Chiang Rai, a secondary city worth visiting
### Chiang Rai: A Hidden Gem in Northern Thailand
Chiang Rai, Thailand’s northernmost city, is a city that perfectly combines natural beauty, diverse cultures, and a peaceful atmosphere. Living here for two years has given me the opportunity to explore almost every corner of this fascinating city. Join me on my journey to some of my favorite places in Chiang Rai.
#### **Wat Rong Khun**
Our first stop is Wat Rong Khun, also known as the White Temple, an extraordinary contemporary Buddhist temple built by renowned Thai artist Chalermchai Kositpipat. The striking white temple is adorned with intricate glass mosaics and carvings, representing the purity of the Buddha. As you walk across the bridge to the temple, you will be amazed by the intricate artwork that tells the story of reincarnation and the path to liberation. Inside the temple, modern murals are a mix of traditional and modern art, making this a place like no other.
#### **Singha Park**
Next, we head to Singha Park, a large agricultural park that combines nature and adventure. Covering an area of over 12 square kilometers, Singha Park features tea plantations, fruit orchards, and beautiful flower gardens. You can take a leisurely bike ride through the beautiful scenery. Enjoy a zipline adventure or simply relax at one of the many picnic spots. Don’t miss the chance to visit the park’s mini zoo where you can get up close and personal with the cute animals. There are also festivals and events throughout the year, making it a lively place for locals and tourists alike.
#### **Wat Huai Plakang**
Our last stop is Wat Huai Plakang, a temple home to a huge statue of the Goddess of Mercy. Standing at 69 meters tall, this statue is the largest statue of the Goddess of Mercy in Thailand. The temple also has a beautiful 9-storey pagoda and a large hall with beautiful murals and sculptures. The panoramic view from the top of the pagoda is breathtaking, offering a clear view of the surrounding landscape. The peaceful and calm atmosphere of Wat Huai Plakang makes it a great place to contemplate and meditate.

I have shared only a few of my favorites, but there is so much more to discover here. From bustling night markets to tranquil riverside parks, every corner of this city has a story to tell.
So pack your bags, set your compass north, and come experience the charms of Chiang Rai for yourself. I promise you will not be disappointed.
