The miracle of the relics that occurred naturally
Atmosphere/Location - Tham Muang On is located in Mae On District, Chiang Mai Province, not far from San Kamphaeng Hot Springs. It is a large cave that is a cavity under a limestone mountain. Inside Tham Muang On, there are naturally occurring stalactites and stalagmites, and “Phra That Nom Pha”, a stalagmite containing the hair of the Lord Buddha. It is considered a very strange and beautiful chedi because it is natural and not man-made.
Highlights - To visit Tham Muang On, from the parking lot, you have to walk up 187 Naga steps to the mouth of the cave before walking down into the cave. The path is quite steep and narrow, even though there are stairs. In some parts, you have to squeeze through the rock walls inside the cave. When visiting, be careful. There are lights along the way. It takes about half an hour to an hour to walk around.
Other interesting points in the Muang On Cave area besides Phra That Nom Pha include Phra Stupa Khru Ba Sriwichai located at the mouth of the cave, Rishi Cave, stalactites and stalagmites in various shapes such as Dinosaurs, Stone Cats, Lion Heads, Nam Pha Drops, Rishi's Chamber Pots, Stone Turtles, Naga Heads, Thousand-Layer Lotus, Many-Laeng Sand, Million-Year-Old Teak Trees, various Buddha statues inside the cave, Mysterious Lord, Phra Khrue Chaiyasana, and Buddha Sitting on a Lotus. In addition, from the mouth of the cave, you can walk up more than 700 steps to pay homage to Luang Pho Than Jai and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
