GGuest User: Clean and hygienic, with a comfortable room temperature and smart amenities. The breakfast area is pleasant, and the environment is very new. It's super close to the park, just a three to five-minute walk, and once you're in the park, you can see the river. Russia is on the opposite bank, and the night view is stunning~

GGuest User: The service was enthusiastic, and the hotel is very close to the pedestrian street. The room was also very clean. There were many foreign guests, and it has a self-service laundry room and a gym, which is great. I'll definitely stay here again next time.

NNatali_M: Excellent hotel, located on the main street, close to the promenade, shopping street, and Huafu. The double room was spacious, with a small sofa, kettle, mugs, hairdryer, slippers, dental kit, and snow-white linens and towels. We stayed for three nights, and on the second day, the towels were changed, new amenity sets were provided, and the room was cleaned. It was quiet, and the room didn't smell of smoke. Breakfast was average: rice, vegetables, tofu, sweet and sour pork, pastries, tea, and coffee – not bad, and clean. The reception staff and restaurant staff were polite. Everything was great!

SS4577: We took a self-driving tour in Heihe and stayed at the Holiday Inn European Style Hotel. The staff were very friendly and helped us arrange a room with a clear view of the Russian river. The view was expansive, the room was clean and comfortable, breakfast was included, and there was free parking. It was convenient for getting around, and we could also order Chinese and dinner on the spot. They had both Chinese and Western food, and the food was delicious!

MMargoShamsher: The first things I noticed were the convenient location and how clean the hotel was. I really loved the Lavande scent in the shampoo, body wash and air diffuser — everything smelled so nice and relaxing. The room was very comfortable and quite big, especially the orthopaedic pillows. I also loved the smart home system, especially being able to play music while taking a shower — such a nice little touch! The staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay and would definitely come back!

KKonstantin Lvov: I think the service is standard everywhere where a room costs more than 2,500 rubles per night. It's worth noting that breakfast is included in the price; you can't book a stay at this hotel without it. A 3 for convenience due to the constantly fluctuating water temperature in the shower—you'd think you could set it, but then it's either hot or cold—there's no middle ground. There are air conditioners in the lobby on the first floor, although on the other floors (2nd through 6th floors) they either don't have them or don't turn them on. Breakfast 👍🏻, plenty of seating.

Northeast autumn colors | Yichun—Jiayin—Wudalianchi—Zhalong "Lesser Khingan Mountains + volcano + red-crowned cranes" 5–6 day travel guide Cost per person: CNY 3,750 (based on double occupancy; single occupancy approx. CNY 4,400, excluding round-trip transportation from departure city), 1,398 words total. This hidden gem of a long-distance route in Northeast China connects the vibrant forests of the Lesser Khingan Mountains, the China-Russia border river in Jiayin, the volcanic lava of Wudalianchi, and the red-crowned cranes of Zhalong Wetland, gathering forests, canyons, border rivers, volcanoes, and wetlands in one trip. The best time to travel is from late September to early October, when birch, maple, and larch trees are layered with color. Traveling through the painting-like landscape of Northeast China, it is suitable for photography enthusiasts and friends traveling together for a slow-paced autumn tour. If you have ample time, choose the 6-day, 5-night in-depth version; if time is tight, it can be compressed into a 5-day, 4-night itinerary. D1 | Yichun, encounter Wuhua Mountain and Wudai Highway. Arrive in Yichun and drive to Wudai Highway. Known as the most beautiful forest highway in the Lesser Khingan Mountains, the birch and larch trees on both sides of the road are covered in golden yellow, and the colorful forests extend infinitely along the road. You can stop to take photos at any time along the way and immerse yourself in the panoramic view of Wuhua Mountain. In the evening, check into Yichun city, and for dinner, taste local Northeast forest specialties like stewed chicken with hazel mushrooms and stir-fried wild mountain vegetables, savoring the authentic flavors of the black soil. D2 | Seeking autumn in Maolangou Canyon, heading to Jiayin. Spend the whole day visiting Maolangou, known as the "Little Jiuzhaigou of the North." The rock walls on both sides of the deep canyon are covered with red and yellow autumn leaves, streams gurgle at the bottom of the valley, and waterfalls cascade down from the cliffs. Morning