Receptionist is very friendly, helping us and explaining in details for the amenities in the hotel. We stayed 3 days 2 nights in the hotel, on the second day onsen is under maintenance and great that hotel arrange to send us to another onsen area for complimentary onsen experience. View from the level 4 breakfast area is stunning Mount Fuji view, please don’t miss booking breakfast of the hotel. There’re plenty of restaurants in the hotel, and even at the onsen place. Room is pretty good because tea table and chairs are in the room taking up the space. You’ll enjoy your stay in the hotel, at least we enjoyed.
Service staff were efficient, although queueing to trade your keys for your shoes slowed things down. (Understandable, because this is also a day-trip onsen, so the hotel needs to ensure all tabs are covered before letting guests go.)
Facilities were old but well-maintained, although my room window couldn't be closed without force. Wide variety of baths to choose from, and convenient hours.
Note that there is no shampoo, conditioner or body soap in guestrooms, as this is an onsen facility - all soaps and bath amenities are provided in the onsen area.
Several onsite restaurants providing many food options, which made up for the lack of vegetarian-friendly options around the area.
Shuttle was super convenient and staff was amazing. I would definitely stay here again if I were to come back.
Breakfast was delicious. Make sure you book and include breakfast with your stay. Most places were a tad far walking. And some places opened after 11am
Id give service and staff 5/5 they made us feel welcomed and were so kind and professional.
Room had a decent size to it. Bed was comfortable
Picture shown here was at the Lobby rest area. We were able to get a glimpse of Mount Fuji on the morning we were checking out.
Resort in Fuyo is located very conveniently and if you get the Mount Fuji view like my room, you’ll wake up with the amazing view! Down side is the lobby and walk way in general smells like cigarettes…
The hotel was a pleasant surprise with an unexpectedly rich array of activities.
Hidden in the back garden was a large, beautifully manicured Japanese garden. Sipping Japanese matcha while gazing at the small bridges and flowing water was incredibly relaxing.
The taiko drum performance was incredibly energetic! The young performers had amazing stamina, drumming, dancing, and chanting all at once. During the intermission, they even invited children to join in and drum to the rhythm. I later found out it was a performance put on by the hotel staff themselves, which showed so much love and dedication.
There were also bingo games and piano performances, and even one-year-old kids got to wear cute little yukatas! 🫰
From the room, we had a view of Mount Fuji, which was still covered in snow in March. It was cold but stunningly beautiful.
The only minor downsides were that the rooftop open-air onsen with Mount Fuji views was open to women only very early in the morning, and we didn't get a chance to enjoy it due to our schedule. Also, the food might not have been the freshest; after all, fresh seafood isn't exactly a mountain specialty. While we didn't experience vomiting or diarrhea after eating, we did feel a bit off for two days.
We booked this stay for the in-house public hot bath and the lakeside advantage. Check-in was smooth and fast with the staff providing a lot of information, events happening nearby and the different attractions. They spoke good English and was very helpful and informative.
The room was disappointing though. It was old, no functional furnitures. The seat covers were very old and with stains. Tv was too small for the size of the room. No convenient outlet near, we used a outlet that was meant for a lamp. Bedding was comfortable though. It is based on traditional house style.
The bath was wonderful, not crowded at all. Dont think its worth the price with its current fixtures and furnishing. Unless it was the room that faces the lake but for that they will charge extra.
The room was super small, the bed was small, and there was a bed. But the facilities are complete, the service is very good, and the breakfast is delicious. There is a supermarket nearby and there are many restaurants, which is very convenient. Recommended stay
Quiet place, food is ok, hot springs are very good, room facilities are a bit insufficient, the place to put things is not enough, there is no hook, only hangers, there is no place to put cosmetics in the bathroom, only a small mirror cabinet can put things.
It was definitely an enjoyable and worthy experience of traditional ryokan with tatami and futon with the best view of Mt. Fuji from the room window! The hotel itself overlooks parts of Mt. Fuji with Lake Kawaguchiko, and we even added on dinner and breakfast during the stay! They are simply one of the best meals during the trips in Tokyo! The onsen is another bonus to enjoy while seeing the view of Mt Fuji, even though it is public hot spring which might be a culture shock. Definitely worth to try it out again to enjoy the traditional Japan vibes around Lake Kawaguchiko.

RRomain DannaWe had a wonderful stay at Grand Mercure Yatsugatake as a family traveling with a baby. The hotel is surrounded by nature, with beautiful views of the mountains, which immediately creates a calm and relaxing atmosphere — perfect for families who want to slow down and breathe.
The hotel is very family-friendly. Traveling with a baby can be stressful, but the staff made us feel welcome and comfortable from the moment we arrived. Everyone was kind, patient, and attentive, which really made a difference for us as parents.
The room was spacious, clean, and quiet, with enough space to comfortably stay with a baby. We especially appreciated the peaceful environment at night, which allowed our baby (and us!) to rest well.
The facilities were also well suited for families. The common areas are easy to navigate with a stroller, and the overall layout of the hotel feels relaxed and not overwhelming. The natural surroundings add a special charm and make the stay feel refreshing and rejuvenating.
Overall, Grand Mercure Yatsugatake is an excellent choice for families with babies who are looking for comfort, tranquility, and good service in a beautiful natural setting. We would definitely consider coming back and recommend it to other families traveling with young children.
GGuest UserI very much enjoyed my stay at the Shimobe Hotel. I originally wanted to stay at a nearby temple in Mount Minobe but realized that it was mainly an experience made for foreigners. I think we were the only foreigners there for our 2-night stay. I personality want to avoid staying with foreigners and want more of the local experience. The service was great, they could check you in and out without too much of a language barrier. We added dinner during check-in without any problem, we realized that the town closed early at night and was concerned that we wouldn't find a great place to eat dinner. The buffet dinner was great and we got a complimentary sashimi plate and yuzu highball on our second day. The breakfast buffet was also very good with a mix of local and western dishes. The station is located right near the hotel so it makes it a perfect spot to make a quick Mount Minobe day trip.

Ddavidbai_926This hotel boasts unbeatable views. Lake Kawaguchiko is right next door, and Mount Fuji stands majestically behind it. You can choose between a lake view room or a mountain view room, but there isn't an option to see both the lake and the mountain from the same room. The hotel's service is absolutely superb. There's a frequent shuttle bus service to and from Kawaguchiko Station. Check-in is handled by a dedicated staff member who comes to you, so you don't have to wait in line at the front desk. The dinner at the hotel is incredibly diverse, with a wide selection of Japanese dishes like sushi, Western cuisine, and Chinese food, all of which are delicious. Breakfast is slightly less impressive than dinner but still very extensive. The rooms are spacious, and the futons are already laid out for you by staff upon arrival. Overall, it's a hotel with excellent value for money, though it does show a little age.
XXixiyaI really loved it here and would definitely come back if I get the chance. It's incredibly quiet, almost as if there are only 11 rooms in the whole hotel. Breakfast is included in the room rate, and each room is assigned a private breakfast room. The staff are super warm and patient. Plus, there's free alcohol and Starbucks coffee in the hotel lounge area.
Just a heads-up, many hotels in Japan charge per person. I thought my 5-year-old wouldn't incur a charge, but we ended up paying a small extra fee. Honestly, I found it acceptable since we still got to enjoy the services. So, remember to specify the exact number of guests when booking your hotel.
The private onsen was an absolute treat! If your child finds it too hot, they can always use the bathtub instead~
