Sangkhathan Temple @ Nonthaburi
#Places to visit near Bangkok, Sangkhathan Temple, a temple near Bangkok, very convenient to travel, near Rama V Bridge, with a large parking lot, very big trees, peaceful, shady, the place is decorated neatly, beautiful and clean. The buildings, churches, temples, pavilions, and Dharma grounds are beautiful, able to accommodate many people who come to practice Dharma and make merit.
There are monks who practice well and have discipline to teach meditation every day at the Dharma ground.
Importantly, anyone who wants to ordain as a nekkhamma, keeping the eight precepts, can come and receive the precepts every day. If you are physically and mentally ready, please come. Monks' accommodations are sold separately. Women can rent white clothes from the temple. There are enough beds, pillows, mats, and bathrooms for you.
Pay homage to Luang Pho To, an ancient Buddha image in the Mara-Vijaya posture in the U Thong art style, and the relics of the Lord Buddha inside the octagonal glass chapel in the shape of a pagoda at Sangkhathan Temple, one of the beautiful temples in Nonthaburi.
Inside the temple, it is shady, quiet, and there is a Thai pavilion by the river, built entirely of golden teak. The carved pillars tell the story of the life of the Lord Buddha intricately. When you see it, you will be amazed by the skill of the carvers.
Inside the pavilion, there is a large sculpture of Luang Pho To standing tall on the ground floor. The second floor is where the remains of Luang Pho Sanong Katapunyo, the former abbot, are kept.
Wat Sangkhathan is an ancient temple. It is believed that it was originally called Wat Sarikho and was built in the late Ayutthaya period. After that, it was abandoned for hundreds of years.
