Cheng Teng means clear dessert, an ancient Teochew word. If nowadays, it would be called Tao Teng.
Original recipe, slightly changed ingredients to suit the taste of modern eaters. One cup is packed with toppings such as ginkgo nuts, Chinese dates, lotus seeds, water chestnuts, barley, grass jelly, red beans, longan, and 3 types of flour: Cheng Sim Yi, Bok Kia, Sou Yi. All toppings are ancient recipes. There is no corn or jelly. Really.
The side dish that we like the most is Cheng Sim Yi.
Made from glutinous rice flour, molded into a round sheet.
And Bok Kia is made from rice flour mixed with tapioca flour.
Formed into long, oval noodles similar to Lod Chong
And Sou Yi is made from tapioca flour, diced tapioca flour, chewy when chewed. I really like these three friends.
Auntie's shop is outstanding and unlike any other is the sweet noodles.
Cheng Tung sweet noodles (55 baht) is therefore the number one best-selling menu item and is so delicious that there is a special sweet noodle menu item.
The price is not expensive. Anyone who visits Yaowarat must go and support them.
