"This might be the highest hot spring hotel in Gero. If you miss the shuttle, it's quite a walk uphill. The hotel is divided into the old wing and the new wing. The old wing has a lot of mosquitoes and poor soundproofing, while the new wing, though newer, lacks some of the old wing's charm. We stayed in the new wing with a private hot spring, but it was extremely small; the photos on Trip.com can be misleading."

"I chose this hotel because of its location and how nice the room looked, which turned out to exceed my expectations. I had an exceptional experience staying here. It’s less than a 5-minute walk from Takayama Station. We arrived quite early—several hours before check-in—but were able to store our luggage. The check-in process itself was smooth. The room we reserved felt more like an apartment-style hotel room. It was very spacious, with plenty of room to move around. I liked how the furniture was arranged; everything was well-maintained, clean, and tidy. The beds were large, and I especially appreciated that they provided four pillows each—I slept very comfortably. I also loved the balcony. My friend and I spent hours there, watching cars and trains come and go, as well as people walking by. The facilities and amenities were exactly as advertised in the Services & Amenities section. Out of my recent two-week trip, this accommodation was the place I enjoyed the most."

"To be honest considering this has a 4 star rating I'm a bit disappointed. Generally speaking it is a nice place but there are small things that are lacking compared to other similar Onsen Hotels at the same price. For example they don't provide a basket to go to the onsen but only a cheap plastic bag. The Hotel itself is very old but well maintained and at least the general spaces use nice materials and decoration. Once you reach the room it becomes worse. The materials used in the room are very cheap (Vinyl Floor, Cheap Wallpaper that was put on very poorly). Some aspects of the room have been refurnished, like the sink but most of it seems to be original from the 60s-80s. The bathtub and Toilet are retro models. The Onsen baths are a mixed bag - the one on the third floor with Wood ceiling seems to be the newest and is the best of the three. The other two (panorama and first floor) are in dire need of refurbishing. They seem in very bad condition and extremly old. The worst part (for me) was the Breakfast. 90% of the selection was japanese Style (and even that seemed poor). Western Options were only Pancakes, French Toast (which was good at least) and a few sad pieces of low quality bread with condiments. They didn't even have a coffee machine!!! Only pre-brewed coffee that tasted like water."

"Sakura Guest House is a hidden gem in Takayama. I stayed here for 4 consecutive nights. I arrived at Takayama Station by local train from Toyama, transferring at Inotani Station, a journey of about 2 hours in total, costing 1690 yen. From the East Exit of Takayama Station, I turned left and walked straight along the main road for about 700 meters, reaching the guesthouse in about 10 minutes. From the guesthouse, it's a walkable distance to tourist attractions like Miyagawa Morning Market, the historical preservation area of Machiya, Takayama Jinya, Jinya Morning Market, Hachiman-gu Shrine's grand torii gate, and Higashiyama Walking Course. It's also convenient to take the Nohi Bus to destinations like Shirakawa-go, Kamikochi, and Shinhotaka. I stayed in a mixed dormitory bunk bed on the second floor, which has 10 beds. The bedding was soft and comfortable. The entire guesthouse is clean and beautiful, with complete facilities, including a drying area. There are 4 spacious shower rooms on the first floor, and a total of 4 women's restrooms on both the first and second floors. The first floor also has a communal lounge and a common kitchen equipped with an induction cooker, refrigerator, microwave, oven, kettle, tea bags, and coffee. You can buy ingredients at a nearby large supermarket and cook your own meals. On the second floor, there's a coin-operated washing machine (300 yen per wash) and a dryer (100 yen for 20 minutes). What was truly touching and memorable was how exceptionally gentle and friendly the owners were. Their service was incredibly thoughtful and warm. Despite me not knowing English or Japanese, they patiently explained everything to me using a translator, constantly emphasizing that I should feel free to approach them with any questions. My bottom bunk (bed C) didn't have a privacy panel at the head of the bed, which I felt lacked privacy and caused disturbance when others came to this corner to retrieve their luggage. When I raised this issue with the owner, he immediately found cardboard and taped it up, allowing me to sleep peacefully. I felt very safe and warm because of this. This guesthouse is the best place to stay when traveling solo in Takayama, offering excellent value for money. I had a wonderful and pleasant trip here. I absolutely love Takayama and will definitely return to stay here again. See you next time!”"

"Easy to access- just confirm online to get details to get into hotel. They lock the hotel at 10pm for safety purpose. Location is good to get to other destination. A short drive to the local popular areas. Kombini just opposite and if need others, walking distance. Cleanliness is okay, no issues. Spacious enough for our 4 luggages to open. Hanging area abit small but small issue. There is washing machine in the room. Mini kitchen area and microwave oven available also. Room wifi is available which is excellent as we stayed on the highest floor and lobby wifi is too far away. Thank you, enjoyed our stay! Enjoyed our stay, thank you!"
