The first group of autumn chasers in Inner Mongolia for 2025 is back! — traveler post in Ergun

The first group of autumn chasers in Inner Mongolia for 2025 is back!

Sharing a fresh 6-day, 5-night northern route road trip guide The scenery throughout the whole trip was so beautiful it left me speechless, especially the Ka Line! Who gets it, guys? 😭 · [My autumn chasing travel route] Day 1: Arrive in Hailar from across the country → Hexi Morning Market → Morigele River → Si Dadui 🏨Ergun Day 2: Ergun → Genbai Line → Xing'an Reindeer Park → Moerdaoga 🏨Moerdaoga Day 3: Moerdaoga National Forest Park → Linjiang 🏨Shiwei Day 4: Linjiang morning mist → Shiwei → Jiuka → Baka → Qika → Enhe 🏨Enhe Day 5: Enhe → Wuka → Wulan Mountain Scenic Area → Heishantou sunset 🏨Heishantou Day 6: Heishantou → Manzhouli ✈️Fly home from Manzhouli · [My personal top favorites] Ka Line > Linjiang > Enhe > Heishantou > Genbai Line > Moerdaoga Seriously! The Ka Line is absolutely amazing. The scenery from Jiuka to Wuka never repeats 🍁 Birch forests, Swiss roll-like grasslands, winding rivers, wetlands... get it all in one go! You won't get tired of the views at all. It's legendary! 🌟 · [Tips to avoid pitfalls] ❶ The Moerdaoga small train 🚂 is easily the biggest rip-off of the trip! It's the definition of paying to suffer 😤 ❷ Morigele River: the higher the expectations, the bigger the disappointment 🤔 Personally, I still prefer the Ergun River~ · [Travel expenses 💰] 4 people, 1 car, 6 days and 5 nights expenses as follows: Car rental: 1,399. Gas and tolls: 763. Meals: 1,613. Accommodation: 2,464. Admission tickets: 560. Total 6,799 ÷ 4 = 1,699.7 1,600 per person excluding major transportation! Major transportation 1,275/person This Inner Mongolia trip cost 2,900 per person! Great value for money ✨ · [Autumn chasing tips] ✨ You must visit the Hexi Morning Market in Hailar! Try the lamb paper-skin shumai, milk tea, and fresh milk ✨ Morigele River cliff: First navigate to 📍 Tuga Camp, then navigate to Mabei Mountain ✨ For the Si Dadui wetlands, navigate directly to 📍 Renhua Store. Whether you can get up the hill depends on luck 🍀 ✨ For the Linjiang morning mist, navigate to 📍 Linjiang Morning Mist Viewing Point. It's more beautiful than the other side of the village! And fewer people! ✨ For the Heishantou sunset, navigate to 📍 Heishantou Sunset Observation Point. Shuttle bus is 20 per person round trip ✨ Staying two extra days in Enhe is definitely worth it. You can experience making Lieba, birch bark pyrography, kayaking, and horseback riding · Inner Mongolia in autumn is truly as beautiful as an oil painting 🎨 Every frame is screen-saver worthy! "I don't think I'll ever forget autumn in the Greater Khingan Mountains for the rest of my life." — traveler post in Ergun

"I don't think I'll ever forget autumn in the Greater Khingan Mountains for the rest of my life."

