. A wildly popular syndicated columnist best known for his booger jokes, Barry won the 1988 Pulitzer Prize for commentary. He lives in Miami.
Paul Levine
is the author of the “Jake Lassiter” and “Solomon vs. Lord” series of legal thrillers. In “Midnight Burning,” his forthcoming novel, Albert Einstein and Charlie Chaplin uncover a Nazi plot to assassinate Hollywood’s biggest stars and ignite an insurrection. The real-life friends strike back with nothing but their ingenuity, raw courage, and the fierce resolve of Georgia Ann Robinson, LAPD’s first Black female officer. He has previously interviewed Kristin Hannah, Malcolm Gladwell, Scott Turow and Dave Barry for us.
How does the son of a Presbyterian minister wind up winning a Pulitzer Prize for writing a wildly inaccurate newspaper column read by millions of people? In
Class Clown
, Dave takes us on a hilarious ride, detailing his non-linear ascent to fame. Come laugh as he tells us how, during his long tenure as a syndicated humor columnist, he alienated a vast army of Neil Diamond fans and the entire state of Indiana.
Class Clown
isn’t just a memoir; it’s a vibrant celebration of a life rich with humor, absurdity, joy, and sadness. Dave says the most important wisdom imparted by his Midwestern parents was never to take anything too seriously. This laughter-filled book is proof that he learned that lesson well. Long-time fans of Live Talks know Dave has a special place in our hearts: We launched our series many moons ago with Dave (interviewed by none other than Jane Smiley.)

An Evening with Mayim Bialik: Teen Mental Health Crisis is Our Crisis Too | Sinai Temple
May 22, 2025 (UTC-7)ENDED
City of Los Angeles
Mayim Bialik is an award-winning actress, podcast host, neuroscientist, author, and mental health advocate. Join us as Mayim and her partner, Jonathan Cohen, record an episode for their podcast,
Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown
, as well as answer questions from our Senior Rabbi, Rabbi Nicole Guzik.
Why Mayim Bialik is Captivating Audiences:
Mayim Bialik delivers engaging and deeply personal talks on mental health, drawing from her own experiences, as well as her expertise as a neuroscientist. With honesty and empathy, she shares insights into the complexities of mental well-being — debunking common myths and stigmas, promoting self-care strategies, and advocating for accessible mental health resources for all. Her unique perspective as both an advocate and a scientist brings a profound depth to her message, inspiring audiences to prioritize mental wellness and support others in their mental health journeys.
A product of Jewish Federation scholarships, Bialik stands firmly rooted in her Jewish heritage and values, straddling the worlds of both traditional religious observance and progressive social justice initiatives. An in-demand speaker among federations, synagogues, and college Jewish organizations she shares how this commitment to her faith has shaped her life and career in an increasingly secular world. Her experiences as a Jewish community leader date back to her college days and exemplify her long-standing connection to the Jewish people and dedication to making a positive impact as a proud and vocal Jewish woman.
The Sinai Temple Mental Health Center is generously underwritten by a gift from the Fredric D. Rosen and Nadine Schiff-Rosen Family Foundation.
This program is made possible by a gift for youth programming from Dr. Farhad Melamed.
