"This is a really nice, large Japanese-style hotel. The room was huge (the biggest I've stayed in for the same price in Japan), but it might be a bit out of the way, so it wasn't very busy. It's about a 15-minute walk from the subway station, but there's a shuttle bus you can book via Xiaohongshu (a Chinese social media platform). The rooftop hot spring offers ocean views and is open until midnight and from 5 AM, so you can catch the sunrise there. The room also has great ocean views and is perfect for watching the sunrise. It's also very photogenic! However, there aren't many food options or convenience stores nearby. There are vending machines, so make sure to stock up on snacks beforehand. The walk to the hotel at night can be quite dark."

"The hotel facilities are quite good; although it's an older hotel, it's clearly been recently renovated. The service was excellent. When we arrived at Izu-Atagawa Station, we hadn't arranged a pick-up with the hotel beforehand, but after a quick call, the front desk immediately sent a driver to get us. He arrived in about ten minutes, which was fantastic! I used the hotel's 11th-floor indoor hot spring and had it practically to myself every time; there was hardly anyone else there. The rooftop hot spring was noticeably more crowded, so I preferred the indoor one. We stayed in the annex, and as previous reviews mentioned, there are a few steps between the two buildings. This was a bit inconvenient for check-in and check-out when carrying luggage, but otherwise, it was fine. There's only one restaurant outside the hotel, but you can also order meals within the hotel, which is quite convenient. The scenery outside the hotel is also very beautiful. Overall, we were satisfied with our stay."

"This hotel is perfectly located right by the sea, offering a fantastic environment. Transportation is also quite convenient, with a shuttle bus running between the hotel and Kawazu Station. The breakfast was just okay. If you plan to have dinner, it's definitely best to book in advance. We didn't make a reservation this time and ended up being turned away by both restaurants because they were full. There was nowhere else to eat nearby, so we had to resort to instant noodles."

All rooms feature natural hot spring open-air baths, assisting you in enjoying the luxury of doing nothing. A hotel in Izu Okawa, offering exquisite guest room open-air baths and scenic views. The hot water in the room's open-air bath is filled to the brim, with steam rising abundantly. All baths in the facility use 73.3-degree natural hot spring water drawn from the on-site well, with each room uniquely featuring bathtubs made of cypress or Izu stone. Meals include carefully selected ingredients such as seafood from Izu, chicken from Fujinomiya, and rice from Niigata. Immerse yourself in the hot spring and enjoy moments of delight with flavorful cuisine.

"This place is located at Izu-Ōkawa Station, which is a bit off the beaten path for a transport hub in the East Izu area. The hotel offers a shuttle service, which you can book in advance via email or phone. The front desk has a ********* lady who speaks Chinese and is very helpful, answering any questions you might have. The food is quite good, and there are two large outdoor private onsens where you can see stars on a clear night. However, if you want to see a lot of stars, you should head to Ōshima or a nearby island. The room size is standard; in Japanese-style rooms, staff will lay out futons as there are no beds. The tatami mats are very new and have that unique new tatami smell. The private onsen in the room is also nice for a soak. If you're interested, there's also a wild hot spring by the sea – just Google it. You'll find a Lawson convenience store a short walk along the coastline. Overall, apart from the slightly remote location, there aren't any major drawbacks."

What really stands out is the location – you can see the ocean right from your balcony, and there's a pool too. It's incredibly good value for money! "The hotel provides a pick-up service from Izu Jiudadama. The shuttle bus is on time. I am not afraid of not finding the hotel at night. I booked a Japanese-style room for four people on the same day. At that time, the waiter has prepared the tatami bed, but there are fewer restaurants nearby! But go to the 27th Nanyidou cherry blossom and rape flower festival at night cherry blossom spot and bamboo lantern spot about 10 to 15 minutes away!"

