San Francisco Singles Online Trivia Night - A Fun Speed Dating Alternative | San Francisco

May 27, 2025 (UTC-7)
San Francisco
Cultural Experiences
** FOR SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA SINGLES ** Get ready for a fun night of trivia on Zoom with other singles in your area! Grab some snacks or even a cocktail and come try out the singles event that's the perfect way to make new social connections. Let's face it, we're all tired of the endless swiping on dating apps and interacting with people who may or may not look like or be like the person they're portraying on the apps. A Singles Trivia Night is a much better way to meet someone because you actually get to interact with people on video (Zoom) before committing to a real life date. This is the safest and best way to meet someone! WE DO THESE EVENTS EVERY 2 MONTHS OR SO AND WE SLIGHTLY CHANGE UP THE AGE RANGE FOR EACH EVENT. CHECK OUR UPCOMING SCHEDULE BELOW TO SEE THE AGE RANGES FOR EACH EVENT DATE. THE AGE RANGES ARE ONLY SUGGESTED MEANING THAT IF YOU'RE WITHIN A FEW YEARS OF THE AGE RANGE YOU'RE WELCOME TO ATTEND: *************************************************************** *************************************************************** SCHEDULE: TUESDAY MAY 27 - SUGGESTED AGE RANGE: 30s, 40s & 50s TUESDAY JULY 22 - SUGGESTED AGE RANGE: 20s & 30s TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 16 - SUGGESTED AGE RANGE: 30s & 40s *************************************************************** *************************************************************** HOW THE EVENT WORKS: Our friendly host will welcome everyone and then you'll be put on a team with other singles from your area. We will have about 3 different cities on at the same time but we make sure to put you on a team with people from your city. You will work with your team to answer fun trivia questions and compete with singles from the other 2 cities in attendance. In each round you'll go into breakout rooms where you'll get to meet, chat with and come up with your trivia question answers with the other singles in attendance (you're never put on the spot having to come up with an answer on your own... you'll always be able to consult with the group before answering so it's very low pressure, laid back and fun). At the end of the event you'll be given contact info of the people you'd like to stay in touch with (as platonic friends to hang out with or as potential dating partners). THIS IS THE PERFECT EVENT TO.... Find that special someone! Make new friends in your area! Meet other like minded singles! Meet some fun wingmen and/or wingwomen! Meet new activity partners in your area! Expand your social circle! Once you sign up, you'll be given a link to join a group of other singles via video on Zoom. All you need is a laptop, phone or tablet to take part in the event. You'll enjoy an evening of fun trivia. We balance the questions making sure there are plenty of different topics and difficulty levels so everyone will have a good time. Our friendly host will be with you live on Zoom orchestrating the most fun trivia event you've ever been to! STAY IN TOUCH WITH ANYONE YOU MEET! At the end of the event all of the attendees are invited to put their email address in the chat box to the event host. The event host will then send an email to all attendees containing everyone's email address so you can contact whomever you'd like. If you're not comfortable putting your "every day" email address you can use an alternative email address or you can make another email address to use for the event. Yahoo, Outlook and Gmail allow you create several free email addresses and setting one up takes about 3 minutes. Then after the event you can feel free to email any people you'd like to see again. If people email you it's up to you if you'd like to reply to them. EVENT DETAILS: About 85% of people sign up by themself so don't worry if you're coming on alone! Our host will make introductions and put you on a team with other singles from your city! It's a fantastic way to meet new people and we've witnessed countless friendships formed and love connections sparked at this event. You're never put on the spot to come up with answers... you'll be working with your team to answer the questions. You'll answer great trivia questions in all of your favorite categories like pop culture, history, entertainment (music, movies & TV), arts & literature, science and more. The winning team gets a prize! * We have several unique rounds of trivia which keeps it really fun and exciting. Some rounds are like traditional trivia nights (simply answering trivia questions), other rounds are totally unique and change at each event. Sometimes we may show you a series of photos and ask you trivia questions about the photos, other times we play games like "Reverse Family Feud" where you'd have to guess the least popular answers to our question (it's soooo much fun!), or sometimes we'll play a "Find The Common Link" game where you'll have to answer some questions and figure out the common link between all the answers like this: Question #1: A Tomato Based Dip Question #2: A High Stakes Scenario Might Be Described As Make-Or-What? Questions #3: The 2005 Film About Johnny Cash Is "Walk The _________"? Question #4: What German-Austrian Actor's Breakout Role Came In Quentin Tarantino's Film Inglourious Basterds? Answers: #1: Salsa #2: Break #3: Line #4: Cristoph Waltz You and your team would have to first answer the questions and then figure out that the common link between the answers is "Dance". * QUICK NOTE: THERE ARE LIMITED SPOTS AVAILABLE FOR THIS EVENT SO SIGN UP ASAP TO MAKE SURE YOU GET A SPOT * WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT THE EVENT: "I love trivia and this was one of the most exciting trivia nights I've ever been to. It's a better way to meet someone than the dating apps." - Robert N. "As a busy professional, I just don't have time to get out and meet people as much as I'd like so this event was like a Godsend for me. It was a refreshingly fantastic experience." - Jennifer S. "What a fabulous concept. I met some great people and I started dating someone I met at the event." - Hannah M. "I met some really cool people. Such a fun way to spend an evening and home." - Lauren C.. "The questions were unique and interesting. Thanks for organizing such a great event!" - Charlene S. **** WIN PRIZES!! **** ************************* WE ALSO HAVE DIFFERENT THEMED EVENTS FOR SINGLES IN SAN FRANCISCO ON DIFFERENT DATES THAT YOU CAN CHECK OUT AT THIS LINK: https://friendzyevents.com/calendar.html : ************************* FAQ: If I have a friend that wants to join as well can you put us on the same team? While most people come on by themself, just message the host when you hop on Zoom and let her know that you'd like to be on the same team as your friend If I attended a past event with you, can I sign up for this one? Yes, In fact we never use repeat questions feel free to sign up with as many of our upcoming events as you'd like! How do I join the event? After you sign up on to Eventbrite we will send you a link with an invitation to join the event on Zoom. We'll send you that link by the day of the event. If for some reason you don't see an email from us by the event date, make sure to check your spam folder in case it ended up there by accident. How long does the event last? One hour and 45 miutes How many will be participating? We expect between 15 and 30 people (it varies from event to event). Is there a refund policy? If you need to cancel, please email us and we can transfer you to a future event. However we do not offer transfers if you cancel on the day of the event or don't show up. WHY THIS EVENT WORKS! For many years we organized in person traditional speed dating events. While waiting for everyone to show up, the host would do some trivia questions as icebreakers to "kill time" until everyone arrived. We noticed something fascinating begin to happen. People got to know each other better and made more connections during the trivia than they did during the actual speed dating rounds! The trivia questions sparked so much conversation that we thought, "Wow, we should make an entire event like this!". And that is how our Singles Trivia Night was started! THESE EVENTS WILL LIKELY SELL OUT BY EVENT TIME AND WE HAVE LIMITED SPOTS AVAILABLE AT EACH EVENT SO GRAB YOUR TICKET ASAP! Information Source: Fun Events | eventbrite