light passes through the valley to form beautiful Tyndall light effects. Wooden boardwalks extend along the canyon, allowing you to stroll and enjoy the autumn scenery. In the afternoon, drive to Jiayin County. In the evening, arrive at the China-Russia border river of the Heilongjiang River. Wait for dusk, when the open river reflects the orange-red sunset, the Russian mountains on the opposite bank form a soft silhouette, and the golden reeds on the shore sway in the wind. You can take a border river cruise to enjoy the scenery on both banks. Stay overnight in Jiayin. D3 | Depart from Jiayin, head to Wudalianchi. In the morning, you can take a walk along the Jiayin River and visit the Dinosaur Geopark to experience Jiayin's heritage as the "Hometown of Dinosaurs." D4 | In-depth exploration of volcanic geology. Spend the whole day playing in the core scenic area of Wudalianchi, visiting the Longmen Stone Village volcanic stone sea. The large area of black lava rocks, combined with autumn plants, creates a strong visual impact. Head to Beiyin Spring to taste natural volcanic cold mineral water and visit the Volcanic Geological Museum to learn about the geological knowledge of volcanic eruptions millions of years ago. In the evening, taste the Wudalianchi specialty iron pot stew, volcanic tofu, and stewed river fish, and feel the rich aroma of Northeast stewed dishes. D5 | Head to Qiqihar, see red-crowned cranes at Zhalong Wetland. In the morning, drive to Zhalong Nature Reserve. After arriving, wait for the red-crowned crane release. In the early morning, golden reed marshes cover the entire wetland, and thin mist shrouds the water surface. The red-crowned cranes spread their wings and take off towards the rising sun, their white feathers gilded by the sunlight. Whether it is a long shot of the flock flying or a close-up of them resting by the water, it is very poetic and is the finale of this journey. In the evening, check into Qiqihar city, and for dinner, try Qiqihar charcoal-grilled meat. D6 | Free time to rest, return trip. In the morning, you can leisurely stroll around the city, purchase local specialties like pine nuts and dried blueberries as souvenirs, and taste Northeast home-cooked dishes like guobaorou (sweet and sour pork) and di san xian (stir-fried potato, green pepper, and eggplant). Smoking in the wild is prohibited, and do not leave the scenic wooden boardwalks at will. There are many curves on Wudai Highway, so night driving is not recommended. There are fixed times for the release of red-crowned cranes at Zhalong, so check the time in advance. It is recommended to book attraction tickets online in advance for a better experience by traveling off-peak.

The Greater Khingan Mountains from our textbooks—September is the best time of year. The first touch of autumn in the country starts igniting from this sea of forests. But honestly, visiting this place with a group tour is a waste. Its beauty is all on the road, and tour buses just shuttle you from the hotel to the attraction entrance. 🍁 🚫 Don't ignore the pitfalls of group tours First, the itinerary is off. Most group tours on the market stick to Harbin and Wudalianchi; they won't take you into the real colorful forests of the northern Greater Khingan Mountains. Second, the Jiamo Highway stretches over 500 km from Jagdaqi to Mohe. The entire road is shaded by larch trees, with endless golden forests along the way. On a group tour, you just flash past it through the window, and you can't ask the bus to stop when you see something beautiful. Third, the schedule is rigid. The morning mist only lasts for that one hour in the morning, and group itineraries can't give you that kind of freedom. ✅ How to enjoy a self-guided trip Flying to Mohe with a layover in Harbin is the most convenient. Day 1: After landing, head to the Jiuqu Shibawan to see the winding river in the morning mist, then stay in Beihong Village. This village is geographically the true northernmost village. Day 2: Head to the First Bay of the Heilongjiang River. The ticket plus sightseeing bus costs CNY 110. The moment you climb the observation deck, the Ω-shaped river bend wrapping around the Arctic Island is ten times more stunning in person than in photos. Day 3: Enter Arctic Village. The ticket is CNY 88. Take your time exploring the birch forests and reindeer park, then drive along the border highway with colorful forests on your left and the border river on your right. 📸 3 must-visit photo spots The First Bay of the Heilongjiang River observation deck for an overhead shot of the Ω-shaped river bend—blue sky paired with golden forests makes every shot a masterpiece. The morning at Jiuqu Shibawan, where mist drifts along the river surface like a glimpse into fairyland. The birch forests in Arctic Village. Go in when the sunlight filters through the trees, and your portraits will be legendary. 