Chamdevi Temple
Wat Chamadevi, or as the locals call it, Wat Ku Kut, is located on Chamadevi Road, Tambon Nai Mueang, Amphoe Mueang, Lamphun Province. It is an important ancient temple since the Lanna Thai period, which is important both in terms of history and archaeology. According to the evidence found in the stone inscription, it is believed that the royal son of Queen Chamadevi, Phra Chedi Mahantayot, and King Anantayot ordered the construction of this temple for the royal cremation ceremony. He ordered the construction of a square pagoda with a gold-covered top called Suwanna Jangkoti. The Suwanna Jangkoti pagoda or Phra Chedi Chamadevi is a square pagoda in the style of Buddha Gaya in India. Each side has a standing Buddha image in the blessing posture on each level. There are 15 standing Buddha images in the blessing posture in the four niches on each side, totaling 60 images. Inside the pagoda, the ashes of Queen Chamadevi, the first ruler of Hariphunchai, are enshrined. Later, it is not clear when the top of the pagoda broke off, so the locals called it Ku Kut pagoda. This pagoda has an official name of Phra Chedi Suwanna Jangkoti. This pagoda is considered an important architectural style in the Hariphunchai art. In addition, there is an important ancient site, the octagonal pagoda. The architectural style is an octagonal plan with a decreasing number of layers. It can be divided into three parts: the base consists of two octagonal bases, followed by a lotus tier supporting the chedi. The lower part of the chedi is a base that is slightly lower than the wall level of the chedi. The chedi is a tall octagonal plan. Inside is a standing Buddha image. The niches are three curved circles. The ancient religious sites in Wat Chamdevi are highly revered by Buddhists. It is also an important historical and archaeological tourist attraction in Thailand. There is also a stupa containing the remains of Khru Ba Srivichai and his kuti, which he used to stay in during the temple's renovation. It is now the Khru Ba Srivichai Observation House for visitors. #BeautifulTemplesAroundThailand #Worship #SecretCoordinates #Khru Ba Srivichai #ThaiTemple #Lamphun #VisitLamphun
