Spent a perfect 4 days in Guilin and Yangshuo viewing the incredible karst mountains, taking things slowly and relaxing in nature and beautiful scenery. There are so scenic spots along the Li and Yulong rivers. We preferred the less crowded spots. Recommend staying in Guilin for 1 night and Yangshuo for 2 or 3. You can take a bus for 5 yuan/person from the station and arrive at Xingping Ancient Town Bus Station in 20 minutes. ✨The whole tour of Xingping Town is along the two banks of the Lijiang River. The main attractions are Xingping Ancient Town and 20 yuan RMB on one side, and Xianggong Mountain Viewing Platform and Jia Tianxia Viewing Platform on the opposite bank. 🌈Check-in tips: 🌸Xingping Ancient Town The ancient town is not big, all are food selling and small commodity shops, 1 hour is enough for shopping. 🌸20 yuan RMB To be honest, it's not the same as it used to be on the RMB. The electric boats in the Lijiang River are too scenic and noisy, stirring up waves of water ripples. The parking fee for electric cars is 3-5 yuan. It is recommended to park on the roadside for 2 minutes and quickly check in and leave. 🌸Cycling along the Lijiang River Go straight ahead along the 20 yuan road, and the places where there are small roads down to the river on the right are worth seeing. It's much better than the 20 yuan place, and parking is free. You can also see the reflection of Huangbu on the opposite bank. 🌸Xianggong Mountain Xianggong Mountain is on the opposite bank. You need to take a boat across the river first. There are 3 piers in Xingping Ancient Town to cross the river: Xingping Pier, Ergendi Pier, and Mashan Pier. I suggest riding an electric donkey, enjoying the scenery of the Lijiang River along the way, and crossing the river at Mashan Pier, where there are the fewest people. The entrance fee for Xianggong Mountain is 60. The ticket office is halfway up the mountain, so you need to cross the river first and then take a sightseeing car to the entrance of the scenic spot. What's unreasonable is that there is no official ferry boat and shuttle bus in the scenic area. You can only take the local people's car to get to Mashan Pier. There are local people selling all-inclusive tickets for Xianggong Mountain (including 60 tickets + round-trip ferry + round-trip sightseeing car). The average price is reasonable at 80-100. Be careful not to buy it too expensive. After arriving at the entrance of the scenic spot, you still need to climb the stairs for half an hour to the top of the mountain viewing platform. Jiuma Painting Mountain It's right next to Mashan Pier. Xianggong Hill offers a different angle to see the beauty of the Li River. It is such an amazing place to see the sunrise, the view is just breathtaking! If you wish to take photos, the best time is early morning. It was beautiful sunrise on the Xianggong hill. Definitely the best sunrise I ever saw in my life! Needed to wake up at 3:30 a.m. and take a bus to the hill (bus takes around 40-50 minutes) and then clump the hill. It takes around 15 minutes to climb up to the hill, and when you are on the top you can see a beautiful river and countless mountains around. Xianggong Hill is on the west shore of the Li River, near Xingping ancient fishing town, about 28 km from Yangshuo and 60 km from downtown Guilin. The sunrise and colorful clouds attract many photography enthusiasts. p4- Elephant Trunk Hill: Named for its resemblance to an elephant drinking water by the river, the hill is composed of Paleozoic sedimentary limestone and is a karst landform. The east end of the hill has a large cave formed by karst processes, known as the Water Moon Cave. The cave is 12 meters high, 9.5 meters wide, and 17 meters long. The most beautiful section of the Li River, which is known for its stunning scenery, is located in Xingping Town, Yangshuo County. The river is wide and the water flows slowly here, with strange peaks and green bamboo on both sides. On February 1, 2025, we chose to stay in Xingping Ancient Town. Although the town is small, it is full of historical charm. We strolled around and tasted local delicacies. Early the next morning, due to the narrow roads and heavy traffic, we walked several hundred meters from our accommodation to visit the site depicted on the back of the 20 RMB note (Photo 12). Afterwards, we took an electric tricycle (CNY 20 one way, for up to 4 passengers) to the "Nine Horses Fresco Hill" pier, and took a ferry (CNY 5 per person, one way) to the opposite bank to admire the "Nine Horses Fresco Hill" (Photo 3, we faced the cliff and tried to count the horses, but couldn't find all nine). At the "Nine Horses Fresco Hill" scenic spot, we rented a "wild taxi" operated by a local villager (CNY 120 round trip) to go to "Xiangong Hill" 9 km away. We climbed the hill (CNY 60 per person, CNY 30 per person for those aged 60–65, free for those aged 65 and over) and overlooked the most beautiful section of the Li River (Photo 1). On the way back, we visited the site depicted in the "Guilin's Scenery is the Best in the World" painting (Photo 4). On that day, the temperature in Xingping Town was only 10°C, and there was light rain, but we were so intoxicated by the beautiful scenery of the Li River that we seemed to forget the wet and cold weather.