🍜 Authentic forest flavors Iron pot stewed river fish—the fish is caught from the Heilongjiang River, lined with corn cakes that soak up the savory broth. Forest mushrooms are delicious in any stew. Blueberry products are everywhere. They're great to eat dried or steeped in water. ⚠️ Honest tips The best time is from mid-to-late September to early October. Overnight, the forest changes its outfit, with layers of golden birch, green pine needles, and red oak leaves. The temperature difference between day and night is significant, so bring a fleece jacket. This year, Mohe and Huzhong have issued tourism vouchers, so save where you can on tickets and hotels. Driving the Jiamo Highway is the best experience, but don't let your fuel tank drop below half. Standing on the observation deck, watching the golden forest stretch to the horizon, you'll agree with me: this trip is meant to be taken on your own. 🌲

Northeast Autumn Photography Guide | 5 Spots for Fairytale-Like Photos Many people ask me where the best spots for autumn photography are in Northeast China. I always say you must visit Changbai Mountain, Red Leaf Valley, Jingpo Lake, Wudalianchi, and Mohe. The autumn in these five places is truly stunning—golden birch forests, fiery red maple leaves, and deep blue lakes that look like scenes from a fairytale. My first photography trip to the Northeast was in late September. The maple leaves had already turned, glowing in the sunlight like a blanket of fire. Heaven Lake at Changbai Mountain was as blue as a gemstone, reflecting the golden birch forests and distant snow-capped mountains—an unforgettable sight. On subsequent trips, I tried different vantage points—mountain tops, lakeside, and deep in the forest. Each offered a unique experience. Today, I’m sharing my top 5 photography spots with you, and I hope this helps. Spot 1: Heaven Lake, Changbai Mountain. Watch the sunrise by the lake in the morning as the sun rises from behind the snow-capped mountains. Golden sunlight spills across the deep blue water, and the golden birch forests along the shore appear and disappear in the morning mist. It’s a beautiful, fairytale-like scene. I recommend using a wide-angle lens to capture the lake, mountains, and birch forests all in one frame. Spot 2: Red Leaf Valley. In autumn, the valley is blanketed in fiery red maple leaves. Sunlight filters through the leaves, creating dappled light and shadows. It’s stunning, like an oil painting. I recommend using a telephoto lens to compress the space and capture the depth of the foliage. It’s also a great spot for portraits—wear a white dress to create a striking contrast against the red leaves. Spot 3: Jingpo Lake. In autumn, the deep blue water reflects the golden birch forests and fiery red maple leaves. At sunset, the Diaoshuilou Waterfall glows golden. It’s beautiful, like an ink wash painting. I recommend using a slow shutter speed to capture the motion of the waterfall and make the lake surface look as smooth as a mirror. Spot 4: Wudalianchi. In autumn, the volcanic landscape glows orange-red in the sunset, surrounded by golden birch forests and fiery red maple leaves. The deep blue lake reflects the volcanoes and forests. It’s stunning, like a scene from a sci-fi movie. I recommend using a wide-angle lens to capture the volcanoes, lake, and forests to emphasize the grandeur of the volcanic landscape. Spot 5: Arctic Village, Mohe. In autumn, golden birch forests and fiery red maple leaves blanket the entire village. The Heilongjiang River flows nearby, and the distant snow-capped mountains glow orange-red at sunset. It’s a beautiful, fairytale-like scene. I recommend shooting in the early morning or evening when the light is soft and the colors are rich. You can also photograph the starry sky; the autumn sky in Mohe is incredibly clear, and the Milky Way is very distinct. Autumn in the Northeast is beautiful but also very cold, with significant temperature differences between day and night. I recommend bringing warm clothing, such as down jackets, windbreakers, and thermal base layers. Also, the UV rays in the Northeast are strong, so remember to bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat. One more tip: the peak tourist season in the Northeast is from mid-September to early October. The maple leaves are stunning, but it gets very crowded, and photography spots can be hard to secure. I recommend arriving early or shooting in the early morning or evening to avoid the crowds. If you prefer fewer people and lower prices, consider visiting in early September or mid-October. This autumn, head to the Northeast for a photography trip. Visit these 5 spots, see the golden birch forests, the fiery red maple leaves, and the deep blue lakes—it’s an experience you won’t forget.

