A night of prayers for business success and academic success - A complete guide to night photography at the Ganesha Temple in Bangkok
[Location]
Take the skywalk from BTS Chit Lom Station and walk for about 7-10 minutes, passing the former Isetan department store, Big C, and Gaysorn Village. The main entrance to Central World is at the end of the elevated walkway, and the illuminated Ganesha Shrine is located in the center of the square in front.
At night, the temple is bustling with stalls selling worship services, but the sidewalk has few steps and is barrier-free, making it easy to move around even with large luggage.
[History and Benefits]
Ganesha is an elephant-headed god in Hindu mythology who governs learning, the arts, and business prosperity. In Thailand, he is widely worshiped as a "power spot at night that grants wishes," and there is no end to the young people and business people who visit before entering university, finding a job, or starting a business.
The current shrine was rebuilt in the 1950s, and is lit up together with the exterior wall of Central World behind it, creating a futuristic night view that is typical of the city center.
[How to worship]
① Purchase 3 sticks of incense, 1 candle, and a wreath from the stall in front of the shrine (40-60 THB)
② Offer the incense, candle, and wreath in that order, then place your hands together in front and bow 3 times
③ Many people then quietly recite their wishes. If you have time, you can see worshippers praying in a clockwise direction 1-3 times, but this is not required.
④ Put the remaining incense into the ash urn and extinguish the candle before leaving.
[Night view and photo spot]
📍The standard angle is to capture the shrine from the front with the “centralwOrld” logo floating in the background.📍The white elephant, horse and gold leaf statues around it shine in the spotlight, and if you have a lens of F2.0 or more, you can take a great photo even if you hold it in your hand.📍From the Big C pedestrian bridge across the road, you can take a panoramic night view of the shrine and the line of cars on Ratchadamri Road.
[Combining with nearby spots]
To the north of the shrine is the Trimurti statue, famous for making love come true, and to the south is the Narayan flagship store at the former Isetan store, so it is popular to enjoy shopping and cafe hopping after worship.
On Fridays at 8pm, in front of the Trimurti statue, a “Red Rose of Love” worship is held, so if you have the time, we recommend visiting both shrines.
[Notes]
📍The food stalls close after 10pm, so you may not be able to buy the worship set. It's best to visit early📍Photography is OK, but tripods are prohibited. Use flash sparingly as it will disturb people praying
[Summary]
Ganesha Shrine is an urban sanctuary that can be accessed from the station without getting wet in the rain. It is a spot that is "concentrated with the essence of Bangkok" where you can make a wish to the golden Ganesha while shopping and enjoy taking photos of the night view.
If you have goals you want to achieve, whether it be in your studies, work, or love life, be sure to visit it once.
