The first stop of the Hexi Corridor Dream: Tianshui Maijishan Grottoes
Who can forget the majestic atmosphere of "Dream of the Hexi Corridor", the theme song of the documentary "Hexi Corridor"? For this song, I started a 16-day trip to the Hexi Corridor~
First stop: Tianshui Maijishan Grottoes

Maijishan Grottoes in Tianshui
🌟It was first built in the Sixteen Kingdoms and Later Qin Dynasty. There are 10,632 statues from the Northern Wei, Western Wei, Northern Zhou, Sui, Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties.
🌟It is known as one of the four major grottoes in my country, along with Mogao Grottoes, Yungang Grottoes and Longmen Grottoes.
🌟Known as the "Oriental Sculpture Exhibition Hall"

🚌Transportation strategy (key points)
Address: Maiji Mountain Scenic Area, Maiji Town, Maiji District, Tianshui City, Gansu Province
High-speed rail route: 🚄 Take the high-speed rail to Tianshui South Station, follow the instructions to the underground bus station on the first floor, and take bus No. 60 to the terminal "Maiji Mountain Scenic Area"
Train route: Take the train to Tianshui Station, then take bus No. 34 at the square to the final stop, Maiji Mountain Scenic Area.
❗️❗️❗️Don't get off at the "Tourist Center Station", otherwise you will spend an extra 15 yuan 💰 and take the bus to the ticket gate~
Taxi & self-driving location: Maiji Mountain Scenic Area; when taking a taxi, be sure to tell the driver to go to the "Old Visitor Center"; self-driving sales pitch: "Go up the mountain to eat at the farmhouse"
Transportation within the scenic area: After arriving at the bus terminal, walk up the slope to the ticket gate. After ticket inspection, it is recommended to buy a 15 yuan electric car ticket (the electric car from the ticket gate to the grottoes takes half an hour to walk 3 kilometers, which is a waste of time). After getting off the electric car, you still need to walk for 15 minutes through the commercial street to reach the real entrance of the grottoes for a second ticket inspection.

Things to visit:
🌟There are two routes in the peak season: Line 1 and Line 2. If you are physically fit, choose Line 1, and if you are afraid of heights, choose Line 2. In the off-season, there is only one classic route, which is more cost-effective.
🌟The general caves and special caves are mixed together. Maiji Mountain is not completely closed like Mogao Grottoes. Some special caves can be seen by standing on tiptoe. Remember the special cave numbers (133, 121, 44, 123, 135, 127, 78, 43, 62, 142, 74, 76, 78, 102, 115, 155). You will make a fortune if you take a look at them when you see them~

Special cave recommendations & explanations
Cave 133 is generally recognized as the first choice, "Shakya Huizi", "Little Monk Smiling"; Cave 121 "Whispering"; Cave 43 "Yi Fushi" (; Cave 123 "Boys and Girls"
💡Buy a special cave with a general cave explanation, the general cave explanation is 160r/10 people, so if you need a general cave explanation, you will make a profit by buying a special cave~

⚠️Photography tips
1️⃣Almost all the shrines are covered with dense iron 🕸️, so you need to get close and squint to see. People with myopia 👓 are advised to wear contact lenses;
2️⃣Use your mobile phone to take a photo. Aim the camera at the iron 🕸️ opening, then zoom in and take a photo.
3️⃣You can take photos in all open caves, but not in special caves.

Suggested play time:
Enter the scenic area at 3 pm and try to reach the "Sanhua Tower" at 4 pm. The sunset at this time is very beautiful when it hits the Buddha statue.
