HTMS Chakri Naruebet was granted the name by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Rama IX. Chakri Naruebet means the great one in the Chakri Dynasty. It is a ship built at the Bazan shipyard in Rota, Spain in 1994. It has 11 floors in total, is 182 meters long and 30.5 meters wide. It is a ship with modern equipment and a long-range radar system. It performs important missions in times of war. It is used as a carrier for vertical takeoff and landing aircraft and helicopters. It serves as a flagship to control and command the fleet at sea. In times of war, it controls air defense operations, naval combat, and submarine suppression of those who invade the country. In normal times, the Chakri Naruebet will be a base of operations to protect the nation's interests at sea, help victims, and preserve the marine environment. It will be parked with the HTMS Similan.
