Mae Pradu Shrine 本頭媽宮 – Check-in at Yaowarat for spiritual people. Beautiful and famous in every aspect!
Hey~ If we talk about Yaowarat, besides being a heaven for foodies, it also has “some energy” that spiritual people like us must not miss. Especially at “Mae Pradu Shrine” or the full name that is beautiful and expensive, 本頭媽宮 (Ben Tou Ma Gong). It is an extremely old shrine of the Goddess of Mercy, almost 200 years old! It is located in the old market area of Soi Yaowapanich. When you walk past it, you have to turn around because it has a sacredness, a greatness, and a Chinese-ness that will give you goosebumps (in a good way!).
A secret location that is not secret…but you might walk past it and not know!
First, let me tell you the way so you don't get lost. It's only a 5-minute walk from MRT Wat Mangkon. Get off the subway and walk into Soi Yaowapanich (near White Orchid Hotel). Walk straight in and you will see a small entrance arch with red lights flashing in the style of a classic Chinese temple. Go in and you will soon reach our Pradu Shrine!

Stories...Rumors...and Top-notch sacredness!
Pradoo Shrine is popular for asking for blessings for love, children, careers, and luck. In particular, it is believed that love and children are very sacred.
They say that in the past, people saw the statue of the goddess floating in the water. Then the villagers brought it to be enshrined in this old rosewood shrine. Some people prayed for love and got married quickly, prayed for having children and their work and money kept going strong. This is the beginning of the sacredness that made women who believe in superstition all over Bangkok flock to pay homage continuously.
Mother recommends the correct way to pray.
For those who want to pray, Mother recommends that you prepare the offerings.
45 incense sticks (yes! You heard me right, 45 sticks!)
1 pair of red candles
5 types of sweet fruits, especially bananas, you must have them!
When you enter, you will see the Goddess of Mercy as the presiding deity, surrounded by the Goddess of Mercy, the God of Mercy, and many other Chinese sacred objects. The atmosphere inside the shrine is purely Chinese but looks magical in a vintage way, clean and orderly, making you feel peaceful and has great energy.
There are also photo spots, but you have to respect the place.
Even though it is a sacred place, I must say that photography enthusiasts will scream because this shrine is beautiful in the details of the Chinese red and gold patterns. Just standing still can make you get a beautiful photo. But! You have to take photos politely. Don't disturb others who come to worship.
Impressions
Let me tell you that this shrine is not big or magnificent, but it is full of positive energy. The people who come to worship seem sincere and do it honestly and without being too commercial like some places. And the smell of incense that lingers makes you feel like you have been transported to an ancient Chinese temple. If you come with a female friend, it's great! After worshiping, invite each other to eat noodles and roast duck at a delicious restaurant nearby. Yaowarat is like this, food all around!
