LIVE ZOOM: Civil Lawsuit Basics: How to Bring a Motion in Court | Law Library
Sep 25, 2025 (UTC-7)
City of Los Angeles
--- ZOOM INFORMATION WILL BE EMAILED TO REGISTRANTS PRIOR TO CLASS START TIME FOR CLASSES HELD VIA ZOOM---
A motion is how you request that a court require someone to do something in your lawsuit. Motions are made to obtain many types of orders: to postpone a trial to a later date, to modify an order for child support, to get a judgment without going to trial, to get a rehearing or a new trial, or for sanctions when a party breaks the rules (just to name a few). A motion for any of these orders can have a huge impact on your case. This class is intended to give an overview of how motions work in California state court and the rules of procedure that apply to making, filing, and serving and opposing motions.
Class covers:
· What a motion is and why a motion may be important to your case
· When a motion is appropriate
· What is included in a motion
· How to get a motion on calendar and rules regarding service, filing and proper notice
· Requirements for “ex parte” (emergency) and oral motions, and when each of these is appropriate
Class approved for Court Interpreter Minimum Continuing Education (CIMCE) credit.

David Lynch's MULHOLLAND DRIVE (2001)– Live Performance by Rebekah Del Rio! | Philosophical Research Society
Jun 14, 2025 (UTC-7)ENDED
City of Los Angeles
A love story in the city of dreams . . .
Perhaps no other LA film is so steeped in the mythos and mystery of our complex city and its spectres of burning hopes and broken dreams as
David Lynch
's
MULHOLLAND DRIVE
(2001). As part of
YesterdayLA,
the Philosophical Research Society’s monthlong exploration of Los Angeles history, 7th House Screenings is proud to present the late master's
enigmatic dream logic masterpiece,
one of the most monumental works of 21st Century cinema and one of the greatest Los Angeles films ever made.
This special screening will be
accompanied by an appearance and performance by the film's Club Silencio "Llorando" chanteuse, Rebekah Del Rio
!
Blonde Betty Elms (Naomi Watts) has only just arrived in Hollywood to become a movie star when she meets an enigmatic brunette with amnesia (Laura Harring). Meanwhile, as the two set off to solve the second woman’s identity, filmmaker Adam Kesher (Justin Theroux) runs into ominous trouble while casting his latest project. Of its plot, The New York Times's A.O. Scott wrote, "Its tangled story will be experienced by some as an offense against narrative order, but the film is an intoxicating liberation from sense, with moments of feeling all the more powerful for seeming to emerge from the murky night world of the unconscious."
Lynch’s seductive and scary vision of Los Angeles’s dream factory is one of the true masterpieces of the new millennium, a tale of love, jealousy, and revenge like no other. Do not miss your chance to see this shadowy, "poisonous valentine to Hollywood" in one of the city's oldest centers for esoteric mysteries – replete with an unforgettable performance by
Rebekah Del Rio
!
Dir. David Lynch, 2001, 146 mins, United States, English, Rated R, Digital.
TICKETS: $12 (In Person Event Only)
Please email events@prs.org or phone 323-663-2167 with any questions.
This evening's guest, Rebekah Del Rio

The
44th Los Angeles Lotus Festival
celebrates the people and cultures of The Republic of Korea.
Jinju Namgang Yudeung, also known as the Jinju Lantern Festival, is the tradition of floating lanterns on the Namgang River. This dates back to the 1500's when the people of Jinju would light lanterns wishing for a safe return of their family memebers during the Japanese invasion. Today the festival continues in memory of those soldiers who died serving their country. They aslo symbolize hope and unity, and how the Korean people overcome adversity during the war.
The Lights of Dream Festival is our adaptationof the Korean Jinju Lantern Festival, and features beautiful rice paper lanterns and custom-made lotus lanterns. In Asian cultures, illuminated paper lanterns symbolize our hope for a brighter future, appreciation for our loved ones, and memories of those who passed away; while lotus lanterns represent rebirth, purity and life.
Throughout our event; we hope to create an incredible experience that brings families and friends together to celebrate the meaning of life and spread hope, peace and dreams.

The first fireworks display will light up the sky at 9pm, followed by a grand finale at the stroke of midnight (or a minute before, to be exact). The best part? You don't need to break the bank to enjoy this breathtaking show. While the fireworks will be launched near Burton Chace Park, offering a family-friendly "glow party" from 7pm to midnight, you can find a prime spot along the water and witness the magic for free. Plus, with the restaurants boasting harbor views, you can indulge in a delicious meal while enjoying the dazzling display. Just be sure to arrive early to secure your spot, as this event is sure to draw a crowd. Don't miss out on the opportunity to welcome the new year with a bang at Marina del Rey New Year’s Eve Fireworks!