"I finally saw it in the Greater Khingan Mountains! The golden autumn of my dreams. 🍂 It felt like walking into a stunning oil painting. The busy harvest scenes in the villages looked just like a Van Gogh painting. 🖼️ The log cabins in Enhe, the morning mist in the hidden gem of Qiqian, and the sunset at Heishantou. 🌄 The colorful wetlands of Ergun, and come ride the forest train heading into autumn. 🚂 Every scene was as beautiful as a dream! I think this is the most beautiful autumn I've ever seen! Trust me! The northern route of Hulunbuir is the essence of autumn sightseeing! 💯 . 🚗 Route recommendations 1️⃣ Hailar – Morigele River – Grassland wilderness – Ergun 2️⃣ Ergun – Birch Forest – Reindeer Park – Moerdaoga 3️⃣ Moerdaoga forest train – Laoyingzui – Shiwei – Enhe 4️⃣ Enhe – Smiley Face River – Border road – Horseback riding – Sunset, bonfire, and stargazing ✨ – Heishantou 5️⃣ Heishantou – Visit a herder's home – 186 Ribbon River – Swan Lake – Manzhouli (milking cows 🐄 – grassland train – popular swing) 6️⃣ Manzhouli – Windmill Road – Hulun Lake – Hulun Nur Grassland – Hailar . ✅ Autumn sightseeing time and transportation: The colorful golden autumn in the Greater Khingan Mountains generally reaches its peak in mid-to-late September 🍁. Keep an eye on the real-time updates shared by your tour leader this year! You can fly directly or transfer to Hailar from all over the country. Upon arrival, your tour leader will provide free pick-up and drop-off 🚗. ✅ Trip suggestions: There is basically no signal in many areas of the Hulunbuir border and the Greater Khingan Mountains 📶. Many beautiful landscapes are not in traditional scenic spots but are hidden along off-the-beaten-path routes. Therefore, self-driving is generally not recommended, as it is inconvenient and you won't fully enjoy the experience. We have chosen the small-group, pure sightseeing customization from our old friends at Sunshine Travel Agency many times! Everything including travel, accommodation, and activities is covered, highly recommended!! 👍 The local guide is familiar with niche spots, taking us away from the crowds to discover many wild autumn views. We traveled along the most beautiful autumn sightseeing route in the Greater Khingan Mountains, with golden trees on both sides of the road—it was breathtakingly beautiful 😭. The villages along the way also looked like scenes from an oil painting! 🖼️ Strolling along a path covered in ginkgo leaves, with sunlight filtering through the golden foliage and pedestrians walking leisurely, the whole world becomes gentle~ 🍂 No matter how good the scenery is, it's nothing compared to seeing it with your own eyes. Go and embrace your most beautiful autumn! 😭✨

I rarely use the word "breathtaking" to describe autumn in a place... — traveler post in Ergun

I rarely use the word "breathtaking" to describe autumn in a place...

But Hulunbuir truly achieved it. 🍂 Some journeys are dedicated to the unique romance of autumn 🍁 The northern autumn wind sweeps across Hulunbuir, the earth sheds its green, and unfolds an endless, gilded landscape. There is no preset script; the vast wilderness is the best theater for stories. On this journey north, I ventured into the autumn of Hulunbuir and completed the loop: 📍 Hailar → Ergun → Enhe → Shiwei → Moerdaoga → Genhe → Hailar Arriving at the Ergun River Valley, I truly witnessed what it means for the world to be vast. 🏞️ The river winds through golden meadows, the sunset descends, the evening breeze scatters the afterglow, grass waves surge, and cattle and sheep are scattered across the wilderness. The Honor phone in my hand captures the twilight and also records me standing in this world. 🌄 The meaning of travel is never just the destination, but awakening the desire in your heart to be different, and immersing yourself in the vast mountains and seas. Driving into the forest area, golden birch forests greet you. 🌳 The plain white trunks are set against trees full of autumn leaves, with dappled golden light filtering through the branches. No need to pose deliberately; just walk through the forest and let the fallen leaves fly with the wind. Use the lens to record the moment—running, stopping, gazing—this natural vitality is the most moving picture 📸 Heading north, grasslands and forests alternate. Climbing high to look out over the landscape, listening to the evening breeze by the river, laughing freely by the road. The photo album slowly accumulates sunsets, tree shadows, and wind, preserving the vibrant and relaxed self from the journey. Gradually I understand, the most wonderful moments are never at the destination. They are hidden in the wilderness autumn wind, the light beams in the forest, the fleeting sunset glow, and the moments that make your heart skip a beat when pressing the shutter 📷 It is the enthusiasm to rush to the mountains and seas, and also the beginning of breaking free from constraints ✨ We are always used to waiting until everything is ready before setting off, but golden autumn won't wait for anyone, and if you miss the scenery, you have to wait another year ⏳ Dare to think and dare to be different, which means putting down hesitation and setting off immediately. No need to wait for the spotlight; the mountains, riversides, and roads are all your stage. It turns out that the most moving stories in the world are always born on the road ahead 🌾 On this journey, I used my Honor phone to capture thousands of moments in the wilderness. The 2026 Global Call for Entries is underway. If you are also on the road, pick up your phone and record your own travel highlights 📱🌍

