There's also Huazhou's most grand festival: Huazhou New Year, a unique folk feast. Huazhou New Year, also known as "Spring Festival," is a banquet prepared by the same clan in the village to worship and entertain relatives and friends. After the Lunar New Year, every family will celebrate the "New Year," which is the most important and grand event of the year for the people of Huazhou. It is said that Lady Xian rewarded the soldiers in the barracks, slaughtered cattle, and celebrated the spring, which later evolved into the New Year. Before the New Year begins, every household will prepare chicken, pork, fish, and other dishes to make a "three animals" offering for the Bodhisattva, called "Bai Zhong" or "Bai Zao." Usually, on the night of the New Year, every household gathers in one place to worship the gods, followed by a big firecracker display. On the morning of the New Year, there will be activities such as the Bodhisattva's tour, "Lantern Festival," dragon and lion dances, and more. In the afternoon, the host invites friends and family to come and enjoy a lively feast. In the evening, there will be many other programs, such as puppet shows, lion dances, Cantonese opera, ghost shows, fireworks, and more. In addition, there will be a lion dance troupe to add to the excitement, and the young people in the village will also go to learn the lion dance and perform at every household on the day of the New Year. The New Year is not only a traditional festival that people must celebrate, but also a time for every wanderer to return home and enjoy the joy of reunion with family and friends.
