The location was a combination of beach and jungle. The room was excellent, comfortable and clean. It had a bedroom plus a living room and you could exit both onto the private garden which led down to the beach. We also had a pool. The room was cleaned daily and water, etc updated. The grounds were lovely and paths kept clean of leaves etc. Finally, the staff were brilliant. I am unable to name one in particular as they were all friendly and efficient, always willing to sort something out for me, e.g. I lost my phone (I hadn’t really lost it I’d just forgotten what I’d done with it) but they looked for it for me and were completely understanding when I was making a fuss over nothing! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would happily return.

TL;DR - you need to go here, it's incredible. Super kind people, incredible views, villas, and vibes. This hotel was the best we have ever been to, and for many reasons. Combination of the view, atmosphere, food, kindness, activities all added to an incredible experience for our honeymoon. We loved our time here, and are already planning on going back in the future. Not just that, but every single person here was incredibly kind -- maybe it's culture of the country, or the culture of this hotel, but every person made us feel actually *appreciated* and felt like we were genuinely welcome and happy to have us there. We have been to many hotels, all with nice staff with professional courtesy, but never truly welcome as if by a friend to their home. Amazing time!

My stay at Samawa Living was absolutely phenomenal! From the moment I arrived, I felt an incredible sense of warmth and care from the staff. As a solo traveller, I was made to feel so safe and seen, which made the experience even more special. It truly felt like a home away from home. I’d like to give a special thanks to Kadogo, Hashimu, Baby, Asha, and the rest of the amazing team who went above and beyond to make my stay unforgettable. Their genuine kindness and attentive service stood out in every interaction. The location of the hotel was perfect – close to the iconic Paje Beach, with convenient access via buggy, so I could enjoy the beauty of the area while still retreating to the calm and peaceful atmosphere of the hotel. The boho vibes of Samawa Living were stunning, with every detail thoughtfully designed to create a cosy and serene environment. From the delicious meals to the immaculate rooms and tranquil ambience, everything about Samawa Living exceeded my expectations. I can’t wait to return! If you’re looking for a safe, stylish, and welcoming place to stay in the Paje area, I highly recommend it.

The villa is very beautiful and peaceful. Stayed there for 12 nights with my boyfriend and we enjoyed the villa so much. All the staff are super friendly and ready to always assist to your satisfaction. The food is very tasty and always freshly made. They are not a five star villa for nothing, They deserve more stars ❤️❤️❤️❤️ This is a very safe environment as well.

First of all, the advantages here are designer hotels, design with great care, rich characteristics, everywhere can make blockbusters. There are also many shortcomings. First of all, the location is remote and the price is not cheap. Except for the hotel itself having two kayaks, there is no sea exercise. The beach is not good, because there are fishing villages nearby, so it is dirty and there are many rocks. The food was exquisite and too delicate, leading to a little bit of food not enough. Unexpectedly, the fishing village next to it can buy the seafood that local fishermen catch every day. The price is incredible. I bring my own hot pot base to help the hotel process, which is absolutely satisfying for the stomach of the food. The hotel is built on topography, up and down are not very friendly to families with children, suitable for couples to travel

The hotel is built around mangroves and the monkeys could be seen all over the hotel which always made our day. It has an authentic feel and it was nice to see locals in the water harvesting seaweed and Maasai on the beach. There was a Maasai show one evening which was great fun to watch. The room had everything we needed and the bathroom / dressing area was huge. We were located near the lobby and there were no problems with noise. The hotel is beautiful and we were honestly awed as we walked around the hotel. We spent a lot of time on the jetty on the days we stayed in resort and had no problems finding sunbeds even when arriving at around 10. The jetty bar is great and a lovely place to spend an evening. It was windy at times but didn’t impact things too much. Admittedly we found the main restaurant did lack variety compared to other all inclusive hotels we stayed at but we always found something to eat. There is another restaurant on site that was payable and we visited twice for dinner while we were there. Fantastic service and food both times. The lobster (around $25) was huge. Staff are great and can’t do enough to help. We had several excursions during our stay which we all enjoyed and spent some time in Paje which is a short taxi ride from the hotel at a cost of around $20. I wouldn’t hesitate to return to Zanzibar and this hotel!