One day, you too will arrive in Hulunbuir in autumn... — traveler post in Ergun

One day, you too will arrive in Hulunbuir in autumn...

If you could only choose one season to visit Hulunbuir, I would choose autumn without hesitation! 🍁 Because autumn here seems to have saved all its gentle colors for gold, as if God overturned a palette here and sprinkled the warmest tones across the grasslands~ Starting from Hailar and heading north along the Ergun River 🚗, the grasslands, birch forests, and rivers are all painted with a golden filter by autumn. As the sunset 🍂 falls and the wind blows across the grass, the cattle and sheep 🐑 in the distance are scattered quietly, and time seems to slow down in this moment... At that moment, I felt that the rainbow-colored exterior of the vivo X500 created a very interesting contrast with this place ✨ On one side is the vast expanse of golden autumn, and on the other is the rainbow color 🌈 of the phone body that changes with light and angle. It is not a fixed color, but rather presents different brilliance under different lights~ Placed on the grassland, it is bright ✨; walking into the birch forest, it adds a touch of liveliness 🍃 It feels like carrying the light of autumn, along with a color of your own, by your side. Every snapshot looks like a blockbuster photo 📸 Taking a leisurely walk along the river during the day and watching the sunlight filter through the leaves to cast dappled shadows is truly so healing 😭

I've dreamed of the Greater Khingan Mountains since I was a kid, and now that I'm grown up, I finally had the chance to visit! — traveler post in Ergun

I've dreamed of the Greater Khingan Mountains since I was a kid, and now that I'm grown up, I finally had the chance to visit!

Hulunbuir in autumn is especially stunning—the forests are painted in layers of gold and green, looking just like an overturned artist's palette 🎨 Herds of sheep, cattle, and horses 🐑🐮, endless grasslands, and golden haystacks—these are all beautiful sights you just can't see in the big city!! I was truly healed by it all 🥹 · ⭐ Sharing my 7-day, 6-night dream itinerary: · *Day 1️⃣** Hailar → Morigele River → Haji Wilderness Grassland Sky Road → Wind Valley Sunset → Ergun (Stay in Ergun) · *Day 2️⃣** Ergun → Birch Forest → Reindeer Park → Longyan Mountain → Moerdaoga (Stay in Moerdaoga) · *Day 3️⃣** Moerdaoga National Forest Park → Taiping Forestry Farm → Eagle Mouth → Fairy Slope → Shiwei Port → Erguna River → Enhe Russian Ethnic Township (Stay in Enhe) · *Day 4️⃣** Enhe → Wolong Mountain → Smiley Face River → Most Beautiful Border Defense Line → Horseback riding across the grassland to watch the sunset → Bonfire party + grassland starry galaxy (Stay in Heishantou) · *Day 5️⃣** Heishantou milking cows and feeding lambs → Mongolian costume photoshoot → Grassland mini-train, grass sliding → Visit a herder's home → Border highway → 186 Ribbon River → Swan Lake (Stay in Manzhouli) · *Day 6️⃣** Manzhouli → Windmill Highway → Hulun Lake → Hailar → Arxan National Forest Park (Stay in Arxan) · *Day 7️⃣** Wusulangzi Lake morning mist → Bu Dong River → Arxan Railway Station → Hailar · ⚠️ Travel tips: ✔️ Best time for autumn foliage: Mid-September to late September each year 🍂 Autumn is short, so if you want to go, make sure to plan ahead! ✔️ Large temperature difference between day and night. It gets warmer at noon when the sun is out, but temperatures are lower on the northern route, so be sure to bring a thick jacket! ✔️ The border line areas like the Border Defense Line, Shiwei, and Manzhouli 🚫 prohibit drone flights. Please pay attention to the regulations~ ✔️ It's recommended to choose a reliable tour group or guide, as many niche hidden gems can only be found by locals! · 🥘 Food recommendations: Inner Mongolian lamb is absolutely amazing!! It has a natural, subtle milky aroma 🍼 You can't go wrong with roasted lamb chops and roasted lamb leg! There's also various cheese, Lieba (Russian-style bread), barbecue, Russian cuisine, lamb shumai... everything is unforgettable 😋