Living Wisdom with Michael McDonald | The Center SF

May 29, 2025 (UTC-7)
San Francisco
Cultural Experiences
“All we are is peace, love, and wisdom, and the power to create the illusion that we are not.” – Jack Pransky You have an inner knowing, something that is beyond your intellect, beyond your habits, beyond your circumstances. It’s always there guiding you, sometimes seemingly too quiet to hear over the noise. Culturally and psychologically it’s been ignored, misunderstood, and mistrusted – but it’s still there. It’s alive with possibility, and even though it is unpredictable it is 100% reliable. And amazing things are possible when you start to live from that space, when you let go of what has become normal to rediscover your nature… Living Wisdom is a transformative conversation. Through a mix of teaching, discussion, and experience this event is an invitation to insight – to see more clearly. Problems don’t look so problematic, you know what to do when it’s time, and you begin living an inspired life. This is an introductory group format for the kind of advanced work I’ve been doing with coaching clients over the last decade. In this workshop we’ll experience and explore: * The value of insight over problem-solving * The ‘Ladder of Consciousness’ * The two orientations of the mind * The nature of Wisdom * The inside-out nature of our experience $30 early bird // $35 day of About Michael McDonald: Michael McDonald is a transformational coach for entrepreneurs and executives, helping them flourish with more ease, authenticity, and inspiration. His style has been described as part Mr Rogers, part Inception. He is the creator of Relational Alchemy, relational practices and metaskills for creating an unusual amount of intimacy between people. “Something awesome is trying to happen, and your job is to allow it.” Michael McDonald, Transformational Coach http://authenticintegrity.com If you are interested in volunteering for a future event in exchange for a ticket, please fill out this form . **no refunds or exchanges are available for this event - you can sell or gift your ticket to a friend** Information Source: The Center SF | eventbrite

