to build. These beds have complex structures and exquisite craftsmanship, with emphasis on lacquer and inlay art. The surrounding panels are decorated with carvings and paintings of different themes, most of which are auspicious patterns and folk stories. Such a bed is not only a work of art and a luxury item, but also the crystallization of history, culture, art and hard work. ✅Must experience: The kang in the north is an earthen kang (fire kang), made of adobe or blue bricks, and is placed inside the cave, commonly known as "manjianpao (a kang with a distance between the top of the cave surface)". Quilts are neatly stacked on the kang, and a wardrobe is placed on it. The kang skirt is built around the kang with blue bricks, and the kang edge is thick. The walls inside the cave are all painted, and woodblock New Year pictures are posted on the walls. Old-fashioned handmade wooden cabinets, wooden chairs and other furniture are placed on the ground next to the kang edge. Because the weather in the north is cold, people usually sleep on a heated kang. The kang in cave dwellings is warm in winter and cool in summer, making it ideal for resting and relieving fatigue, and is a favorite of northerners.
