Zhaowangcheng Site Park, also known as the Zhao Capital Palace City, is located approx. 4 km from the southwestern suburbs of Handan. It is one of the best-preserved ancient city sites from the Warring States period in China and is a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level. The entire site consists of three small cities:Zhaowangcheng Site - East City, West City, and North City. They are arranged in a "pin" shape, covering a total area of approx. 5.05 million square meters. The site is surrounded by winding, undulating rammed-earth walls with a remaining height of approx. 3–8 m. Inside, there are well-organized and scattered building foundations, with over a dozen large underground rammed-earth foundations and several remains of city gate towers around the perimeter. The West City is relatively well-preserved and nearly square. There are five large earthen platforms remaining on the site, with a taller one, the "Zhao Handan Ancient City - Longtai Platform", located in the south-central part, which served as the main building foundation of the palace at that time. To the north of this, there are two more large rammed-earth platforms, forming a north-south central axis. On both sides of the central axis, there are 6 remaining surface rammed-earth platforms and underground rammed-earth building foundations. This is a magnificent complex of palace buildings centered around the "Zhao Handan Ancient City - Longtai Platform". The East and West cities are separated by only one wall. Inside the city, there are two large earthen platforms, which legend says are the "Nanjiangtai" and "Beijiangtai" where the King of Zhao reviewed his troops. There are underground rammed-earth foundations between the two platforms and to their north and south. This is the north-south central axis building complex of theZhaowangcheng Site - East Citywith the general platforms as its main feature. The North City is nearly square, but its shape is not very regular. Except for some remaining wall sections on the ground in the southern part of the west wall, the rest only have underground wall foundations. The earthen platform in the western part of the North City site is second in size only to the "Zhao Handan Ancient City - Longtai Platform", and is also the foundation of a palace building complex.Handan · 11.5 km from downtown

It is located in the southern section of Chuancheng Street in the urban area of Handan, with a total length of about 75 meters. According to legend, this is the place where Zhao Shangqing and Lin Xiangru made way for the general Lian Po to return to the car, hence the name. There is a stone tablet erected in the 12th year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty on the wall at the east entrance of the lane, with the six characters "Lin Xiangru Returning to the Car Lane" engraved on it. There is a stone tablet next to it. The inscription records that Lin Xiangru put the national interests first, and made way for Lian Po to return to the car many times, and strived to reconcile Xiangru.Handan · 5.2 km from downtown

The hometown of Tai Chi has well-preserved ancient city walls and many performance programs, but it is still quite commercialized. During the National Day holiday, there are a lot of tourists, especially at night, which causes serious traffic jams.

As a national first-class museum, the exhibition halls are clearly laid out. The "Gandan Splendor" general history exhibition on the third floor is the highlight, tracing the history from the Cishan Culture to the Zhao Culture, and connecting familiar idioms and stories like "Hu Fu Qi She" (adopting nomadic dress and cavalry archery) and "The Return of the Jade Intact to Zhao" with the artifacts. The three themed halls on Cizhou ware, stone carvings, and coins from various dynasties on the fourth floor are very characteristic of the region. The bronze horse and the smiling Arhat head, the museum's prized possessions, are worth a closer look. The museum's facilities are excellent. The exhibition halls are spacious and bright, with clear signage and seating. The cultural and creative products are also quite nice! We leisurely strolled around for about two hours. The children were very interested in the Cizhou ware porcelain pillows and various bronze artifacts, making it feel like a vivid history study lesson. ⚠️Driving and parking tips: During holidays, the museum's main parking lot can be crowded and long queues are common. If you don't want to wait a long time, you can park in the parking lot outside the Guangsha residential area. From there, it's about a 10-minute walk to the museum, avoiding the queues and saving you a lot of trouble. The museum gets very crowded during holidays, and guided tours are in high demand. Since we hadn't booked in advance, we used AI to look up information about the exhibits on-site, and the explanations were quite good. One minor drawback was that cleaning wasn't always timely during peak visitor times, and there was a noticeable earthy smell in the exhibition halls. If you're visiting Handan and want to truly understand this city of idioms, this is definitely worth a stop.