"Service: 5/5 – On September 5, 2025, Typhoon Pipa swept across the Izu Peninsula, causing the Izu Kyuko Line to suspend all services during the day. The hotel arranged a minivan to transport all checked-out guests to Izu-Kogen Station, a 40-minute drive. Onsen (Hot Springs): 5/5 – The hot spring area is a classic, aged traditional ryokan, but the cleanliness is impeccable. The hot springs are certified, and both the men's and women's outdoor rotenburo baths are unique, with the main large bath facing the coast. Food: 4.5/5 – Both breakfast and dinner were a slightly lavish kaiseki style, and the portions were more than generous. Even our two big appetites were completely stuffed. We experienced seven different ways of preparing Kinmedai (splendid alfonsino) over two days, including a whole fish served on the first night. The lobby offers complimentary Suntory beer, which is quite good, along with free snacks. However, soft drinks are not free and need to be purchased from a vending machine. If you have specific room type requests, you can communicate them with the ryokan in advance, and they genuinely try to accommodate them. When staying at this type of old-fashioned ryokan, it's best to state your needs directly, otherwise, it might affect your experience. Higashiizu Town is a rural town built into the mountains. Shopping is decent thanks to an Aeon supermarket, but dining out isn't very convenient."

"I read the novel The Flower of Money and really wanted to visit Atagawa It was the most impressive travel destination during my 8-day trip to Tokyo This hotel is currently under partial construction But maybe because of that I was able to enjoy the sea view alone So I could really feel the feeling of relaxation The stuffy and stingy Tokyo hotels Healed me at Atagawa Yamatokan. The hot spring is not a facility that receives water that flows down It is a natural hot spring that flows down, so it is clean And the fragrant cypress and cypress scent was really impressive And~I was so grateful for the staff's perfect service from check-in to check-out."

"Facilities: The location is very good. The public bath of the hotel is a must-see for sunrise. The environment is also very quiet and comfortable. It is recommended to experience it once in the morning and once in the evening. The private bath can be reserved for free once, and the use time is 45 minutes. The hotel shuttle bus will pick you up. The public and private baths have towels, hair dryers, skin care products and bathing supplies. There are many styles of free yukatas, which are clean and new. There are 24-hour massage chairs, free ice cream, drinks and snacks in the rest area. Hygiene: The hygiene of the public and private baths is very good. There are few people before sunrise in the morning and before the evening. Although it is an open-air public bath, the privacy is well protected, but there is no feeling of embarrassment or discomfort at all. Environment: In one word, beautiful and new Service: As soon as you get off the train, you can see the hotel pick-up staff. The service is very good and very proactive throughout the whole process. Most employees can speak English, and the few employees who can't also actively use translators. They are all very polite and enthusiastic, and they respond to requests. Japanese French cuisine ”Sagami Bay Tour”: The only point I don't like, the Japanese French food ingredients are so-so, and there is a feeling of mixed and unconventional, not very delicious, too long but the dishes served are not surprising, and I didn't eat enough, a little regretful. But it seems that the hotel's official website also has other dinner packages to choose from, but Ctrip doesn't have them. I hope there will be more. The breakfast is a traditional Japanese breakfast, which is pretty good."

Outstanding
MM519193****Super satisfied! There is a special butler who is responsible for your diet and other arrangements every day. It is a Vietnamese lady. The English is very fluent. It will also have a little Chinese. The service is very good. Especially worth mentioning is that the dinner is particularly good. The ingredients are fresh. All kinds of seafood lobster sashimi. The abalone is oversized. The taste is really good. The price is full. Our room type is a balcony with foot soup. It is very special. It is very comfortable to watch the maple leaves in the courtyard. The hotel has private soup and public soup. Private soup needs to be reserved at one time every day. Free tea every day. Ice cream and milk are provided. The only possible location is relatively remote. It is not convenient for tourists who are not self-driving. There is no reception at the front desk when we first entered the check-in, which caused us to find a long time. But the whole is really good, very recommended

GGuest UserThe ocean view was stunning, and the breakfast was a bit better than expected—a buffet with local flavors. It might be a bit far from a convenience store, but it's within walking distance. We rented yukata, and the lady who made the bed patiently tied a beautiful two-tone bow for each of us! Overall, it was a great stay.

KkahoooooThey called me twice to confirm my reservation, so I could tell they were very attentive even before I arrived. They were always friendly and helpful when I arrived, and I was able to check in comfortably! I was looking forward to dinner, and it was gorgeous, delicious, and even better than I expected! The breakfast included sashimi, which was a shame I couldn't finish. The bath had a great view, so I was able to relax in it. I was happy that there were L'Occitane amenities in the room!

