This waterfall is about 260 kilometers away from Reykjavik and admission is free. This time I came here as part of a local one-day tour. It's about a five-minute walk from the tour bus stop. Here you feel peaceful and at ease. A truly unique canyon that is easily accessible to the viewpoint. The initial climb is a bit steep but not difficult. Once you reach the top, the path becomes flat until you reach the distant viewing platform. When we visited in winter, the roads were icy, so we recommend wearing crampons. You should plan to stay here for about an hour, and it is absolutely worth it because the canyon views are breathtaking.

You have to leave Highway 1 to reach this remarkable Feather± Canyon, although it’s not far away. The walk through the canyon is perfectly signposted with fences and various viewpoints along the way. While it may not be suitable for people with limited physical abilities, it is not overly challenging either. Although the hike is not particularly long, it does involve some uphill sections. Nonetheless, it was undoubtedly worth it! The walk takes about 45 minutes (round trip), but it also depends on how long you spend at each attraction. There is a viewing platform on the trail next to it (about 45 minutes walk). Looking out from the viewing platform, you can feel the depth of the canyon. The water flows gently through the winding cracks, which is very beautiful. Alternatively, you can wade through the valley floor and feel the towering steepness of the canyon walls. I came to Fjaðrálgljúfur Gorge in Iceland. It is a valley along National Route 1, and you can get there by rental car, but the road becomes unpaved halfway through. There is no entrance fee, but parking costs about 1,000 yen per car. The view from the observation deck is nice, but be careful as the wind is very strong. #OctoberGoodDestinations2024 The Feather River Canyon in southern Iceland was formed during the Ice Age 9,000 years ago and is known as the "most beautiful canyon in the world." Although we don't know who made the claim, Fjaðrárgljúfur is a beautiful attraction between the Black Sand Beach Reserve and Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. They have juices, oat milk, almond milk, coffee, tea etc. If staying at hotel Laki, because of its remote location, on good clear nights with strong aurora activity, one can go to Laki hotel roof to have a good look at the northern lights.

However the budget is on the higher side and hence we decided to stay at Efri Vik Bungalows on Laki hotel compound. These bungalows were built before laki and they were kinda antique. They were still lovely and the stay comes with free breakfast in laki hotel. However the down side is that wifi is weak here.

Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon is located 📍 west of Kirkjubæjarklaustur village. You can rent a car in Reykjavik, take Route 1 in the south, and turn onto Route 206 towards Lakagígar. A short drive on a gravel road will lead you to the 🏔canyon.
