Backpackers Paradise in Guilin
#backpackeressentials
Guilin has absolutely captivated me, and for any fellow backpackers eyeing this incredible destination, here are my top essentials after exploring the Li River Scenic Area, admiring the Sun and Moon Pagodas, and delving into the enchanting Reed Flute Cave!
First off, comfortable walking shoes are non-negotiable. You'll be doing plenty of strolling, from riverside paths to the vastness of the cave. Second, a portable power bank is your best friend. My phone was constantly out for photos and navigation, especially with the stunning views along the Li River cruise and the illuminated pagodas at night. Don't miss capturing those moments!
I also highly recommend a lightweight, quick-dry towel – super handy for unexpected rain showers or just to freshen up. And while the scenery is breathtaking, remember a small bottle of insect repellent, particularly for evenings or early mornings near the water. Lastly, a small daypack for water, snacks, and souvenirs from your adventures is crucial. Guilin truly is a backpacker's paradise; pack smart and get ready for an unforgettable experience!
Stepping into Shanke Chain Hotel after a long journey is always a little slice of heaven. That feeling of fresh sheets, a quiet room, and knowing everything is taken care of... pure bliss. Time to relax and recharge!

Reflections of Light: The Sun and Moon Pagodas of Guilin
#springitinerary
The Sun and Moon Twin Pagodas, also known as the Twin Pagodas of Guilin, are iconic Buddhist towers situated in the middle of Shan Lake in downtown Guilin and these two pagodas are a major attraction, especially at night when they are beautifully illuminated, reflecting off the water. The pagodas are connected by an underwater tunnel, allowing visitors to move between them without returning to shore.

Day trip in Guilin:
- Start by walking around the Guihua Museum. During the hot afternoon, we can escape the sun at the Guihua Museum. This museum may not have English subtitles, but there are still some English displays. Understanding it is not difficult. In addition, the layout of things in the museum allows you to take beautiful pictures.
- Then in the afternoon before sunset, try to climb a hill. At a not-too-distant height, we recommend Diecai Hill. From this hill, you can see the Elephant Track Hill and Guilin City from above. It is also not far from the city. You can take a taxi, walk, or ride a bicycle.
- Before the sun sets, try to visit the Twin Pagodas and the Elephant Trunk Hill. You will get 2 atmospheres before sunset and after the sun sets and the lights are on.
Just like that, you will have a beautiful day trip to Guilin.