MMiasmileKanto-Izu Trip in September 2025~ For this Izu trip, we stayed at Atagawakan. After exiting JR Izu-Atagawa Station, I was about to walk to the hotel with my luggage when I saw Atagawakan's shuttle bus pulling up right outside, so I hopped right on. Over the next few days, I noticed the shuttle runs very frequently – I wonder if it's timed with the JR train schedule? It's not actually a long walk, but there are some inclines and declines, which can be a bit tiring. The front desk at Atagawakan always has staff who speak Chinese, making communication very convenient. The overall environment is also excellent, grand and tidy. Although it has the classic layout of an older onsen hotel, it's quite comfortable and cozy. The room was spacious enough, with a balcony directly overlooking the ocean and offering sunrise views. Falling asleep to the sound of the waves at night, I slept wonderfully. I've had a few experiences with Japanese-style rooms in onsen hotels before, and they were usually quite average, and I didn't sleep well. So I was surprised that here, even with the sound of the waves and direct sunlight from the sunrise early in the morning, neither affected my sleep. The hot springs are on the 4th floor. There aren't many baths, but there are both indoor and outdoor options. I went late, so I practically had the whole place to myself every day, which was very comfortable. There are a few restaurants near the hotel, not a huge selection, but the ones I tried had excellent ingredients, and I was very satisfied with all of them. They are definitely worth trying.

MMonmenmingOverall, it was a fantastic experience. The hotel gave me a high-floor room, and the view was absolutely incredible! I'd definitely go back just for that ocean view. It's so photogenic! The only downside is that the hotel rooms are a bit old, but considering it's a decades-old hotel, that's understandable. The smell when you enter the room is like that of a straw mat, not an unpleasant odor. What I highly recommend are dinner and breakfast, especially dinner—it was amazing! Incredibly delicious, and they had bluefin tuna belly, which was super fresh! I also got to try Izu's specialty, Kinmedai (splendid alfonsino). During dinner, staff would come to help us lay out the futons, which felt very cozy. I slept incredibly well, and the free onsen at the hotel is also highly recommended!

GGuest UserThis is a bit worn out and simple hotel. The best things were the extremely friendly and helpful staff, as well as the super delicious dinner & breakfast that was included in the price. I ate maybe the most delicious croissant ever here. The variety and the quality of food was great. Things to improve are  the facilities, especially the onsen. It’s very small but more importantly, it wasn’t well maintained and there was no emergency button. When my mom felt like fainting, it wasn’t possible to call for help.  Also the air conditioner in the room was very loud, making it difficult to sleep. All in all, good stay.

GGuest UserWe had a delicious and fun time with the family. The private beach was also wonderful. If it was summer swimming season, the waves would be calm and it would be easy for children to play there. It was the last weekend of March during spring break, but the hotel was well thought out and didn't feel crowded, which was nice. The freshly fried tempura in the dining area and the fried bread for breakfast were very popular and delicious. However, the smell of oil permeated the yukata and hair I was wearing, so I felt like taking a bath and washing my hair again after the meal. I think it would be difficult, but if the ventilation environment was good, it would be perfect! That's how I felt.

GGuest UserThe hotel is right by the sea. The view from the window of the room is very beautiful. Dinner and breakfast are complete and delicious. There is an outdoor onsen upstairs of the hotel. And there is a private onsen as well. The staff are willing to serve even though they can't speak English. But try to communicate with the guests Overall worth the price paid.

LLThe staff are very polite and always willing to help. The room is big and comfortable. The sound-proof work is also effective, so I hardly hear any noise from rooms nearby. However, note that the hotel is in the middle of a mountain. If you don’t drive, you have to rely on the car service which the hotel offers (free of charge but not always available). It is almost impossible to go by foot. However, I must say the hotel staff has always tried their best to cater your needs, which I appreicate very much.

SSarah GraceWe had an amazing 1 night stay at Shizentenyu... i'm still dreaming about the view from our room and the restaurant... amazing!!! We didn't realize that our room included a full 7-course set dinner menu, which was one of the highlights from our trip! The service was impecable, food delicious, and a huge thank-you to Alfie who guided us through our set menu in English. We would have been very confused without him. Our room was clean, spacious, and comfortable, the Onsen lovely, we appreciated the lounge with free coffee, tea, beer, and popsicles. We also braved the steep walk down to the private beach and went for a refreshing swim! We wish we could have stayed longer!