This is a little piece of paradise. The hotel is right on a beautiful beach and has a lovely infinity pool looking out to the ocean. The food is the best we had on the island. The owners and staff are lovely people they can’t enough for their guests, it really has a home from home vibe. The grounds are beautiful and the views when having your meals are breathtaking. Such a tranquil spot and the rooms are spacious comfortable and clean and the WiFi was great. I can’t fault anything about this hotel. Such a beautiful setting

If you're looking for a hotel that provides seclusion in a location well placed for small excursions, then look no further. The welcome and hospitality at this resort are second to none. Thank you, Megan, Majid, Micheal, Pascal, Olivio, Ezikial, Maddy, Paulina, Captain Haiji, Ali, and pretty much most of the staff at this wonderful resort. I had a great two-night stay at this hotel, which looked like a cute holiday resort - perfect for relaxing after a 6-day safari. The staff were incredibly nice, and my room was cleaned after each night, which I really appreciated, even though it’s standard practice. There was only a flat sheet provided instead of a duvet, which confused me at first because the air conditioning made the room quite cold at night. However, after experiencing the heat and humidity of Zanzibar the next day, it made sense 😂 The bed was comfortable, the shower was clean with hot water, and the pool was beautiful. You can explore nearby villages, and the locals were so friendly. I even followed some local girls to a wedding on Friday 😆 Kids waved and smiled at me, and a few ran up to give me a hug! It was beautiful to see them enjoying themselves with simple, real activities like riding bikes and rolling car wheels, instead of being glued to technology. The whole atmosphere felt very vibrant and authentic. I didn’t try the restaurant, so I can’t comment on the food, but the breakfasts were nice. I spent an evening at the hotel bar, and the staff were great - friendly, funny, and they made good cocktails. They also ensured I reviewed and signed the bill at the end, so there were no issues with payments during checkout 😊 Asante Sana!

We had the best experience in Aluna beach hotel! The rooms are just wonderful, clean, nice bathroom and very nice new bed. 2 steps to the lovely beach. Edward, Tuma and Bony especially made our stay amazing. They are all so friendly, offer their help and tips whenever we needed. Thank you team Aluna! Staying at Hakuna Majiwe felt like finding a hidden slice of paradise, a real good value for money. It was made even more special by the incredible team that runs the place. I came here with my parents and my sister this summer, end of July approx. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with such warmth and genuine care that it felt like coming home. The staff here aren’t just doing their jobs—they’re truly passionate about making your stay unforgettable. Every interaction, from the friendly greetings in the morning to the thoughtful touches throughout the day, showed how much they genuinely care about their guests' experience. They cared a lot, helping with the suitcases, bringing the food to the room (room service), showing a service and type of staff seen nowhere but as in Hakuna Majiwe. What really stood out to me, though, was the food. Breakfast had a variety in worldwide and local food, which is thanked to try the flavors from Zanzibar. Every meal was a treat, bursting with fresh, local flavors, they tasted amazing, hats off to the chef, who even asked us if everything was good! The chefs clearly put their heart into every meal, and it shows. If we had to mention a downside, we would say that, as we kind of came in a time in which there were no guests, we missed a bit more of activity, animation at the hotel… Though, some new guests came the last 2 days we had there. Hakuna Majiwe isn’t just a hotel; it’s a place where you feel truly looked after, where every detail is taken care of so you can fully relax and enjoy your surroundings. The amazing staff, food and decoration made my stay here something I’ll always remember fondly! Thanks!!

My family and I were in Zanzibar over the December holidays with accommodation booked at ngalawa hotel and resort. I must say the place was breath taking from the entrance. Palm trees all around. It was family friendly which allowed for easy entertainment of kids, with I don't know how many swimming pools( yes they are that many😉😄😄🙄). It is away from the chaos of the city but very close to a lot of activities and tourist sites. There is an in house travel guide who helps with tour booking and yes covid test booking. The staff was amazing always available. Restaurant also on site. I can write a book about this place. Go see it yourself 😉

The staff here are amazing especially Mr Ginton (F&B manager) and MADAM Jane (general manager) we requested them and suggested them they did there best to serve and change the breakfast to our likings. The staff at this hotel were incredibly welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. The rooms were immaculate and very comfortable. We also enjoyed the delicious breakfast each morning and loved the convenient location close to major attractions.”

