2025 Phuket Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in February)
As an island paradise, Phuket is surrounded by many amazing beaches, hidden gems, and beautiful temples. It will surprise and delight visitors with its lush hills, friendly people, and mouth-watering cuisine. With hundreds of hotels to select from, easy transport options, and countless dining and shopping venues, Phuket caters to every conceivable need.Phuket is Thailand's largest island, together with 32 smaller islands that make up the southern province of Phuket. Linked to the Thai mainland by the Sarasin Bridge, it is often referred to as the “Pearl of the Andaman Sea” and one of Southeast Asia’s top tourist destinations. Phuket City is the capital of the province and is situated in the southeast of the island. Out of a population of around 437,000 people, the vast majority of them live in and around Phuket City and Patong Beach.Named after the Malay word bukit, meaning hill, Phuket was an important trading port in the region and noted in history as a major source of tin. Through the centuries, it came under more foreign influences than other parts of Thailand. In the early twentieth century, the expansion of rubber plantations resulted in the clearing of large areas of the island. Then in the 1970s, a burgeoning tourist industry started with the first beach bungalows at Patong beach. Today, almost 10 million visitors come to Phuket each year.Getting to the island couldn’t be easier as there are many domestic and international flights arriving at Phuket International Airport daily. Visitors can transfer to their final destination by metered taxis or limousine taxis, minivans, airport buses, as well as private hotel transfer and rental cars. Getting around town is also simple and convenient. In addition to reasonably priced taxis, visitors have to option to use authentic local transports like the tuk-tuks, songthaews and motorbike taxis. If you are visiting Phuket for the first time, you will soon discover that this island is much more than just about sun, sea, and sand. Explore the colorful lanes and shophouses of old town Phuket, soak up the atmosphere, and indulge in authentic Thai flavors. Be awe-struck by elegant temples like Wat Chalong and Wat Phra Thong. Immerse yourself in the unique local culture and way of life in the Muslim fishing village of Koh Panyee. And last but not least, take the adventure to the go-kart speedway, soccer crazy golf, or Thai box stadium.

Phuket Trip for College Students
Phuket trip was an amazing experience that truly ignited the adventurous spirit of college students! With beautiful beaches, exotic streets, and delicious Thai cuisine, every corner was filled with charm. The sunset at Patong Beach was especially breathtaking, allowing us to fully enjoy the resort atmosphere. Additionally, shopping at local markets while interacting with the locals was a memorable experience. The food, including Gapao rice, Pad Thai, tropical fruits, pizza, and pasta, was exquisite and offered great value for money. This trip was a significant achievement as we managed to enjoy it fully while being mindful of our budget. Phuket is a place packed with both resort and local attractions, making it a destination worth visiting again!
VISITING WAT KHAO RANG.
Wat Khao Rang, also known as Sumnak Song Khao Rang or Wat Khao Rang Samakkhitham, is a temple on the slope of the popular Khao Rang (Rang Hill) in Phuket. This is where you can discover a large golden sitting Buddha, which was the first of its kind on the island.
BEAUTIFUL SURIN BEACH.
This is one of my favourite beaches and also one of the best beaches in Phuket, clean beach with clear water during dry and semi wet seasons. There’s no dirty river or sewer flowing into the sea.
Many sun loungers for rent, bargain for ฿100 per person for half a day use. Many street vendors selling food, cocktails and beer.
Public toilet is under renovation as of Nov 2024.
Can be busy but able to find a spot to relax especially under the trees.
The waves are milder in the morning and in the evening just before sunset. Stronger waves in the afternoon.
MESMERISING WHITE SAND BEACH IN PHUKET ISLAND.
Freedom Beach in Phuket is a 300-meter-long strip of white sand near Patong. The beach is set in a superb bay dotted with granite rocks and surrounded by hills.
LAID BACK BEACH IN PHUKET ISLAND.
Banana Beach – laid-back beach with a somewhat remote location in northwest Phuket. Visitors must walk down a steep hill to reach the beach. The road behind the beach is about 70 meters (77 yd.) away. There is a beach bar that is sometimes closed during the day, and when it is open some people complain that the prices are high. A huge positive is that very few people are usually here at this beach – it’s never crowded. Some people call this the most beautiful beach on the island of Phuket.
AMAZING VIEW FROM KARON VIEWPOINT.
Karon Viewpoint is one of the most frequented viewpoints in Phuket. Located between Nai Harn and Kata Noi beaches, it's busy most days of the year and a popular stop in many tour itineraries. From here, You can take in views of Kata Noi, Kata Yai and Karon beaches.
SCENIC PROMTHEP CAVE.
Promthep Cape (or Laem Promthep - แหลมพรหมเทพ) is the name of the rocky headland than juts out into the sea at the far south west of Phuket.
It's Phuket most southerly and southwesterly point, and many tourists and locals come here for views and to enjoy the sunset.
There's lots of parking and a big open space on top of the hill with a shrine and a lighthouse. We've been many times before, it's a good stop off if you are touring the south of Phuket - you can visit Rawai beach or Naiharn beach, maybe the 3 Beaches Viewpoint, and Cape Promthep, it's all pretty close together and it's a very scenic part of Phuket with (as yet) little major tourist development.
This is the "classic" view of Promthep Cape:

