#cherryblossom25 Suwa Taisha is one of the oldest and most important Shinto shrines, and seeing it during cherry blossom season feels like stepping into an ancient, sacred dream. The towering cedar trees around the shrine blend beautifully with the delicate pink sakura blooms that dot the grounds. When I visited, the shrine was hosting a spring ceremony, and the priests in traditional robes moving under the fluttering blossoms was pure magic. The old wooden architecture has a weathered beauty that makes the soft pink petals pop even more. It’s peaceful, reverent, and very “off the tourist track” compared to bigger shrines. It felt like finding a hidden moment in history — perfect for travelers who love culture and quiet beauty.

A chocolate bread for adults that is packed with chocolate! Fig and walnut ¥330 White figs and walnuts are put into a salty dough that contains 10% whole wheat flour. Yashima Marsh is heart-shaped, and there is a promenade, so it takes about 90 minutes to walk there at a leisurely pace. You can enjoy a pleasant stroll while breathing in the highland air. The Suwa Taisha Shimosha Harumiya Gemabashi Bridge, said to have been built in the Muromachi period, is the oldest building in the Shimosha, having been renovated in the 1730s. The name Gemabashi comes from the fact that in the past, when worshipping at Harumiya, people had to dismount and get off their horses here, and even feudal lords had to get off their palanquins or horses. Because of its shape, it is also called Taikobashi Bridge locally. Even today, only the portable shrines in the procession for the twice-yearly enshrinement festival can cross this bridge. Manji Stone Buddha in Suwa City, Nagano Prefecture 𓂃◌𓈒𓐍 𓂃◌𓈒𓐍𓂃◌𓈒𓐍𓂃 A 3-minute walk from Suwa Taisha Shimosha Harumiya. Cross the red bridge over the Togawa River and go further, you will see an unbalanced stone Buddha with a small head and a large body. In 1657, a stone carpenter put a chisel to this stone to donate a large torii gate to Suwa Taisha Shimosha Harumiya, but the wound started bleeding. He stopped working and then, after receiving a prophecy in a spiritual dream, he used another stone as the material and successfully dedicated it. It is said that the bleeding stone was carved and worshiped with Amida Buddha. That is the origin of this stone. If you look closely at Manji Stone Buddha, you will see that it is carved with inverted swastikas, the moon, and the sun, and the more you look at it, the more mysterious it becomes, not just in appearance. Suwa Taisha Shimosha Harumiya in Suwa City, Nagano Prefecture 𓂃◌𓈒𓐍 𓂃◌𓈒𓐍𓂃◌𓈒𓐍𓂃 Suwa Taisha has four shrines: Kamisha Honmiya and Maemiya, Shimosha Harumiya and Akimiya. The large granite torii gate at the entrance to the shrine grounds is estimated to have been built in 1659, making it the oldest stone structure at Suwa Taisha. It is also said to have been made by the same person who made the stone Buddha statues at Manji. The Kagura Hall is in front. It was built during the Tenpo era (1681-1684), and like the Akimiya, it has a large shimenawa rope. Behind it is the same haiden (offering offering hall).
