Wat Phra Mongkol Address:
Soi Rajsanti, Hat Yai, Thailand
Phra Phutthamongkhon Maharat
It is a large Buddha statue enshrined on Khao Kho Hong in Hat Yai, Songkhla. It is a tourist attraction and place of worship for Hat Yai people and tourists. The atmosphere on the mountain allows a 360-degree view of Hat Yai city. It is also the first place to take a cable car or gondola in Thailand. However, on the day I went, it was closed for renovations, so I couldn't take the gondola.

Khao Kho Hong, Hat Yai
This mountain is located in Hat Yai Public Park. You can drive up here, whether by motorbike or car. You can come here from early morning until late evening. Every morning, 4-5 am, if it doesn't rain, people will come to run and walk up the mountain to exercise. In the evening, it is the same. In the evening, there will be people sitting on the stairs, enjoying the atmosphere, fresh air, and watching the sunset. If we have free time, we will often go up here.
Here, you can also take a cable car up. On top, there is Phra Phuttha Mongkhon Maharat, the largest Buddha statue in the South. It is 19.90 meters in size. It is a Buddha statue in the blessing posture. It is enshrined on the top of Khao Kho Hong. You can come and worship the Buddha here. Further down, there is a shrine with Guan Yin enshrined there as well.

Let's go up the cable car at Hat Yai.🚡
Go up the cable car in Hat Yai. There is a good viewpoint. The ticket price is not expensive. Free for senior citizens. Many foreign tourists come to visit. Take the cable car with 6-8 people at a time. It is a bit hot on the cable car, but the atmosphere is good. The view from the top is very beautiful. When you cross to the other side, you will see the Brahma god, an elephant. There are people who make offerings. When you want to go back, you can line up to come back.

🍂 “Phra Phutta Mongkhon Maharat” is the largest Buddha statue in the southern region in the blessing posture. It stands tall on the top of Khao Kho Hong. It is the location with the most beautiful viewpoint in Hat Yai District. You can see the city, green areas, the sea, and the islands in order. After the rain in the morning, you will see the sea or mist floating above Hat Yai City.
🌳 The Buddha statue is 19.90 meters high and is beautifully cast from fine brass. Under the Buddha statue is a place to worship various Buddha images and wax figures of famous monks.
🚦 Normally, you can take the Cable Car from the lower area (public park), but now the cable car is closed for renovation. It is scheduled to reopen in December 2024. Therefore, during this time, you must use a car to go up Khao Kho Hong.

A colossal standing Golden Buddha in Hatyai
#weekendgetaways
Phra Phutthamongkol Maharat is renowned for its colossal standing Golden Buddha. Nestled in the very top of the hill, facing of the Kho Hong Moutain Viewpoint, Kho Hong, Hatyai District, Songkhla, Thailand. You can see the entire city of Hatyai and as far as the Songkhla lake in the city of Songkhla.
It has cable car service from Hatyai Municipal Park to the top, but unfortunately closed for maintaining quite some time. We were riding a Scooter from Hatyai downtown to the temple, 8.5km away taken around 25 minutes, I was so exciting and really love its tranquil atmosphere, fresh air and the scenic views, absolutely a best getaway from the bustling city!
The temple is open daily from 6.30am - 7pm.

Incredible temple complex with beautiful architecture.
20 meters tall golden Buddha statue overlooking the city and the fantastic views across Hat Yai.
30 minute hike to the top is pretty intense, bring quality shoes and plenty of water. The view at the top is certainly worth it.
If you have elderly with you, it's always recommend for you to chartered a tuk tuk to bring you around the park. You also can take cable car here to the Brahma statue, it's costing 200 baht for return ticket for tourist. The cable car is just very short distance.
