Ban Puen Palace, following the footsteps of the movie 303: Fear/Courage/Revenge
Ban Puen Palace, following the filming location of the movie 303 Fear/Courage/Revenge
- Ban Puen Palace or Ban Puen Palace, King Chulalongkorn, Rama V, ordered its construction as a European-style palace, one of the most beautiful palaces in Thailand, built between 1910 and 1916.
Located in the area of the Ram Ratchaniwet Camp, Ban Puen Subdistrict, along the Phetchaburi River, Phetchaburi Province, designed by Karl Döhring, a German architect. You will see the beautiful palace design and shady atmosphere.
It is built in a modern European architectural style. The palace is built on two floors with a fountain in the middle of the palace. The exterior looks magnificent and beautiful.
When I went, there was a renovation and repair of the new roof.
- For the first floor of the interior, you will find the waiting room before the officer introduces you. There will also be a central throne room, a dining room, an engine room, and a room for storing equipment. Most of the ground floor is made of marble, making the floor cool and comfortable.
The upper floor consists of the main bedroom, the queen's bedroom, the prince's bedroom, and the writing room or work room. Most of the floors are made of wood, so there will be some noise when walking.
Ban Puen Palace is considered an important tourist attraction in Phetchaburi Province. It's a pity that you can't take pictures inside the palace (it's prohibited).
- Traveling from Bangkok, take Rama 2 Road, the southern route, through Samut Sakhon, Samut Songkhram, and Ratchaburi (just a short distance), then take Highway No. 4 into Phetchaburi town, Ram Ratchaniwet Camp. Before entering, you have to exchange your card first, and there will be an officer to tell you the route and parking. The distance is about 130-140 kilometers.
- Personally, I went here because I wanted to follow the footsteps of the movie 303: Fear/Courage/Revenge, a movie released in 1998, which I watched when I was a child (11 years old, showing my age, haha). Overall, I really like this place, it's beautiful and peaceful. After 100 years, everything is still there. I highly recommend it.
