Experience the thrill of Dragon Boat Racing at the Maggie's Oxford Dragon Boat Racing 2025 event. Gather a team of 10 individuals and compete at the picturesque Queenford Lakes in Wallingford. Join in the friendly competition amongst various Oxford businesses and groups on June 12, 2025, from 1pm to 6pm. Registration involves a fee of £500 per team and a fundraising target of £500, with each team engaging in a minimum of 3 races. Teams need not consist of members from the same organization; mix friends and family for a diverse team. No prior training is necessary, as the sport is inclusive for all. Safety instructions will be provided on-site, and all participants must sign the terms & conditions. Supporters are encouraged to attend and cheer the teams on. Refreshments will be available for purchase. Teams have the chance to win medals for 3rd, 2nd, and 1st places, along with an overall winners' trophy. FAST-FIRE KILN FIRING COURSE June 13,14,15 Our Fastfire Kilns Course offers the perfect introduction to wood-firing ceramics, giving you hands-on experience with wood management and the process of loading and firing wood kilns here at Oxford. We encourage you to bring bisque-fired stoneware pots to test your glaze recipes and see the unique effects wood-firing can create on your own work. Throughout the course, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to deepen your understanding of wood-firing techniques, gain insights from our experienced tutors, and share knowledge with fellow participants. These courses are also a great way to get to know our facilities and connect with the wider wood-firing community. Our site is home to a variety of wood-fired kilns, which we use for both firing courses and private hire by experienced firing teams. If you’re interested in building your own kiln, we also run specialized kiln-building courses. For accommodation, we offer free on-site camping with access to hot showers and a field kitchen. If camping isn’t your preference, you’ll find plenty of nearby Airbnbs to choose from. For those booking early, we also have limited accommodation available at our field study centre in the woods. Communal cooking and dining are a cherished part of the firing experience, and we’ll organize these closer to the course date to ensure everyone feels part of the community. Alice in Wonderland Festival is usually celebrated on the first Saturday in July each year. Join venues across Oxford including the Oxford Museum, the History of Science Museum, Oxford Botanic Gardens, Weston Library, Alice Shop and the Story Museum for a variety of activities including theatre, puppetry, crafts, adventures, dance, games, talks and more to celebrate one of literature and Oxford's best-loved storytelling heroes.

Through the expansive finding of fossils and development of new techniques and methods, the 19th century transformed our understanding of the history of Earth. Breaking Ground explores these themes through William Buckland, geologist and palaeontologist, and Mary Buckland (née Morland), a scientific illustrator, the couple at the heart of this exhibition. They both helped to establish new scientific methods and ideas, which led to fascinating discoveries in palaeontology, including the first ever dinosaur to be named to science.

Welcome to Introduction To Sailing! This course is aimed at those with little or no sailing experience and looking to get out on the water to try it out under expert supervision , this course will be over 3 x Saturday 2 hour morning sessions (booking is for all three mornings) and will cover: 1. How to sail in all directions 2. how to rig and setup a keelboat 3. Safety and basic sailing rules 4. practical experience of helming and crewing a keelboat. Sheldonian Theatre, Saturday 14 June 2025, 7:30pmSchumann - Genoveva Overture Bartók - Violin Concerto no.2 Brahms - Symphony no.4 Stefan Simonca-Oprita violin Robert Max conductor In Schumann's only opera, Genoveva, drama ensues after a failed attempt to seduce Genoveva, the wife of Siegfrid. Mirroring the storyline, the overture follows the same dramatic trajectory, with music moving through ominous and wrenching moods, arriving at eventual majesty and triumph. Bartók's second violin concerto was written for Zoltán Székely, his long-standing recital partner. This concerto is infused with styles from Hungarian folk music, and is very much a celebration of life, and is played for us by Stefan Simonca-Oprita. Despite featuring great warmth and lyrical beauty, Brahm's 4th symphony has a definite tragic character. The finale is based on a passacaglia: a sequence variations on a bass pattern. Welcome to our Two-Day Linocut Workshop at 50 Hurst Street Studios 14 & 15 June 2025 On this workshop you will learn all the skills needed to make single colour and multicolour linocut prints. We will cover all parts of the process from image composition, image transfer and carving techniques, to taking a print. We will teach you to operate our printing presses, but we will also show you how to print by hand. With the skills you learn on our course, you should be able to continue to exploring linocut printmaking at home. This course is taught by Robin and Rosie from The Wytham Studio. We only take a maximum of 6 on each courses so you will receive a lot of 1:1 attention. No prior experience is necessary but if you do have some experience, because of our high staff to student ration we will be able to tailor what you learn to what your needs are. We aim to get you working on 2 prints over the course, a black and white print on the first day to get to grip with the basics of the process, and a multi-colour image on the second days so we can look at how to work with colour. We can be flexible on this depending on your previous experience and intentions. We provide all materials you will need on the course, all we ask you to bring are ideas for your prints. Years later, he would have his own debut at the Atheneum at the age of 13. Cristian is especially devoted to the Classical and Romantic repertoire. From 2018–2020 he was privileged to tour the UK as an artist of the Countess of Munster Recital Scheme. At our workshops you’ll be taught by a practicing & local artist Ula Fung. We’ll teach you some basics of the Japanese Painting style known as Nihonga (日本画) and teach you how to paint using traditional materials that includes bamboo brushes, sumi ink, Gansai Tambi 顔彩耽美 (Traditional Japanese colours), gold leaves onto Silk Fans We’ll bring a large selection of seasonal references from a wide range of Japanese Artists, both classic and contemporary. We often focus on specially selected topics Our Workshops are not about copying what’s in front of you but designing and making something of your own. You’ll learn all you need to know about how to do that in the session. Most of our students haven’t painted in a long time. This painting class is suitable for beginners as well as those with a little more artistic experience, so don't worry if it's your first time. Your teacher will be on hand to provide guidance and answer any questions. We just ask that you treat Ula with respect by listening to her demonstration as well as her advice. Afterwards, you'll get the chance to stand back and admire your beautiful Japanese painting. You'll head home with your piece and a new skill that's perfect to practice whenever you're looking to clear your head. Location & Refreshments: The workshop takes place at the Brewdog Outpost, located on Oxford Road, Manchester. A Never Ending Way : with Mark Clay Date: Sunday, 1st June. Electric Spark The word most commonly used to describe Muriel Spark is 'puzzling'. Spark was a puzzle, and so too are her books. She dealt in word games, tricks, and ciphers; her life was composed of weird accidents, strange coincidences and spooky events. Evelyn Waugh thought she was a saint, Bernard Levin said she was a witch, and she described herself as 'Muriel the Marvel with her X-ray eyes'. Following the clues, riddles, and instructions Spark planted for posterity in her biographies, fiction, autobiography and archives, Frances Wilson aims to crack her code. Electric Spark explores not the celebrated Dame Muriel but the apprentice mage discovering her powers. We return to her early years when everything was piled on: divorce, madness, murder, espionage, poverty, skulduggery, blackmail, love affairs, revenge, and a major religious conversion. If this sounds like a novel by Muriel Spark it is because the experiences of the 1940s and 1950s became, alchemically reduced, the material of her art. The Old Forest Path In an enchanted forest live magical fairies who delight in music and dance, however they always follow the old path through the woods, having been told to do so will keep them safe. It happened one afternoon, when the sun was casting its hypnotic patterns through the branches above, that from somewhere out of sight, a new and unheard music reached the delicate ears of those magical creatures. It began as a flute but then turned into a pipe. It moved like a drum but then pulsed like a stamp. The music reached high and yet still rumbled down low and it moved them all as it filtered so invitingly from its origin unknown.
