2025 Stradbroke Island Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in March)

This was such a great trip! Trip over to straddy in a fairy, drive to the beach camp and set up an awesome campsite! Soooo many things to do there! Beach, 4wding, Lakes, Hiking, Fishing, Jetskiing, Sunsets & Sunrises! Was such an incredible little holiday with a group of people, definitely recommend!! You can also hire out a cabin if that’s more your style

North Stradbroke Island is a beautiful island in Queensland, Australia. Getting There - Public Transport: From Brisbane, take the train to Cleveland and then transfer to the ferry to North Stradbroke Island. The ferry ride takes about 30–45 mins. Best Time to Visit - The island has a subtropical climate, with spring-like weather all year round, making it suitable for travel throughout the year. However, summers (December to February) can be quite hot, while winters (June to August) are cooler and ideal for outdoor activities. Recommended Attractions - North Gorge Walk: This is a walkway around the headland, offering spectacular ocean views and a chance to see diverse marine life. You can also see iconic landmarks such as Whale Rock along the trail. - Point Lookout: This is an excellent location for whale watching, dolphin spotting, and observing other marine life. During winter, you can also see migrating humpback whales. - Brown Lake: This is a beautiful freshwater lake with a unique brown color. You can swim, boat, or enjoy other water activities here. - Myora Springs: This is a unique ecosystem consisting of mangroves, rainforest, and clear streams. You can stroll along the boardwalk and enjoy the beautiful natural scenery. - Dunwich: This is one of the oldest towns on the island, with a rich history and culture. You can visit museums, art galleries, and historical buildings here. Food Recommendations - Seafood: Due to the abundant marine resources around North Stradbroke Island, seafood is one of the local specialties. You can enjoy fresh fish, prawns, crabs, shellfish, and other seafood dishes. - Australian Steak: Australian steak is known for its tenderness, juiciness, and rich flavor. Only 40 mins ferry ride from Brisbane , you will get on the 2nd biggest sand island of Queensland. Spend a Day on the island is so relax for the whole family. You will spot whales and dolphins, kangaroos sometime! #familytravel #daytrip

One of Queensland's most beautiful and untouched places, Stradbroke Island, or Straddie as it is more commonly referred to is a definite must visit place. Although we camped and used our 4WD, you can also stay in more luxury accommodation or even just catch the barge for a day trip over.

Address - Stradbroke island (straddie) 1 hour 30 from Brisbane Highlights - seeing the wild kangaroos up close, they were so friendly and happy to come close to you and jump around while you sit and eat or just enjoy the sun. Whale watching as it is whale season in east Australia at the minute (June/july) completely free and there are specific spots build specifically for this with a perfect view of the ocean from a high point. Lots of lovely restaurants and bars, locals are really friendly and it’s not too busy! Bus made it really accessible to get around the island, however only run every hour so make sure to check the times. We got a ferry from Cleveland (1 hour train journey from Brisbane city) which was very cheap $20 for a return and took around 25 minutes Rating -10/10 great budget friendly day out