Erguna cabin is legendary | Take in the entire grassland valley view from your bed — traveler post in Ergun

Erguna cabin is legendary | Take in the entire grassland valley view from your bed

If you know, you know😭 I stayed in a hillside cabin in Erguna that looks like it’s straight out of an anime!! This is probably the most romantic way to experience autumn in Hulunbuir🍂 The A-frame cabin tucked away on the hillside is absolutely stunning! The massive slanted floor-to-ceiling windows frame the entire valley and grassland like a painting🎞️ Open the door to layers of golden larch trees, with the winding Genhe Wetland spreading out at your feet and the distant grasslands stretching to the horizon. At sunset, the landscape is bathed in a honey-gold glow, and you can occasionally spot horses grazing leisurely on the hillside—the vibe is truly top-tier! The room features a warm, vintage wooden aesthetic✨ With soft lighting, cozy bedding, and carpets and small decor items that evoke a nomadic feel. My favorite spot is the leisure corner by the window; I love brewing a cup of hot tea and just zoning out while watching the clouds drift slowly through the valley, with endless autumn colors in sight every time I look up. Waking up to sunlight streaming through the glass in the morning and lying in bed at night to watch the starry sky is pure healing! You can enjoy the view by walking down the colorful stairs, and every angle is incredibly photogenic📸 No need to deal with crowds; just enjoy a quiet moment with the autumn of the Greater Khingan Mountains. It’s very close to the wetland, so you can go out exploring during the day and return to the cabin when you’re tired to feel the breeze from the wild and listen to the rustling leaves—I really didn't want to leave at that moment. It’s perfect for couples, best friends, or anyone who loves slow travel. If you come to Hulunbuir, you must save one night for this place🌄 💡Tips ▪️The light is best at sunset between 6:30 PM–7:30 PM; the hillside viewing platform is perfect for photos ▪️The temperature difference between day and night in the mountains is huge! Be sure to bring a thick jacket ▪️Morning mist is common; wake up early to see the ethereal, misty wetland

Bailu Island Autumn Guide | Head to the Greater Khingan Mountains for a fairytale autumn by the Jiliu River — traveler post in Ergun

Bailu Island Autumn Guide | Head to the Greater Khingan Mountains for a fairytale autumn by the Jiliu River