Prendergast’s decades of experience as a psychotherapist and spiritual teacher, the area of the body that’s most difficult for people to connect with —given our survival fear and trauma—is our physical and energetic ground. This area in the lower belly and at the base of the spine corresponds with the root chakra in the Indian subtle body tradition, the lower dan tien in Taoism, and the hara in Japanese martial arts. While most spiritual traditions focus on opening the mind and the heart, they tend to avoid or undervalue the opening of the ground. In Dr. Prendergast’s experience, this area remains largely unconscious and deeply defended. However, with the correct understanding and quality of attention, we can consciously open our multidimensional ground and, as a result, experience a felt-sense of inner safety and stability that supports the full flowering of inner peace, freedom, and loving awareness—a truly embodied spirituality. Join Dr. Prendergast for a conversation with CIIS core faculty member in graduate department of East-West Psychology Dr. Sara Max Granovetter that dives deep into our personal, archetypal, and universal ground. Sharing insights from his latest book, Your Deepest Ground , Dr. Prendergast explains how we can begin to see through the false ground of our early conditioning and limited identity. Drawing from his teaching, and years working in sensing and inquiry practices, John invites you to begin your ground-opening exploration. John J. Prendergast, Ph.D. , is a spiritual teacher, author, retired psychotherapist, and retired adjunct professor of psychology who has taught at Esalen and Kripalu and online. He studied for many years with the sage Dr. Jean Klein as well as with the spiritual teacher Adyashanti. He is the author of the books In Touch and The Deep Heart . For more information, please visit his website . Sara Max Granovetter, Ph.D., LMFT, is a core faculty member in California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) graduate department of East-West Psychology. She received her bachelor's degree in philosophy from Harvard University, and her Ph.D. from CIIS in 2021. Her research explores how nonhuman animals serve as traumatic-numinous mirrors for contemporary human psyches. A practicing mindfulness-based psychotherapist, Sara’s clinical practice, pedagogy, and research weave together analytic psychology, Buddhism, ecopsychology, and posthumanism. CinemaLit: Funny Lady (1975) | Mechanics' Institute

May 30, 2025 (UTC-7)
San Francisco
Arts
Film
May 30 - Funny Lady (1975), 150 minutes, directed by Herbert Ross, starring Barbra Streisand, James Caan, and Omar Sharif.  Funny Lady , Barbra Streisand’s follow-up to her Broadway and Hollywood triumph Funny Girl (1968) was also the last film lensed by James Wong Howe. Though he had mastered the art of photographing noirs, westerns, domestic comedies, and full-color widescreen epics, with Funny Lady Howe proved he could also film a splashy musical as well as anyone, and it earned him an Oscar nomination. Funny Lady doesn’t reach the musical and dramatic heights of Funny Girl , but it’s still amply entertaining. Sit back and enjoy the great Streisand in a bevy of dramatic and comedic production numbers, including “More Than You Know,” “I Found a Million Dollar Baby (in a Five & Ten Cents Store),” “It’s Gonna Be a Great Day,” “Am I Blue,” and “How Lucky Can You Get.” May CinemaLit - The Camera of James Wong Howe This month we honor the work of the great Hollywood cinematographer James Wong Howe (1899-1976). Howe was born in the Canton province of China in 1899. His family immigrated to Pasco, Washington when Howe was a young boy. After toying with several possible careers, including bantamweight boxer and airplane pilot, Howe pursued his early interest in photography. He landed his first job in the film business at Famous Players-Lasky. He caught the attention of director Cecil B. DeMille, who made him an assistant camera operator. Rising in his profession, Howe became a perfectionist who excelled at innovative techniques of lighting without reliance on new technology, a trait that served him well in the transition from silence to sound. He took his work seriously, valuing good relations with the director in service to the desired composition, atmosphere, and dramatic or comedic mood. Though most of his films were shot in black and white, he excelled at color, earning Oscar nominations for the color films The Old Man and the Sea (1958) and Funny Lady (1975). A few key Howe titles: Peter Pan (1924), Mantrap (1926), Sorrell and Son (1927), Laugh, Clown, Laugh (1928), The Power and the Glory (1933), Viva Villa! (1934), Fire Over England (1937), The Prisoner of Zenda (1937), The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1938), Abe Lincoln in Illinois (1940), Fantasia (1940), Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942), Air Force (1943), Body and Soul (1947), Come Back, Little Sheba (1952), Picnic (1955), The Rose Tattoo (1955), The Last Angry Man (1959), Hud (1963), and Seconds (1966). At the time of his death in 1976, Howe had amassed two Oscars, eleven nominations, and the respect of the motion picture industry for his consistent excellent artistry behind the camera. CinemaLit will be screening four of his important films, two in black and white, and two in color spanning more than forty years: The Thin Man (1934), Sweet Smell of Success (1957), The Heart is a Lonely Hunter (1968), and Funny Lady (1975).
