#Bangkok Transportation Guide
The Gold Line (Thai: สายสีทอง, S̄āy s̄īthxng) is an automated people mover (APM) shuttle line of the Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTS). It was opened on December 16, 2020 by Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha. This short line, marked by a golden logo, is 1.8 kilometers long and has three stations, connecting Krung Thon Buri Station (G1) to Khlong San Station (G3) on the BTS Silom Line, mainly serving the Iconsiam shopping mall and surrounding areas on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River.
Highlights of attractions along the line Krung Thon Buri Station (G1): Krung Thon Buri Station, the connecting hub of the Silom Line, is the starting point of the Gold Line. It seamlessly transfers with the BTS Silom Line, making it convenient for passengers to travel to the city center such as Siam or Sala Daeng. There are small cafes and Thai restaurants on Charoen Nakhon Road around the station, serving Tom Yum Goong and mango sticky rice. The Chao Phraya River is within walking distance, and the free ferry along the river goes directly to Iconsiam, adding convenience to the journey.
Charoen Nakhon Station (G2): Iconsiam’s luxurious gateway Charoen Nakhon Station is directly connected to Iconsiam Shopping Centre, a landmark mall that features international boutiques, Thai Takashimaya and riverside restaurants, offering mouth-watering Thai seafood and desserts. The Iconsiam Pier next to the station offers Chao Phraya River cruises. The riverside lights and the distant view of the Grand Palace at night are romantic and charming, suitable for shopping and leisure travelers.
Khlong San Station (G3): Traditional Market and Riverside Scenery Khlong San Station is located in the Khlong San district on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River. It is about a 500-meter walk to the 170-year-old Chinese temple Lhong 1919, which showcases the fusion of Thai and Chinese culture. The Khlong San market next to the station sells fresh seafood and Thai snacks, and the barbecue and coconut ice cream at the night market are full of common people's atmosphere. You can take a ferry to Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn) from the nearby pier to add cultural exploration.
The Golden Line is not only Bangkok’s mini transportation line, but also a golden link connecting commerce and culture on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River. From the convenient transfers at Krung Thon Buri, the luxurious shopping at Charoen Nakhon, to the traditional markets and ancient riverside charm at Khlong San, this route condenses the modern and nostalgic charm of Bangkok.
