Located inside the Datong old city, the inn itself is a historic building and has a history of its own. There are many interesting decors to look at in the property. The location is excellent and nearby some very good restaurants. It has a laundry room with 2 washers and 1 dryer which are very important in my opinion.The room was very nice, the cleanliness was very good and kept in very good condition. Although there was no rotating menu for the buffet breakfast each morning, the food is good and there's also beef/lamb offal rice noodles on request. The best parts about the hotel are the staff and service. They were extremely welcoming and friendly. I usually get disappointed by restaurant recommendations by hotel staff but all the restaurants recommended were excellent and not overly expensive. They could help you make a reservation (those restaurants get super busy on weekends and holidays) as well if you don't speak Chinese. We had to check out really early on the last day and the staff promptly packed us some eggs and bread for breakfast even though we didn't request it the night prior. I'm sure if you request it the day/night before, they'll be able to pack you something more substantial. I don't normally leave reviews but this property was worth my time.

The location is great, nestled between Yingxun Gate (South Gate) and Shangxi Gate, making it convenient for sightseeing yet surprisingly quiet. The facilities are good, but what really impressed me was picture #2 [assuming this refers to a specific feature/amenity shown in a picture]. I hope they can plug in the outlets before guests check in. The buckwheat pillow was very comfortable! The service was excellent; they communicated in advance about pickup/drop-off and even offered to drive me to attractions. Breakfast was abundant, featuring local specialties like Pingyao beef. It was well-balanced and tasty. The menu changed over the two days, though for me, there was a bit too much meat. If a full buffet isn't feasible, perhaps offering an à la carte menu where guests can choose their items would help reduce waste. And the cats at the hotel are adorable!

The B&B is close to the North Gate, so it was pretty easy to find. The owner even picked me up from Pingyao Ancient City Station late at night, which I really appreciated – it made my travel experience so much better. They carefully explained the locations of attractions and gave me a map. When I left, they even gave me some vinegar as a gift; they're incredibly warm and welcoming. Seriously, if you're coming to Pingyao, you should definitely stay here, haha! It's safe, clean, and the facilities are all there. For longer stays, they even proactively clean your room. The decor has a local flair too – who wouldn't want to try sleeping on a traditional heated 'kang' bed without any fuss? Thanks for everything, I'll definitely stay here again next time. Loved it, loved it!

A Must-Revisit: Everything about this place, from the aesthetics to the service, is top-notch. If I ever find myself back in Pingyao, there is no doubt that I will choose to stay here again. The Renyi is a wonderful hotel in a great location looking onto the City walls. We were greeted by the friendly and welcoming owner who showed us to our rooms. We were two independent travellers who decided to have a room each, and both rooms were superb. Mine looked onto the pretty courtyard while my friend’s faced the City walls, with each having a balcony with table and chairs. Both rooms were duplex with comfortable and spacious living areas and bathroom/showers downstairs and the bedroom upstairs. All areas were spotlessly clean and the bed was big and comfortable and I had a wonderful night sleep. Centre stage though is the gorgeous communal area which was adorned with beautiful plants and flowers, a small fish pond and even a peacock that gloriously but quietly strutted its stuff. The location of the hotel is perfect for walking around the ancient city with the major tourist attractions only minutes from the hotel’s door. The ancient city itself is stunning and delightful to walk around. We also took a trip to the nearby Yungang Grottoes which are breathtaking and a must see. We were both amazed by their beauty and historical significance to both Chinese and Buddhist cultures. There are also many great restaurants within walking distance of the Renyi, and the owners were very helpful and provided us with any advice we needed. As other reviewers have said the Renyi is a beautiful blend of historic and modern and I would highly recommended the hotel to anyone thinking of staying in DaTong.

We had a lovely time in our loft style room. The courtyard of the hotel is beautiful and preserved in the authentic ancient style. They offered free pickup and drop off to both train stations and gave us sliced apple and pear upon arriving as well as a free breakfast in the morning. The room warmed up nicely after turning on the AC. Super friendly hosts who were super receptive and helpful (they gave us a map of the ancient city and pointed out the main attractions) and also linked us up with a tour guide. Very reasonably priced on top of everything. Wonderful overall, highly recommend!

Traveling with my family, I chose to stay inside Pingyao Ancient City. There are many guesthouses here, and it turns out choosing Qigong Mansion was the smartest decision! It's a peaceful spot tucked away on the main street of the ancient city. From the moment I stepped in, I was deeply drawn to the historic charm of the old house. The bedding was super comfortable, I could sleep for a long time without my back hurting. Even though it's an old house, it wasn't damp or cold, and every corner of the room was immaculately clean. The breakfast was also delicious, and the thoughtful service from the owner, landlady, and driver was especially noteworthy. Next time I visit Pingyao, I'll definitely stay here again. It's a guesthouse you'll miss after leaving, full of warmth and human touch ❤️

My trip to Pingyao was pretty perfect this time, especially this hotel. It's definitely the most satisfying and best value-for-money stay I've had. First off, the hotel's location is excellent, right on Yamen Street inside the ancient city, very close to the core attraction, the County Government Office. Other places like Xie Tong Qing and Tong Xing Gong are also not far. Secondly, the hotel blends ancient charm with modern comfort. The overall style is that of an old-fashioned courtyard, with each room having its own small yard. Inside, however, it's modern hotel style. Although my room wasn't huge, it had all the essential facilities, and even featured a wet/dry separation bathroom. Lastly, the price was very reasonable, making it incredibly good value for money! PS: At checkout, the front desk lady even gave me some local Pingyao specialties, which was a lovely surprise!

Excellent value for money, spotlessly clean, and the staff provide great service. Breakfast is included, and the location offers very convenient transportation for exploring. In the evenings, it's lovely to stroll out to the square and enjoy the cool air. I wholeheartedly recommend Wutongge Hotel to anyone planning a trip to Datong.

I absolutely love the vibe of this building; it feels like stepping back in time! The owner's service was excellent; they personally picked me up and dropped me off at the North Gate. Since it was off-season, it was very quiet during my stay, and everything was comfortable. When I was looking, I noticed that rooms at other guesthouses were relatively small, but theirs were a bit larger for the same price, which made for a more comfortable stay. A special mention: you can actually use their place as a shooting location, and the owner provides a one-stop service, including arranging clothes. You can also wear your own traditional attire and take photos within the premises, which is just fantastic! A big thank you to the front desk gentleman for the one-stop service and to the lady for her warm farewell.
