"Hotel Otsu Biwako was absolutely superb in terms of both facilities and service. It was the most satisfying hotel stay during my entire trip to Japan. We were given a high-floor room with a delightful view. There's a large VALU supermarket just a 5-minute walk from the hotel, and the drugstore next to it offers tax-free shopping. About a ten-minute walk away, there's also a sushi restaurant with excellent value for money and incredibly fresh ingredients."

"Location of the hotel is very convenient. It is 5-10 min walk from JR Otsu station which is only 2 stop away from JR Kyoto which costs about 200 yen. The room is clean and quiet but it is a bit tight for 2 mid size luggages (to open simultaneously) but still manageable. Hotel comes with full Japanese breakfast and has coin operated laundry (200yen) and dryer (free). We enjoyed our stay and would recommend to anyone who don't mind staying out of Kyoto."

"This hotel is located right by Lake Biwa, and every room boasts a large balcony where you can take in the stunning lake views. It's truly refreshing and uplifting! The hotel offers a convenient shuttle bus service right from the JR station, with pretty good frequency. Although you could walk to the hotel, providing a shuttle for this distance really shows their thoughtfulness. The onsen (hot spring) is definitely a major plus. The water quality, temperature, and ventilation were all perfect for us. Plus, enjoying the outdoor bath with views of Lake Biwa and a gentle breeze, while soaking away the day's fatigue, was just sublime! Highly recommended; I'll definitely choose this hotel again next time I'm in Otsu!"

"The lady receptionist is very helpful and kind. Much appreciated for your help! In general, the hotel situates for just a 2-minute distance from Seta JR Station, and it takes around ~20min travelling time from/to Kyoto. Reasonable facilities given the price is economic. Thank you for the hospitality."

"The location is convenient, very close to the subway station, and the room is of normal size. It is easy to find on the roadside, but there are trams on the road, so people with poor sleep may need to pay attention. I didn't feel anything when I slept alone"

"We were traveling independently, and the single room was much bigger than the one we had in a tour group before, and the environment was also very good. The highlights of this hotel: it is close to Otsu Tram Station, and there are only two stops to Kyoto by taking the new rapid line: Yamashina Station and Kyoto Station. It is more convenient to travel north to Lake Biwa. It takes less than half an hour to walk to Otsu Cruise Port, and a taxi costs about 1,000 yen. Go to Japan's national treasure town: Hikone; take the Hiei Mountain Line Cable Car (Sakamoto Station) to overlook Lake Biwa; soak in the 1,200-year-old hot springs, etc., and use the tram to transfer conveniently. If you want to see one of the three most scenic views in Japan: Amanohashidate, you can also take the JR New Rapid Line at Otsu Station and transfer to Amanohashidate Tram Station. Although this hotel is close to the tram station, it has good sound insulation and there are few trams after 10 p.m., which hardly affects sleep. We stayed here for 5 nights, visited Gion in Kyoto for one day, Lake Biwa for two days, and Mount Hiei and hot springs for one day, but it still felt like not enough time."

"It was very clean and well-cleaned. The living environment around the station is convenient, with a medium-sized supermarket, two Seven-Elevens, and a Starbucks right next door. You can do your laundry, and toothbrushes and towels are also provided. Kyoto is a 10-minute subway ride away. It felt more convenient than many accommodations in Kyoto city. Otsu is full of nature and has a calm atmosphere. I recommend it so much that I don't want to let too many people know about it (lol). The staff were all very kind, and it was fun to have the restaurant help me check in. I'm very grateful! Very clean and well-maintained. The area around the station is super convenient—there’s a mid-sized supermarket and two 7-Elevens right next door, plus a Starbucks. Laundry is available, and they provide toothbrushes and plenty of towels. It only takes 10 minutes by subway to reach Kyoto, and honestly, it felt even more convenient than many places inside Kyoto. Otsu has a peaceful, nature-filled atmosphere that’s quite refreshing. Honestly, I almost don’t want to share this gem—worried the price might go up! Big thanks to the kind staff. "It was a great stay at this ryokan! The hotel is able to arrange a car to fetch you from the JR station. You can call them using a dedicated phone at the station which is used to contact the different ryokans. The car arrived in 10mins or so. The ride to the ryokan was also less than 10mins. The hotel also fetched us to the station on the last day of our stay. The ryokan itself is homely and cozy. We were greeted by an english speaking staff who introduced us to the amenities of the ryokan. There was also a nice welcome tea and matcha chocolate. Our bags were brought to our room as well during this time. The room is spacious and cozy. The hotel prepared 2 welcome biscuits in the room which was a nice personal touch. The room has a nice living room and a great view of Lake Biwa. Recommend to catch the sunrise over the lake! There are 2 normal beds as well as futon beds (need to set up yourself). Both are comfortable. The hotel also prepared pretty yukata for both female and male guests which you can wear during the stay. There are 4 different designs for ladies, and one design for the guys. You can request for different size if the one in the room doesn’t fit you. There is also a full length mirror and a mini dressing area at the side of the living room. It was fun dressing up in the yukata! The toilet, basin, shower and hot tub areas are all separate. The toilet is a little small, but the basin and mirror area is very spacious. The shower area is quite small as well and the shower head is rather low so you need to hold the shower head if you wish to wash up while standing. There is a small stool given for you to sit down though. The hot tub area is semi-outdoor and you can see Lake Biwa. But it is quite small (only good for one person). It was too cold so we didn’t use the hot tub. Instead, we booked the private onsen for 50mins. The private onsen has a private toilet and dressing area which is equipped with hairdryer, body lotion etc. There is a water dispenser as well if you need to hydrate yourself. The onsen area has a washing area, and the hot tub area is spacious for 2 person. There are privacy screens around the onsen area but there is a small gap to let in cold air for ventilation. Wish there is a good view from the private onsen but it was still enjoyable! Dinner and breakfast was Kaiseki style, and the meals were one of the highlights for my husband and I. We really enjoyed the courses which are clean tasting yet wholesome, fresh and flavourful. It was such a sumptuous treat! The ryokan also has a souvenir shop if you wish to buy anything back. Overall, my husband and I really enjoyed the stay here and we agreed this was one of the main highlights of our 12 days trip in Japan. Highly recommend!"

"The location is very good, next to JR Shishan Station, it is convenient to go to Wuhu near the room, the room is clean; Shishan Station has bicycle rental, 500 yen a day, you can rent a car to Wuhu."

"The first time I lived in the orthodox squatter house, I was pleasantly surprised. The house is very distinctive. The sister of the hotel will not communicate with the translator because of the text but has been communicating with the translator. The breakfast is delicious. Everyone must order breakfast in advance. There is also a vinyl dish machine in the living room. It is very nostalgic and sentimental. Otsu is really a very quiet town, and on the last day of 2024 I spent a very peaceful day here."