If you're visiting the Greater Khingan Mountains in autumn, don't miss Bailu Island! The Jiliu River winds into a beautiful S-shaped bend here, and the island is wrapped in a colorful forest. The mountains are layered with birch and Dahurian larch, woven with golden and orange-red hues. It's quiet, uncrowded, and absolutely perfect for an autumn road trip. Essentials Clothing: The temperature difference in the forest area is huge in autumn. It's cool during the day but bone-chillingly cold in the early morning and evening. Be sure to pack a windbreaker, a light down jacket, and bring a hat and gloves. The forest floor is covered in fallen leaves, so wear non-slip sneakers to avoid slipping. Food: There are very few dining options around the scenic area. It's recommended to bring your own simple meals, hot water, and snacks. There are no restaurants near the viewing platform, so bring a picnic mat if you want to enjoy the atmosphere. Accommodation: Most tourists choose to visit on a day trip. If you want to take your time and soak in the autumn scenery, you can stay in Moerdaoga Town, which has a wide range of accommodation options. Transportation: A road trip is recommended. Navigate to Bailu Island and take the Genbai Highway. The entire route is lined with colorful forests, and there are many temporary parking spots along the way where you can stop to take photos at any time. Public transportation is inconvenient, so taking a bus alone is not recommended. Tickets Bailu Island is part of the Moerdaoga National Forest Park. You need to purchase a forest park ticket to enter. It is recommended to check the ticket price in advance. During peak season, you can book online to save time queuing on-site. Itinerary Drive along the Genbai Highway, stopping to take photos of the birch forests along the way → Enter Moerdaoga Forest Park → Drive to the Bailu Island parking lot → Walk up the viewing boardwalk to overlook the river bend from above → Stroll along the forest trails to view the colorful forests up close → Wait for the sunset to watch the sunlight spill over the river and trees, then head back. The whole trip takes about 3 hours. Must-see Attractions ✅ Bailu Island Viewing Platform: The core photo spot! From the top, you can see the S-shaped bend of the Jiliu River, with the island resting quietly in the center of the water, surrounded by a vast expanse of colorful forests. The view is wide and perfect for photos. ✅ Colorful Forests along the Genbai Highway: The scenery on the road is just as good as the destination. The vast birch forests shine in the sunlight, making it easy to snap cinematic road trip photos. ✅ Riverside Boardwalk: Stroll along the riverbank to see the reflection of the colorful forests in the clear water. If you're lucky, you might see birds skimming across the water. Tips 1. The best time to see autumn colors is from mid-September to the end of September, when the colors are most vibrant. By the National Day holiday, the leaves will have started to fall. 2. The weather in the forest area is changeable, so carry rain gear with you. Also, bring mosquito repellent, as there are still bugs in the forest. 3. Drone aerial photography of the S-shaped river bend is stunning, but be sure to follow the forest area's flight regulations. 4. Please protect the pristine environment. Take all your trash with you and do not trample on the vegetation. Autumn on Bailu Island is free from crowded crowds, offering only mountains, forests, rivers, and a sky full of autumn colors. Standing on the viewing platform, feeling the autumn breeze, and taking in the vibrant scenery washes away all the fatigue of city life. This autumn road trip is one you won't soon forget.

From Forest Sea to Pasture: Photo Spots in the Greater Khingan Mountains and Hulunbuir — traveler post in Ergun

From Forest Sea to Pasture: Photo Spots in the Greater Khingan Mountains and Hulunbuir

If you are looking for the most magnificent framing in Northern China, the forest-grassland combination of the Greater Khingan Mountains and Hulunbuir is almost irreplaceable. A classic traverse route starts from Mohe and spreads south to the pastures of Chen Barag Banner, with the entire journey serving as a flowing gallery of scenery. The core shooting spots in the Greater Khingan Mountains section are the bays and forests. The First Bay of the Heilongjiang River is a must-visit; the 998 steps are rewarded with the perfect Ω-shaped island loop carved by the Heilongjiang River. In autumn, the riverbanks are wrapped in golden leaves, creating a magnificent atmosphere. If you prefer soft light and shadows, the observation deck at the Nine Bends and Eighteen Turns Wetland Park is best visited in the early morning. As the morning mist drifts over the winding bends of the Emuer River, use a telephoto lens to compress the space and capture ink-wash painting-like layers. When driving through the birch forest avenue from Mohe to Mangui, there is no need to deliberately look for attractions. You can pull over at any time to take low-angle shots of the birch trunks and golden leaves, with the backlit leaves appearing as translucent as paper.🥵 Entering the Hulunbuir pastures, the rhythm of the scene shifts from contained to expansive. The Morigele River is known as the first winding river under heaven by Lao She. The cliffs on the north bank or the top of Muyun Mountain are the best positions for overhead shots. Use a wide-angle lens close to the ground, letting the grass spikes serve as the foreground, and watch the river's curves extend to the horizon.🐻‍❄️ In the evening, head to Heishantou. Sunset Hill is a natural studio for shooting silhouettes. With people riding horses, reflections in the wetlands, and fiery clouds all layered together, you hardly need a filter.🐴 If you want to capture that Windows desktop feel, the primitive wooden fences along the Morigele River are hidden gems. With blue skies and green grass paired with an old wooden fence, you can easily get a clean shot.📸 Some practical reminders: Autumn (mid-to-late September) is the window for the most vibrant colors, but the temperature difference between day and night in the forest area is extreme, so a windproof jacket and layered clothing are essential; signal is weak on some sections of the border route, so download offline maps in advance; for photos in the birch forest, wearing red, white, or light khaki stands out the most; avoid wearing all green, or you will blend into the background.🦄🦄