We had the best experience in Aluna beach hotel! The rooms are just wonderful, clean, nice bathroom and very nice new bed. 2 steps to the lovely beach. Dhow Inn is located in the heart of Paje. We loved that we could walk out to the beach and take a walk on this beautiful sandy beach. The beach offers lots of options for restaurants, cafes and bars as well as excursion options from different operators. The hotel’s location makes it a convenient base for all your adventures. Accommodations: The room offered comfortable beds, clean linens, and private balcony with a private pool/spa. The room was also equipped with a safe, coffee maker, and the pool with lounges and umbrellas was right Infront of the room. Amenities: Dhow Inn offers 3 swimming pools providing a refreshing retreat after a day of exploring. The hotel also has a gym and spa for those who can't miss a workout. Dining: We really liked the buffet style dining with many options to choose from including salads, sandwiches, fruits, hot options, deserts, juices, tea and coffee. The restaurant also offers a la carte dining, but must be reserved the day before. We really enjoyed dinner time show by local acrobats. Service: The staff at Dhow Inn Hotel were genuinely friendly and attentive. They were always eager to assist with any requests or recommendations, making us feel valued and welcomed throughout our stay.

We were pleasantly surprised by this location - loved it. From the moment you walked in, it was like an oasis! Luxuriant vegetation, a good pool, and nice place to relax around it. The rooms were much bigger than expected. The decoration was a perfect combination between boho chic and minimalist. The roof was the restaurant which was amazing. Loved the food! Even tough we chose the same breakfast almost every day, the avocado never got old :))). Dinner was always on top and had really good options. The vegetarian options surprised us in a very good way! Staff was very attentive and helpful! Now to our hosts - the Zanzibarista team - the were very very helpful, form the start, when we started looking for options in Zanzibar. It made it in the end easy to choose them. After, constantly giving us the needed infos, tips and tricks. On site, all of our expectations were met and above. We even had do visit the ER due to a health condition and Alex was so nice and helped us with the entire process.

If you want to have a peaceful and relaxing vacation, avoid this hotel at all costs. I stayed there in January 2023 with family and friends. We had already stayed at the Cristal Resort Hotel twice before and we decided to go back again because of the nice location and what used to be ’friendly’ staff. On our 5th night, before we went to bed I checked the door and all of the windows of our ECO bungalow to be sure they were completely locked and secure. In the morning, we woke up to discover that we had been robbed while my parents and I were asleep. The window from the bathroom was wide open and our phones, money (thousands) and 2 bags were gone. We immediately informed the hotel management about this but their only concern was why we had not put our money in the safe box. The answer is very simple- we usually use the safe box when we are out of the room, not while we were asleep. Beyond the fact that someone was in our room while we were asleep, imagine how worse things could have been had we woken up while the thief/thieves were still in the room. The hotel has a huge security problem and they know it very well. In order to open a closed sliding window they must have had a premeditated plan or system to be able to open it successfully from the outside... and not to have any security guards in that area at night is just outrageous. In hindsight I am pretty sure we were being observed. It had all been planned very well and they knew everything in order to succeed - who had the money of the group, where we were sleeping, everything. In the morning, we called the police and after they finally came, out of nowhere, one of the hotel staff called us to show us that they had found our backpacks without any money in them of course. We found our phones inside one of the backpacks without our SIM cards in them and after we switched them on we saw on the Steps App that our things had been stolen at 3 am in the morning and that the thief/thieves only took just 78 steps and stopped right near the fence of the hotel. The police was trying to play things down by saying that we were so lucky we got our phones back. A few hours later, I received a message from the hotel manager saying precisely this: --- I spoke with our broker and I checked our insurance. It covers things like cameras, phones and laptops but not money, because the issue of money is very complex. --- This is another reason that led us to believe that the hotel staff was involved. What an unbelievable coincidence! We only retrieved the things that were not covered by their insurance- our phones. On top of that, they also had the appalling audacity to say that we needed to wait for the police investigation as they needed to find out whether this had happened for real or not, because according to them, nothing actually proved that somebody had robbed us and that we could have orchestrated the whole thing ourselves...Great! They were also putting pressure on us to stop this scandal because

As the name implies, these are serviced apartments, it’s not a hotel. The location is slightly further from the beach than most tourist conveniences, but Paje is not big (we’re talking anbout 350m), and not being on the centre of tourism suits me better. It is quiet, has everything one needs, and John, the manager, was great. I would definitely stay here again. The only thing I might suggest was a discomfort, was that when we had one of the notorious big island-wide blackouts for almost 12 hours, Nebo wasn’t the most prepared. I actually come from a country that has struggled with constant electricity for several years. Generators, solar lights, and more than anything, reassurance for tourists who may not know the area, are useful. The cooker is gas, and cellphones come with torches, so I was completely fine. It just would have been good I think, given how quiet it was, to check. I’d still recommend it.