WAT CHALONG IN PHUKET ISLAND.
Wat Chalong, or Chalong Temple, built at the beginning on 19th century, Its real name is Wat Chaiyathararam, but you probably won't see it on any road signs. Wat Chalong ( Chalong Temple ) is the largest of Phuket's temples, and the most visited.
Locals and many Thai tourists come to pray and pay respects to several revered monks who were the founders of Wat Chalong, Among them Luang Pho Cham and Luang Pho Chuang, 2 monks, who led the citizens of Chalong Sub district fighting against the Chinese rebellion in 1876 and with their knowledge of herbal medicine helped the injured.
The most recent building on the grounds of Wat Chalong is a 60 meters tall 'Chedi' sheltering a splinter of bone from Buddha. Walls and ceilings are decorated with beautiful painting illustrating the life of Buddha, as well as many donated golden statues. Wat Chalong Chedi is built on three floors so feel free to climb all the way to the top floor terrace to get a nice bird view on the entire temple grounds. Few more steps will lead you to a glass display where the fragment of bone can be contemplated.

I found such a great hotel!
📍Phuket Marriott Resort and Spa, Nai Yang Beach
The hotel is very close to the airport, just a ten-minute drive away. I was just looking for a hotel to stay at after arriving at the airport, but this hotel exceeded my expectations!
First of all, the hotel is very new. From the lobby to the guest rooms and public areas, the decor is Thai-style, but the facilities are modern, making for a very comfortable stay. The public areas are very beautiful and aesthetically pleasing! There are Chinese-speaking staff, so communication is easy.
Most of the guest rooms on the first floor are connected to the pool. The room I stayed in had its own small garden, with a bed with curtains in the garden, which was very romantic! My garden was also connected to the pool, so I could swim all the way to the main pool outside.
🍽Dining
There aren't many places to eat around the hotel, so I had all my meals at the hotel. I recommend [BigFish], which specializes in seafood. The steak is also good, and the lobster and oysters are amazing. The open kitchen is very beautiful.
Another restaurant, Mama's Kitchen, is on the beach. It's an outdoor restaurant, so it's best to go when the weather is cool or in the evening. It specializes in Thai food, which is on the sweet side. Happy Hour offers free cocktails and performances, and the atmosphere is great.
You can also book a cooking class, where you can eat what you make, so you can have lunch and get a "graduation certificate."
💆The hotel has a [Quan Spa], which is very upscale and has good techniques. A one-hour essential oil spa costs over 500 RMB, which is a good value.
🌟Finally, let's talk about the downside: I saw a lot of people saying that the location is too remote. But if you're like me and just want to relax at the hotel and beach, this hotel is perfect. It's quiet and you can go to the beach, which kids will love. The hotel offers a free shuttle to Nai Yang Old Town, which is very lively and much cheaper than the popular beaches.
