🏡In the year 2200, Chao Phraya Mahayot Narathibodi Si Phichai Narong (Phraya Cheng), the ancestor of the Kachaseni family in the north, sent Phraya Chomphu, his son, and his maternal relatives from Chiang Saen to live in Khelang (Lampang). Phraya Chomphu and his relatives built a village together to commemorate the city of Chiang Rai that they had left, and to honor the family history, so they named the temple Wat Chiang Rai. After that, Wat Chiang Rai was renovated to preserve the valuable Lanna art that was combined with the art of the Central region.
🏕The temple is outstanding with a white chapel decorated with white stucco patterns, which is a Lanna art style mixed with Central region art. It is decorated with small pieces of glass that shine beautifully when light hits it. Inside the chapel is the principal Buddha image, covered with gold leaf, in the Mara-Vijaya or Mara-Victory posture. The Buddha image is in a sitting position with legs crossed. The left hand is placed on the lap, the right hand is placed on the knee, and the fingers point to the ground. Inside the temple, there are murals that tell the story of the life of the Buddha, which are newly written and are beautifully colored.
🏕 In front of the temple, there is a bell-shaped pagoda in the Lanna style, surrounded by golden pagodas of the 12 zodiac animals.
🏕 On the south side of the temple, there is a large white Buddha statue in the Mara-Vijaya attitude. It is a Buddha statue in the royal regalia, consisting of a crown, earrings, a necklace, a sash, gold bracelets and rings on every finger.
🏕 In addition, inside the temple, there is a museum, a place to learn about the culture and public service of the past abbots in each era who have developed and prospered the temple, as well as being a center of the minds of Buddhists. Devotees