On a spring morning, I stepped into Congtai Park in Handan. Climbing the stone steps to Wuling Congtai, the green bricks and gray tiles gleamed softly in the warm sun, and the statue of King Wuling of Zhao, dressed in nomadic attire and riding an cavalry, seemed to still be fluttering in the wind. Turning around and looking down, the lake was like a mirror, and the hexagonal eaves of Wangzhu Pavilion peeked out from the water like an ancient green seal. I passed through the Temple of the Seven Sages, where, nestled among pines and cypresses, the statues of Lian Po and Lin Xiangru stood silently facing each other, evoking the noble sentiment of "bearing thorns to apologize." Willow branches swayed gently by the lake, and the fragrance of lotus blossoms wafted through the air. Elderly people practiced Tai Chi, and children fed koi fish; history and daily life clasped hands here. Climbing to the ruins of the ancient city wall, the buildings of Handan and the distant mountains came into view, and time and space seemed to overlap. Before leaving the park, the setting sun gilded Congtai with a layer of gold. I looked back, and the sound of war drums seemed to echo in my ears, my heart filled with a thousand-year-old heroic spirit.

We had a wonderful connection with Ms. Chen Xueyan. She was also the one who gave our lecture at Beixiangtang the day before. She was incredibly kind and her lectures were both informative and engaging. She lectured for about two hours straight, until her voice was hoarse. A fantastic experience! 👍🏻

I placed a last-minute order at noon for the afternoon session that same day, and the customer service lady called me instantly to arrange it—so efficient! They even made an exceptional arrangement for Ms. Juanjuan from Quyu Talks; she's incredibly knowledgeable, gave a thorough explanation, and connected the sculptures to other grottoes, styles, and the social and historical context of the time—it was excellent!

In addition to visiting those famous attractions in Handan, you still have to check in at the Xuebu Bridge. After all, we learned an idiom when we were young called "Learning to walk in Handan". The origin of the Xuebu Bridge, although the bridge is no longer ancient, it is worth checking in.

The Cizhou Kiln Museum is a cultural treasure well worth a visit. Here's my honest review: Pros: Extensive Ceramics Collection: The museum houses a large collection of exquisite Cizhou Kiln ceramics, including classic black-glazed, white-glazed, and painted porcelains, showcasing the kiln's rich heritage in ceramic craftsmanship. Historical and Cultural Heritage: As a major ceramic kiln in northern China, Cizhou Kiln boasts a long history. Through its rich exhibits and detailed presentations, the museum offers a deep understanding of its historical evolution and cultural significance. Interactive Experiences: Some exhibition areas offer hands-on ceramic-making experiences, allowing visitors to experience the charm of ceramics firsthand, enhancing the fun and educational value of the visit. Beautiful Environment: The museum is clean and well-planned, with lounge areas and teahouses, making it suitable for families or cultural enthusiasts to explore in depth. Constraints: Exhibition Content is Slightly Limited: Some exhibits lack detailed explanations, which may leave visitors unfamiliar with the history of the Cizhou Kiln feeling underwhelmed. Transportation: Public transportation may be inconvenient for those without a car, so planning your trip in advance is recommended. Overall Review: The Cizhou Kiln Museum is an excellent place to learn about Chinese ceramic culture and experience traditional craftsmanship. Whether you're a ceramics enthusiast, a historian, or just a casual tourist, there's something to discover here. Highly recommended for anyone interested in learning more about Chinese ceramics!

The ancient city is pretty good, but the service is not good. There are very few electric cars, and the bicycles on the city wall are also very rare. The ancient bridge is 3 kilometers away from the ancient city, and they didn't even tell us about ticket sales, so we didn't have time to see it.

A Hidden Gem for True History Nerd. For travelers who seek the roots of civilization, Zhaowangcheng in Handan is a must-visit and one of China's most underrated historical sites. This was the capital of the Zhao State during the Warring States Period. These ruins are contemporary with the Terracotta Army—over 2,300 years old. While everyone knows the silent soldiers, few know the grand capital city that was a powerhouse of innovation and culture.Walking through the archaeological park, you see the excavated foundations of palaces and city walls. It requires some imagination, but the on-site museum helps you visualize the grandeur.Don't come expecting a polished restoration. Come for the profound sense of history and the quiet atmosphere. For anyone with a passion for deep history, Zhaowangcheng isn't just a site; it's a pilgrimage.

Huiche Lane is not only the place where the story of Lin Xiangru and Lian Po took place, but also witnessed the historical changes of ancient Handan. This lane was once part of the Great North City of Handan, the ancient capital of Zhao. What can be seen now is the six stone characters "Lin Xiangru Huiche Lane" written and inlaid on the wall of the lane entrance by Xiao Cha, the magistrate of Handan, in the 12th year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1584) based on rumors from the people. In 1981, the place was repaired and a stone pavilion and stone tablet were built to commemorate this historical event.
