Wat Phra N
Wat Phra Non Chaksi Worawihan is a third-class royal temple located in Chaksi Subdistrict, Mueang District, Singburi Province. There is no evidence of when it was built, but it is assumed that it was built before Ayutthaya became the capital. According to the chronicles, in 2297, King Borommakot of Ayutthaya came to pay homage and repair the Buddha image. He built a new chapel, an ordination hall, and other buildings. Later, during the Rattanakosin period, King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) came to pay homage and restore various sacred objects. Inside Wat Phra Non Chaksi Worawihan is a chapel, a place to enshrine the Phra Non Chaksi, a large reclining Buddha image, which is the third largest in Thailand, after Somdet Phra Sakyamuni Sri Sumedha Bophit of Wat Bang Phli Yai Klang. The Phra Non Chaksi is a Sukhothai Buddha image that is very graceful and beautiful. It is 47 meters and 42 centimeters long, with its face facing north. The head faces the east. With its large size and beauty, the reclining Buddha Chaksi is a spiritual anchor for locals in Singburi Province. They believe that if they come to ask for help from the Buddha and it comes true, they will come to make merit. Popular items to make merit include boiled eggs, pig heads, and Bai Sri.
In addition, inside the temple, there is the Phra Khan, a stone Buddha statue covered in gold lacquer, and the Phra Kaew, a molded Buddha statue sitting in a diamond meditation posture, built during the reign of King Rama V. Both statues have beautiful characteristics. In the past, they were used as the principal Buddha statues for the oath-taking ceremony for government officials. In front of the temple, there are many large Sri Lankan sal trees, important trees in full bloom. In front of the temple is also the location of the Singburi Provincial Buddha Monthon. Singburi Province, together with the Sangha of Singburi Province, jointly organized the construction of the provincial Buddha Monthon by developing public utilities to be the center of Buddhist ceremonies. For Buddhists interested in meditation, the temple also offers Dhamma and Vipassana training on the 4th-10th of every month, free of charge.
Inside the Reclining Buddha Temple. There is also a “Must-See Market”, a market where locals and people in the community bring their own products such as vegetables, fruits, chili paste, famous fermented fish products of the province, OTOP products, products of the community enterprise group, ready-made clothes, handbags and various items to sell at fair prices, accurate weights. It is open for sale every day with more than 140 stalls, generating income and careers for people in the community and nearby areas very well. In addition to paying homage to the Reclining Buddha Chaksi, visiting and buying souvenirs to take home in the market area will make you feel full of merit, body and heart at the same time. Therefore, we would like to invite everyone to come and visit the religious tourism at Wat Phra Non Chaksi.
