🙏Wat Ratchaprathit or Wat Phakho is the temple of "Somdet Phakho" or "Luang Pho Thuat Yiap Nam Tale Chuet", a respected monk. It is the oldest temple in Songkhla Province. It was probably built around 500 B.E. by Phra Chin Sen. The Wisungkhamasima was buried in 840 B.E. Later, between 2091-2111 B.E., the relics from Sri Lanka were received. Therefore, the Sri Rattana Mahathat Chedi was built to enshrine the relics.
🛕 As well as the construction of various religious sites such as the Vihara, Chedi, Ubosot, Dharma Hall, and the reclining Buddha "Phra Phuttha Kotama". The villagers therefore named the temple after Phra Kotama. As time passed, Wat Phra Kotama was corrupted to Wat Phakho.
🛕Wat Phakho used to be the place where the water of oath-taking of the governor of Phatthalung was used in the past. During the time when Phatthalung was the center of the administration of the Songkhla Lake Basin community,
Within the temple grounds, there are also important things:
🛕 Phra Suwanna Malik Chedi Si Rattana Mahathat (Golden Chedi), an ancient chedi located on top of Phutthasing Hill, the main building of Wat Phakho. Inside the chedi is the relics of the Lord Buddha. It was built during the reign of King Ramathibodi II and has been continuously renovated. The chedi is made of brick and mortar, shaped like a bell, supported by a circumambulation platform, and is located on a large, three-tiered, square base. It has a unique local identity. Although it has been renovated many times, it has always maintained its original characteristics.
🛕 A small chedi is located behind the Phra Phuttha Saiyasana Shrine. It is an old chedi made of brick and mortar, shaped like a bell, with a twelve-sided base.
🙏 The reclining Buddha, named "Phra Kotama", is a golden Buddha statue in the reclining posture, made by local craftsmen.
🙏 The footprint of the Lord Buddha is located inside the pavilion. The villagers believe that it is the footprint of Somdet Phra Rajamuni Samiram Khunupamacharn or Luang Pho Thuad. 🙏The replica and monument of Somdet Phra Rajamuni Samiram are enshrined in the upper pavilion, next to the Buddha's footprint. 🏰The Wat Phakho Museum exhibits various antiques such as Buddha images, pottery, brassware, machetes, brass betel nut scythes, and ancient banknotes and coins. Ceramic pottery, etc. In addition, there are also objects related to Luang Pho Thuat, such as the eight requisites, robes, walking sticks, and the crystal ball of merit.
🏰 Wat Phakho was registered as an ancient site in 1985.