The focus of this route isn't rushing between attractions: the riverside night views of Heihe, the industrial heritage sites of Bei'an, and the volcanic rock formations of Wudalianchi perfectly string together a smooth northward journey of border towns, culture, and geology. It's suitable for two or three friends starting from Harbin or other cities in Northeast China who want a more relaxed drive. 🍂 Start by using Heihe as your first stop to get into the rhythm. Upon arrival, keep your activities within the riverside and downtown areas. Take a walk along the river in the evening and watch the lights illuminate the shoreline. If you want to explore food, head to the night market, but don't assume cross-border travel is included in this trip; related documents and border crossing arrangements should be confirmed separately. Bei'an is worth a full day, as it adds a tangible historical texture to this nature-focused route. The 1945 Theme Block and military industrial heritage sites are better suited for a slow walk to appreciate the architectural details and exhibits. If you aren't interested in historical topics, you can shorten your stay and save the afternoon for your accommodation stop further south. 🧱 The most practical approach for this road trip is to check navigation, weather, and gas stations before setting off each day. The distance from northern Heihe to Wudalianchi shouldn't be turned into a "checklist sprint," especially since the temperature difference between day and night in early autumn is significant. Keeping a warm outer layer in the car is more useful than squeezing in another attraction. 🚗 Once you enter Wudalianchi, start your itinerary with the volcanic geology. The contrast between the black lava, volcanic cones, and lake water is the most intuitive highlight of this UNESCO Global Geopark. For trail selection and daily area openings, refer to the park's daily announcements and on-site guides rather than just following old guides. The mineral spring experience is best enjoyed after the volcanic hike. It's the "slow down" part of this route, so there's no need to package it as a therapeutic project. Bring a cup and pay attention to on-site drinking instructions. If you want to try local food, look for local flavors like mineral spring tofu or mineral spring feasts; specific shops and availability depend on the day. 💧 Don't try to distribute accommodation evenly. One night in Heihe makes it easy to fit the riverside and night market into the same evening. Staying one night in Bei'an avoids crowding heritage site visits and driving together. Stay another night in Wudalianchi so you have flexibility the next day to decide based on the weather whether to hike the volcanic trails or enjoy a relaxing mineral spring experience. For early autumn photography, I recommend saving the early morning for the black rocks and water surface of Wudalianchi. Don't cancel if it's cloudy; the cloud cover can actually enhance the layers of the volcanic landscape. It's windy at night in Heihe, and you'll need to watch your footing on gravel paths in the scenic area. If you are traveling with elderly people or those with average physical stamina, simply reduce the walking routes. 🌬️ Do only three things before setting off: double-check Wudalianchi scenic area openings and reservations, check road weather, and confirm vehicle supplies. Night markets and performances are not guaranteed. This 4-day route is suitable for those who want to see something different in Northeast China during early autumn: read the volcanoes by day, and return to a bustling atmosphere by evening. 🌙

