Khwan-Riam Floating Market
Kwan-Riam Floating Market is a floating market located on the Saen Saep Canal, near Wat Bamphen Nuea and Wat Bang Pheng Tai. Kwan-Riam Floating Market is operated by the Krob Krua Khon Transport Company, a business group that has been granted a concession to operate passenger boats on the Saen Saep Canal. Chaowalit Methayaprabhas is the owner of the company and also the founder of Kwan-Riam Floating Market. The project started when a government agency contacted Chaowalit to consult about creating a riverside tourist attraction on the Saen Saep Canal. Chaowalit proposed a design concept, using the idea of a floating market from the novel Plae Kao by Mai Mueang Derm, because the characters in the story are Ai Kwan and E Riam, who live in the Bang Kapi field area, as a selling point for creating a floating market. Kwan-Riam Floating Market is a floating market on the Saen Saep Canal between two temples: Wat Bamphen Nuea and Wat Bang Pheng Tai. It opens on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. In the morning at 7:30 a.m., there is an alms-giving ceremony by boat[4] where monks and novices row boats to receive alms from relatives and laypeople who come to offer food to the monks. Between the two temples, there are two bridges connecting them, one of which is a bridge in the shape of a boat frame[5]. Originally, there was a bridge connecting Wat Bamphen Nuea and Wat Bangpeng Tai.
In the floating market area, there is also a statue of Khwan-Riam riding a buffalo placed next to the Banyan Tree Shrine[7]. The Khwan-Riam Shrine is on the side of Wat Bangpeng Tai, along the Saen Saep Canal. The front of the shrine faces the canal. There is also a section showing domestic animals, such as miniature horses and rabbits.
By car, you can get there from Seri Thai Road (Wat Bamphen Nuea), with bus lines 27 and 502. Another route is from Ramkhamhaeng Road (Wat Bangpeng Tai), with bus lines 113 and 58, 113 and 514.
Location: Located on the Saen Saep Canal, near Wat Bamphen Nuea and Wat Bangpeng Tai. You can get there by car from Soi Seri Thai 60 and Soi Ramkhamhaeng 187.
