Because Lampang used to be the center of trade in the North, most of the trade areas were along the banks of the large river, Wang River. This led to communities that came to do business, such as the British, Burmese, and Chinese, who were the largest groups of traders, until it became a large Chinese community. In the past, horse carriages played a major role in Lampang. They were called taxis, taking passengers from the train station to the city of Lampang. They picked up parcels from the train station to deliver to the post office, were used as school buses, transported goods for vendors, and even took the sick to the hospital. Today, there are still horse carriages left to serve tourists. The horse carriage line is in front of the old city hall, with service from 06.00-16.00. In front of the Tip Chang Lampang Hotel, Wiang Lakor Hotel, and Lampang Wiang Thong Hotel, with service from 06.00-23.00. The province, through the Lampang Horse Carriage Association, has organized the horse carriage routes as follows: - The small city route, along the Wang River, starts at the old city hall. The carriage will turn left at the T-junction onto Tip Chang Road. On both sides of the road, there are old shophouses to visit before turning left at the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand intersection. You can see the Wang River flowing parallel to the road on the right, passing the five-way clock tower intersection, which is considered the center of the city. Tourists often take pictures with the horse carriages as souvenirs at this point. Then the horse carriage runs into Bun Wat Road, which is the heart of the business district.
