Located in the heart of Edmonton, the capital of Alberta, Canada, the Alberta Legislative Building is one of the province's important political and historical landmarks. This magnificent building was designed in the style of the Paris Beaux-Arts school, incorporating gorgeous elements of neoclassicism. It is in the shape of a "U", consisting of a central hall and two wings. The original site of the building was the Edmonton Fort. The facade is built with gray granite and white raff stone, and the interior is decorated with exquisite murals, sculptures, and mahogany-carved provincial shields. The fountain in the central hall was built to commemorate the first visit of the Queen of Canada and Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, and is surrounded by flags symbolizing the history of the Alberta Regiment. Five palm trees donated by the California State Assembly in 1932 are also planted on the top of the dome, which has become a unique landscape. Today, the Parliament Building is open to the public free of charge and provides guided tours. Visitors can climb to the top to overlook the North Saskatchewan River Valley and experience the political and cultural heritage of Alberta.
