Monument of King Naresuan the Great
The monument of King Naresuan the Great is located at the Chaloem Phrakiat Park, Watthana Nakhon District, Suwannason Road, Watthana Nakhon Sub-district, Watthana Nakhon District, Sa Kaeo Province (opposite the Watthana Nakhon District Office). The monument of King Naresuan the Great is a unique “one and only one in Thailand”. It is a standing statue on a pedestal with a height of 2.80 meters. His right hand is raising a 1.20 meter long sword. The sword is raised above his head, demonstrating his power in governing and protecting his subjects. King Naresuan the Great was skilled in warfare to protect the kingdom since his time as Somdet Phra Maha Uparat. To protect the kingdom in the east, he led an army to suppress the enemy. Which frequently sneaked in to attack and round up people in the border area. In 2124, he led an army to suppress them for the first time. Later in 2125, he ordered the establishment of a moat camp and a rice granary at the Phra Thamnop Camp (behind the old Watthana Nakhon District Office) and led an army to suppress the enemy completely. As appears in the Royal Chronicles of Ayutthaya that in Chula Sakarat 845, Year of the Goat, Benchasok, Tuesday, waxing moon day 5, at dawn, 2:05 a.m., Somdet Phra Naresuan the Great rode Chao Phraya Chayanuphap as an elephant, Somdet Phra Ekathotsarot rode Chao Phraya Praptrai Chak into the gate. The royal monks sprinkled holy water, and Phraya Non cut down trees to intimidate the name by ocean. Somdet Phra Naresuan the Great was a great monarch in Thai history. He regained independence after the first fall of Ayutthaya and extended the power of the Kingdom of Thailand very widely. Until Thailand was peaceful and free from war for a long time. All of His Majesty's royal duties, big and small, were for the benefit of the country and all Thai people. Throughout his life, he was constantly on the battlefield and in the countryside without stopping. Even when he passed away, he passed away while marching to defeat the nation's enemies. It can be said that he sacrificed himself for the country completely. It is appropriate that later generations of Thais should be aware of His Majesty's great kindness and remember His heroic deeds in high esteem forever. He marched by land via Phra Charuk Pass (Phra Charuk), and stayed for a while until reaching Tambon Khai Thamnop.