I was squatting by the crater of Laoheshan Volcano, biting on an old popsicle, when an elderly man nearby asked me, "Miss, aren’t you afraid? There’s still something sleeping down there." Indeed, the last eruption was in 1721 AD, just about 300 years ago. The black lava beneath my feet still looks like it’s bubbling, solidified into a vast sea of stone. How to describe this feeling? It’s like standing on a stove that was just turned off—still hot to the touch. 🌋 How to avoid pitfalls when visiting Fly into Harbin Taiping Airport, then transfer to the high-speed train to Wudalianchi Station, about a 3-hour journey in total. In 2025, the scenic area launched a direct shuttle bus for 40 yuan per person, which you can catch right after exiting the station, taking you straight to the scenic town. But I recommend driving yourself—rent a car from Qiqihar and it’s about a 3-hour drive. Parking in the scenic area is free, and driving between attractions takes about ten minutes, much more flexible than waiting for buses. There are also bus routes 1 and 2 from the train station to the scenic area for 2 yuan, but the last bus is very early, so if you miss it, you’ll have to take a taxi. 🔥 Laoheshan — a must-visit first stop Tickets are 78 yuan, sightseeing bus 25 yuan—don’t skip the bus fee, walking up is really tiring. Laoheshan is the youngest dormant volcano in China. The entire scenic area includes Laoheshan itself, the Stone Sea, Huoshaoshan, Shiyuan, and the Jet Cone and Jet Disc zones, which take about 3 hours to explore fully. The boardwalk around the crater is the highlight, a 40-minute loop where you can see various lava formations like ropy lava, pahoehoe lava, and crawling lava. Yesterday, I compared photos I took in Iceland last year, and honestly, the Stone Sea at Laoheshan is just as impressive as Iceland’s. Don’t skip the Stone Sea, located at the foot of Laoheshan. The black lava plateau stretches for several kilometers, and when the wind blows, it whistles—great for photos. Huoshaoshan is worth a quick look but isn’t as stunning as Laoheshan. 💧 Wenbo — the volcanic version of Jiuzhaigou Tickets are 45 yuan, and you can tour it in about an hour. Wenbo features three scenic spots: Jingbo, Bibo, and Libo. You can see fish and aquatic plants underwater, and the water temperature stays around 14°C year-round, so it never freezes in winter. Taking a boat through the reed beds is very pleasant. The boat captain doesn’t talk much but occasionally shares some local jokes that are quite funny. ⛰️ Longmen Shizhai — an underrated powerhouse Many people skip this, but I don’t think they should. Huge lava plateaus form giant stone walls, resembling an ancient castle. Climbing up offers excellent views. It’s included for free in the combo ticket, so don’t miss it. 🫧 Beiyao Spring — drink volcanic mineral water directly Tickets are 20 yuan, bring your own cup! The spring water contains iron and tastes a bit rusty. Locals call it "holy water." The hot springs are also in this area, with carbonated mineral water that leaves your skin feeling smooth after soaking. By the way, don’t rinse off with clean water afterward—let the minerals stay on your skin a while longer. 🌅 Bailong Lake — best visited at dusk Free entry after 6 PM. The boardwalk circles the lake, and at sunset, the water turns a fiery orange-red, with the silhouette of the volcano looming darkly across the lake, creating an amazing atmosphere. 📍 Quick practical info → Large temperature difference between day and night in summer; short sleeves during the day, light jacket at night → Wear non-slip shoes in the volcanic rock area; no sandals → Combo tickets are more cost-effective; book in advance on platforms → The scenic town is small with limited dining options; mineral fish and mineral spring tofu are specialties → Mineral water is sold everywhere for 2-5 yuan a bottle, with little taste difference Here’s something crazy: I bought a small volcanic stone souvenir at the scenic area entrance, and after placing it on my desk for three days, I found it actually attracts iron... the magnetic field is really strong. 📌 Two-day itinerary suggestion Day 1: Laoheshan + Stone Sea (morning) → Wenbo (afternoon) → Bailong Lake for sunset (evening) Day 2: Longmen Shizhai (morning) → Beiyao Spring for drinking and soaking (noon) → Yaoquan Mountain + Erlongyan Spring (afternoon) Yaoquan Mountain is the smallest of the fourteen volcanoes, and it takes about 20 minutes to reach the summit. There’s a Zhongling Zen Temple halfway up, built inside the crater—a rare combination. Erlongyan Spring is nearby, with two springs side by side, free to visit. Accommodation 🏨 Wudalianchi Xinquanshan Hot Spring Hotel Located in the center of the scenic area, with its own hot spring pool. After a full day, soaking in volcanic mineral water makes your legs feel brand new. Great value for a scenic area hotel. 