Love this hotel. Location is fantastic. Just next to the Kumamoto train, tram and bus station. Booked the lifestyle room, with 2 double bed and a sofa bed for 3 adults and comes with access to 4th floor for unlimited liquor, soft drinks, juice, tea, nuts and instant noodles.
However, orange juice ran out on 3rd day and dispenser dispense super diluted juice. Anyway small matter.
Toilet area is big (comparing to Japan standard), with split toilet, bathroom, wash basin, wardrobe and change area. Interestingly with see-through bathroom door. However, you can lock the entire toilet access.
Room is clean and bed is comfortable.
Price is also reasonable.
We had a great stay at Kamenoi Hotel Aso Park. We booked a room in the South Building, which was spacious, clean, and had a large, comfortable bed. The hotel provides yukata robes in various colors, which was a lovely touch for guests to enjoy the onsen experience.
♨️ The onsen was large and relaxing — perfect after a day of exploring Aso.
🚗 Parking was very convenient, located right next to the hotel. Just across the parking area, there’s a 24-hour convenience store called Obentou Hirai offering ready-made bentos, hot meals, ramen, and udon — extremely convenient for late-night snacks or quick meals.
🍱 We chose a room-only package without meals, and in the morning, we visited the local souvenir and food center at Aso Station. It had a great selection of local foods and breakfast options, plus plenty of gifts and souvenirs to bring home.
Overall, a comfortable stay with everything we needed nearby. Highly recommended if you’re exploring the Aso area!
Staff were nice, a couple of them speaks English well. Our twin room with sofa bed was adequate. Sofa bed has seen better times n can feel the springs, not for someone who is on heavy side. Location of hotel is good. We love the hair dryer, Refa brand, top notch. Parking cost ¥1000 per night. Just behind is the shopping street and ard 15 mins walk is a big shopping mall, Sakura Machi. Kumamoto Castle can be seen opposite the hotel but if walking is still not so near. We decided to check out of hotel and drove to the castle. There are a few parking lots near to the castle but some need to walk longer.
Very nice hotel. The rooms are cozy, they give you a yukata, all the necessary accessories. Breakfast is good, and dinner is absolutely magnificent - unlimited sushi, fruits, meat, delicious desserts and ice cream. A mountain river flows under the windows. Excellent home onsen of two types - I liked the open one. Shower only in the onsen. They took you to the bus stop. You can pour excellent coffee in the lobby. I liked everything very much!
I had an enchanting two-night stay at this hotel, where the picturesque view of the river from my room added a serene touch to the experience. The included breakfast and dinner were nothing short of fantastic, offering a delightful journey through Japanese cuisine. The attentive service further elevated my stay.
The onsen was a highlight, boasting a spacious interior and a tranquil outdoor area. The immersion in the calming waters was a rejuvenating experience, and the overall ambiance added a profound sense of relaxation to my stay. Highly recommend for those seeking a blend of natural beauty, exceptional food, and attentive service.
Before coming to Kumamoto, I noticed that some hotels here were a bit small and old. After comparing a few, I decided to go with the long-established local brand, Nikko Hotel, and it turned out to be a very wise choice! The hotel is right in the city center, directly opposite Tsuruya Department Store. Pedestrian streets like Shimotori and Ginza-dori are just a few minutes' walk away, lined with countless restaurants, izakayas, bars, and drugstores. Although the hotel has been around for some time, it's very well-maintained and clean, clearly showing the elegance of a classic high-end hotel. Both the rooms and shower areas are quite spacious. For breakfast, you have two options: a Japanese-style meal on the 7th floor or a buffet on the 2nd floor, which offers a rich variety of delicious dishes. The concierge was exceptionally helpful and polite, assisting with Shinkansen schedules and calling taxis. They even kept bowing until we got into the car.
This is our second time staying at FAV Hotel, and the overall experience was very pleasant. Firstly, the room design is very modern, giving it a comfortable feel. The interior color palette primarily uses warm tones, complemented by wooden decor, creating a cozy atmosphere.
The room's layout is also very practical. The bunk bed design is especially suitable for family travelers; children can play on them, making it easier for parents. Additionally, the beds are extremely comfortable, ensuring we had a good night's sleep.
In terms of space, the room is exceptionally spacious, and it provides plenty of charging ports.
The room is equipped with a kitchenette and a washing machine, which is extremely convenient. The only minor drawback is the limited parking, with only three spaces available. However, there's a nearby parking lot which costs just 600 yen for the whole night. Furthermore, there's a convenience store within a one-minute walk.
In summary, I was extremely satisfied with the design, comfort, and convenience of the rooms at this hotel. Highly recommended for family travelers!
An extremely excellent hotel.
All the staff have excellent attitudes. They take the initiative to pick up luggage, park the car, deliver luggage to the room, and introduce the facilities in the room. They are friendly and attentive.
The dinner has a seafood theme, a feast of abalone, octopus, and seafood. The food is excellent and the restaurant is elegantly decorated.
The bathroom in the room is huge, check out at 11:00, and the bathhouse is open for 18 hours, which is very considerate.
The view from the room and bathhouse is excellent.
The hotel's service was really good, but the facilities are seriously outdated. At ¥1200 per night without breakfast, I expected a much better stay. My biggest complaint is that the duvet didn't have a cover, only a sheet placed over it for hygiene, which made sleeping very uncomfortable. I didn't sleep well the first two nights, and by the third night, I couldn't stand it anymore. I talked to the hotel, and they finally provided a duvet with a cover, allowing me to get a good night's sleep. This definitely doesn't meet four-star room standards. As for the location, it's convenient enough to get to Kumamoto Castle by tram. However, there aren't many dining options around the hotel, making it inconvenient to eat out. I'd recommend the hotel's lunch buffet, which offers great value for money. If you're staying here, I suggest adding breakfast to your booking, as finding places to eat nearby is difficult.
The picturesque scenery and outdoor onsen were delightful. The stay with dinner and breakfast included was absolutely fantastic value for money. Dinner was incredibly generous, and there was a wide variety of options for breakfast too. They even provided fireworks for the kids! My only slight complaint was that the air conditioning wasn't quite cold enough for my liking, but I still managed to sleep comfortably.

GGuest UserThe hotel room was very spacious and clean. Our room faced the east and just next to the sea, so we could watch the sunset with sea view; it was very beautiful!
There are men & women salt baths available for guests on the ground floor. There are ample car parking lots.
Had breakfast just next to the sea! The spread was quite good with salad, rice, few local dishes, fish, soup, natto, etc. Dinner set meals with fish/sashimi were really fresh and delicious.
We had a peaceful and happy stay. Staff were friendly, attentive and warm too. I was surprised to receive a souvenir when I check out!
AAnonymous UserOur stay at the ryokan was nothing short of amazing! From the moment we stepped in, we were welcomed with warm hospitality and a beautiful blend of traditional charm and modern comforts. The tatami rooms were spacious and immaculately clean, with a calming ambiance that made it easy to unwind. We also loved the small touches, like the yukata robes provided for guests and the attentive staff who made sure we were comfortable at all times. The whole experience felt like a perfect balance of tradition and luxury.
GGuest UserWhen we checked in, we were greeted and served with a welcome dessert and Japanese tea. The room was big in Japanese context with a split-level design and a courtyard. The room has all the amenities you would expect. We liked the settings of the ”talking room”, in which light music was played in the background. There are also coffee and tea available in the ”talking room”. Breakfast and dinner were truly delicious. Perhaps, the only downside is that the size of the onsen hot tub in the room is a bit small.