Ergun Wetland Park

I didn't go to the free ones, but I felt that buying a ticket was worthwhile. The weather was good, and the view from the top was really beautiful. Although it was a bit windy, I looked back and forth from the observation deck several times before I was willing to leave.

Inner Mongolia Ergun National Wetland Park

Ergun National Wetland Park boasts expansive views, with wetlands, forests, and rivers interwoven in a pristine ecological environment, offering a soothing vista of greenery. The boardwalks are comfortable for hiking, providing opportunities to observe a rich variety of flora and fauna. The park is large, requiring a considerable amount of time to explore; the best time for photography is in the early morning or late afternoon light.

Mo'erdaoga National Forest Park

It's worth a visit. Take the mini-train first, then drive yourself. The day I went, it was cloudy in the forest, so the photos didn't turn out well, but the scenery was still quite nice. Because it was so cold, we didn't stop much along the way. The drive back to Moerdaoga Town from the exit is 37 kilometers, but the scenery along the way is also beautiful.

White Birch Forest Scenic Spot

Highly recommend this natural scenic area! Although it got cold early this year, and the birch forest leaves had mostly fallen by October, the golden leaves scattered on the ground reflecting the sunlight were still incredibly beautiful. There were also many adorable chipmunks begging for food, and we left a wishing plaque. I can already imagine the beauty of midsummer and golden autumn; I'll definitely come back to experience it again!

Heishantou Hasar Horse Riding Field

It was very beginner-friendly, even for those who had never ridden a horse before. I joined a large group to watch the sunset, and they gave me a brief explanation of the basics before we set off. The horse trainers were also very fun, and we got to try trotting occasionally. The horses were very gentle, and the staff at the stable even helped me mount the horse for photos at the sunset spot. I had a wonderful time riding!

Erguna River·Wulan Mountain Scenic Area

Based on recommendations from online friends, we specifically chose this attraction for our trip. Overall, we had a fantastic experience. The scenic area was beautiful, the air was fresh, the service was excellent, and the facilities were comprehensive. We will definitely recommend it to our friends. Cao Yuan Zai Zhe Li Scenic Area

I opted for the unlimited ride pass, and it was indeed incredibly thrilling! I went three times, definitely worth the price. I was initially worried about being scared, but the experience was anything but. I was even taking tons of photos the whole way. The pass included a round trip on the mini-train, which was a lifesaver. The scenery on the return train was absolutely breathtaking – endless grasslands under blue skies and white clouds – words can't describe it!

The Boundary River is quite beautiful. The boat cruises near the center of the river, very close to the Russian side, allowing for stunning views of both sides. Once on board, you can rent a telescope for a reasonable price, which gives you a clear view of the buildings on the other side. Also, during the cruise, passengers can go up to the second deck in two batches: those who want to see more of the Russian side's buildings are in the first group; those who want to see the Sino-Russian Friendship Bridge are in the second group. After crossing the Sino-Russian Friendship Bridge, the boat turns back, and all passengers must disembark and return to their cabins.

Enhe Russian Ethnic Township

When talking about Inner Mongolia, many people will think of Hulunbuir, but many people don't know that there is a place called Enhe hidden in Hulunbuir. It is a border between China and Russia. Although it is located in the border area, the scenery here is very beautiful. In autumn, the grassland gradually turns yellow, the forest in the distance is windy and surging, the clouds are clear and the air is refreshing, and the mountains are colorful. Moreover, the houses in Enhe are very distinctive, and the exotic cabins really make you feel like you have come to a foreign country in an instant, with a unique style.
