All Moments About Fort San Domingo
Taipei Movie “Secret That Cannot Be Told” Filming Location (Hong Mao-cheng, Jinli University, Xiaobai Palace)
1. Hongmao-cheng
You can get there in 5 minutes by taxi from Danshui Station or 10 minutes on foot. After buying a ticket, you can start from Hongmao-cheng and walk around to Xiaobai Palace. Hongmao-cheng has the most photo zones and is the prettiest.
3-5. Jinli University
I took pictures while pretending to go to Jinli University, and the fountain at Jinli University is so pretty. If you walk inside, you will see a playground. It is so pretty to take pictures on the grass there.
6. Xiaobai Palace
After passing Jinli University, there are Tamkang Middle School and High School, but since they are actually schools for students, they are not open on weekdays. So I passed the school and went straight to Xiaobai Palace. Xiaobai Palace has a really pretty white building and you can see the Tamshui River. This is the place where you can see Warren Matou! I thought this was the prettiest and most memorable.

A Place Where Nature and Architecture Harmonize: Fort San Domingo
📍 Harmony with Nature at Fort San Domingo
🏨 Unique Charm:
The red brick buildings of Fort San Domingo are charming on their own, but they create an even more beautiful landscape when harmonized with the lush greenery. The red bricks stand out more vividly against the changing seasons, creating a serene atmosphere. The trees and plants blend naturally with the buildings, giving the place a European garden-like feel.
📝 My Experience:
Despite it being winter, the nature at Fort San Domingo was still vibrant. The camellias blooming in winter matched perfectly with the red brick buildings, and the combination of green leaves and red flowers created a stunning scene. The strong yet natural combination of red and green evoked admiration every time I took a walk and snapped photos. This place is not just an architectural structure but a space that changes with nature over time, making it feel even more special.
A Place Where Various Architectural Styles Coexist: Fort San Domingo
📍 Fort San Domingo Building
🏨 Unique Charm:
The oldest building in Tamsui! Influenced by various countries, this place showcases a blend of architectural styles. Each building tells a story from the past, making it a fascinating place to explore. With architecture influenced by the Netherlands, Spain, and the UK, it is a place where Taiwan's history intertwines with Western influences, giving you the feeling of traveling back in time.
📝 My Experience:
If you love looking at buildings, Fort San Domingo is truly captivating! It was a unique experience to see European architectural styles in Taiwan. The bricks, windows, and small details reflect the architectural characteristics of each country, making it fun to compare and appreciate. Beyond its historical significance, it was a special place where you could enjoy a stroll in an exotic atmosphere.

Hongmaoqing, a true representation of Taiwan's modern history
Hong Mao Cheng
is not just a building, but an important heritage site that testifies to Taiwan's modern history.
It started as a fortress first built by the Dutch when they ruled the Tamsui region in 1629,
and has since undergone changes under the influence of various foreign powers, including Spain, the Qing Dynasty, and the United Kingdom.
✔ Dutch Era (1629) - First fortress built to control the Tamsui region
✔ Spanish Occupation (1642) - Drives out the Dutch and takes over the fortress
✔ Qing Dynasty Rule (after 1683) - Used as a military facility after expelling Western powers
✔ British Concession (1867-1972) - Used as the British Consulate and served as a center for international exchange
In this way, Hong Mao Cheng has become a space that symbolizes not only Tamsui but also Taiwan's international exchange and changes of the times.
It currently remains as a historical heritage site that preserves traces of Taiwan's modern history and colonial era,
and is loved by tourists as a meaningful place that connects Taiwan's past and present.

I really recommend Danshui Hongmao Cheng, which I visited with a film camera when I went to Taiwan, as a Taipei photo spot!
Especially when the weather is nice, the red building is more prominent,
and it looks good in photos. ㅎㅎ
It's also good for taking pictures inside, so if you go to Taiwan,
you should definitely visit Hongmao Cheng!
Hong Maoqing: Secret filming location that cannot be told
#Overseas travel
⭐️ Hongmaoqing is a must-visit for those who are going to Danshui!
⭐️ There is usually an admission fee, but on this day, it was free (I don't know why because I don't understand Chinese), so I was lucky enough to visit for free!
⭐️ The building itself was so pretty, and the garden in front of it matched so well, so this place has a whole exterior....
⭐️ There were things to see lightly inside, like a museum, but I think the main purpose of people coming here is the building and the atmosphereㅎㅎ
⭐️ It's really good for taking pictures, and there are many pretty photo spots, but be careful because there are a lot of people😵💫
⭐️ It's okay to stay inside the building even if it rains, so I recommend it!