🏨 Wudalianchi Hot Spring International Hotel Right next to Bailong Lake, with views of the dammed lake from the window. Over twenty outdoor hot spring pools to soak in until you don’t want to get up—perfect for those wanting to fully relax. 🏨 Tianyuan Hot Spring Hotel (Wudalianchi Scenic Area Wenbo Scenic Spot Branch) Garden-style mixed with farmhouse charm, a 10-minute walk from Wenbo. Rated as a top rural tourism farmhouse in China, down-to-earth but not rough. 🏨 Wudalianchi Marriott Mingyuan Business Hotel Located on the main road in the scenic town, with relatively new facilities. Good choice if you don’t want to stay too far out, and convenient for dining. ——
The adorable deer in the deer park and the incredibly high levels of negative ions in the forest park made this trip full of joy and relaxation. The driver was warm, polite, and humorous, picking us up and dropping us off at the attractions on time. A happy and enjoyable journey! 👍
Anonymous userSeeing the volcanic rock formations was a fun and educational experience. The birch leaves turn a beautiful golden yellow in autumn. The path is a wooden boardwalk, flat and gentle, making it easy to walk. Overall, the experience was quite pleasant.
huiluogaoWudalianchi is a key scenic spot in 2026. The whole visit takes about an hour and a half. Enter from the East Gate, walk to the middle pier, take a boat to the West Gate, and then take a shuttle bus back to the East Gate.
Anonymous userThe Sino-Russian Ethnic Culture Park, nestled against the backdrop of mountains and the banks of the Heilongjiang River, offers stunning scenery. The park features five distinct ethnic groups, and the Russian-style architecture of Chekhov Street and the Northeastern Yangge dance performed by Russian girls are among its highlights. The film and television studio is also quite unique, though some of the buildings are in disrepair.
Anonymous userI caught the tail end of the National Day holiday and received a complimentary double ticket to Aoneng Pool on October 7th. Since only the indoor pool is open this season, the lack of outdoor facilities made it less fun than Aoneng. The butler, Nian Gao, was very thoughtful, coordinating birthday arrangements and providing special birthday benefits for the three days before and after my birthday. The lady I met during the event, Youzi, was incredibly friendly and approachable; you could tell she was dedicated to serving every customer, making for a very pleasant experience.
M31***28Perhaps we came at the wrong time; the Wenbo Scenic Area was closed due to flooding from rain. Those interested in geology might want to check it out. The scenery is unique, featuring a volcanic crater, rocks, and a crater lake.
202***27Overall, it's a good experience; the scenery is nice, but it's a bit far from Heihe city center, and public transportation isn't very convenient. Walking along the wooden boardwalk, three hours should be enough for the whole trip.
E05***31It was a truly fascinating boat trip. The dock was easy to find, close to popular Heihe attractions, and the boats departed frequently, making the tickets convenient and affordable! From the dock, the boat journey continued downstream along the Heilongjiang River, a 40-minute round trip. The boat was equipped with binoculars, which provided stunning views and a clear view of Russian buildings and people on the other side.
M42***79There are not many places in China that can really be called ancient cities. Most of them are remodeled and imitated in the past. One history that you must not forget when you come to Anhui is the history of the Qing Dynasty. Therefore, there are various stories related to the Qing Dynasty in the ancient cities of Anhui. Compared with the humanistic stories one after another, I prefer the natural landscape and the buildings built in the later period.
山在穷游Patriotism education base, the Treaty of Nerchinsk and the Treaty of Aihui both came from here. Never forget the national humiliation, love the motherland
Feng xiBased on Trip.com user data, Recommended sightseeing time: 3–4 day(s), allowing you to cover the main attractions while enjoying shopping, dining, and other experiences.
