Wat Bo Kaew, Nan Province
Wat Bo Kaew, Nan Province
🙏🪷This temple is built in the Lanna style. It stands out with its white ordination hall, beautifully decorated with stucco carvings and colored glass. At the entrance, there are white pillars on both sides. At the end of the pillar is a swan statue with a lamp. Near the ordination hall is the Phra That Bo Kaew. This chedi is a sacred object of Na Muen District.
🧙🏜️According to legend, a man dropped a magic crystal ball into a well. After that, the crystal ball performed a miracle. A bright crystal ball floated out of the well every night on Buddhist holy days and returned to its original place. The monks and villagers were so devoted that they built a pagoda to cover the well. Later, a senior monk brought the relics of the Lord Buddha to enshrine them, so the villagers called it Phra That Bo Kaew.
🔮🙏 Phra Chao Kaew, a clear glass Buddha statue, standing and holding an alms bowl, about 1 cubit high. Legend has it that over a hundred years ago, there were grandparents who farmed at Mon Khao Kaew. One day, while we were cutting grass, they accidentally hit the top of the Buddha's head that was buried in the ground. So they dug it up and washed off the mud that covered it. It turned out to be a beautiful, clear glass Buddha statue. They brought it to be enshrined at Wat Bo Kaew.
⚡️🌧️ After that, Phra Chao Kaew traveled to different places. Each time, the villagers saw him and told stories. The village's kind-hearted old man built a pavilion to offer him as a place to sit. From then on, Phra Chao Kaew never went anywhere again. One of the rulers of Nan learned of the sacredness of the story and sent a procession of elephants, horses, and soldiers to invite Phra Chao Kaew. But when the procession reached "Pae Kai Thuen", there was a heavy thunderstorm, which was a disaster. The procession could not continue on. It had to be invited back to Wat Bo Kaew as before.
