The Chaoyanglou Tulou Culture Homestay is located about 300 meters away from the Yongding Tulougou Scenic Area. The design style is restored as before, combined with the cultural heritage of the century-old earthen building, reborn the century-old earthen building!Overnight in a century-old ancient building, dreaming into the dazzling galaxyAs early as more than a year ago, Chaoyang Tower, which was more than 300 years old, was eroded by wind and rain so that it was in danger. The century-old ancient building was so dilapidated and depressed. It’s so embarrassing that Chaoyang Tower has been renovated after careful restoration and transformation by the study brigade. Those long-standing vertical hanging flower baskets and hollow flower windows tell people about their once glorious creations. It retains its original flavor as much as possible. Now, when you enter the Chaoyang Tower, you will see the prancing pool of koi carp. The open public space is very reasonable. Drink a cup of local tea and feel the ancient Chaoyang Tower. FragrantIn order to improve the comfort of the residents, Chaoyang Building, which originally had dozens of rooms, has only 6 rooms carefully built. In order not to damage the original appearance of the Tulou, the rooms retain the exposed walls so that the residents can touch the original building with their hands. The texture also retains the architectural wisdom of the Tulou, which is warm in winter and cool in summer. The LOFT structure of the reading travel feature makes the bathroom separated from dry and wet larger and more comfortable. It solves the shortcomings of the weak sound insulation of the Tulou itself, so that guests who live together do not have to worry about being disturbed. The carved and jade columns are full of ancient meaning. In such a peaceful environment, people can better experience the charm of Hakka culture and feel the historical changes over a century.
"The entire square Tulou building, Chaoyang Tower, has been transformed into a guesthouse. It retains many of its mottled walls, giving it a strong sense of history and rustic charm. The wooden stairs, hallway floorboards, and wooden doors all creak, which the kids found quite fun. It's truly pleasant to quietly listen to the birds, admire the distant mountains, and sip tea here.
We visited during Chinese New Year, and generally felt the festive cheer was a bit lacking. For example, the front desk didn't have any New Year's candies or similar treats (which, of course, isn't a requirement). The spring couplets by the entrance had also fallen off, and the ground floor was mostly deserted, feeling very quiet and lonely.
Breakfast was served at a different guesthouse, 'Duli', and it was absolutely delicious!
The room design had some inconveniences. The countertop next to the sink was quite low, making it uncomfortable to stoop down for makeup or other activities. Hanging space for clothes was limited, and the hanging rod felt a bit shaky, so we were hesitant to put too many items on it. In the duplex room, it got quite cold at night. While the upper level had air conditioning, the lower level did not, with only a heater in the bathroom. The shower water pressure was extremely low, and the storage water heater couldn't sustain hot water for long, leading to a very poor overall showering experience.
I'd recommend visiting on a weekday, as the prices are better value. It's acceptable for a short stay, but for a longer trip, I wouldn't advise it for anyone who enjoys taking proper showers."
