I visited Shin-Yamaguchi after a few days in Fukuoka. The weather was still cold, and it rained a little. From the station, just cross the street, and you’ll arrive at the hotel. It’s about a three-minute walk if you have luggage. Next to the hotel, there’s a 7-Eleven and many izakayas.
The manager greeted me warmly, and the staff were extremely friendly. They would greet guests as they walked in, making me feel very welcome. Welcome drinks and coffee are available until midnight—I loved their lemon water! You can also use the library/cafeteria for work or reading, which is quite convenient.
Amenities are placed on the first floor next to the elevator. Breakfast tickets are available, with multiple time slots to choose from. The room size is big for the price. The bathroom is compact, but I had no issues enjoying a bath. The only inconvenience was the lack of a remote control to adjust the air-conditioner’s wind direction.
There are two washing machines and two dryers on the fourth floor, both of which can be connected via an app. If you don’t have coins, you can pay through the app with a credit card, and it will show a timer for when your laundry is done. The washing machine is easy to use, but the dryer took a bit long. Ice is also available on this floor.
There are no complimentary bottled waters in the room, so I often went down to the first floor for lemon water and coffee.
Breakfast was more abundant than I expected. Since this is a chain hotel, I didn’t expect much, but I was pleasantly surprised by the selection. The menu seemed to change daily, and I really enjoyed having breakfast here. Definitely worth the price. If I visit Yamaguchi again, I would definitely book this hotel!
It is recommended to take the bus two stops from the train station. The bus stop is opposite and the bus to Akiyoshidai is also nearby. This price is very cost-effective to experience one night and two meals.
Location is convenient, 5-minute walk from JR Shimonoseki Station - through the footbridge or the underpass (footbridge recommended if you are carrying with you large pieces of luggage as elevators are available). Room setting is great - I especially liked the couch area. Cleanliness was acceptable, but could have been even better. Coin laundry machines at the hotel are among the best I've tried - the passcode lock feature of the machines prevents your clothing items from being mistakenly taken by others.
Smile Hotel Shimonoseki is right next to the JR station. Walk to the right and follow the station for two minutes. The JR station building is also the Daimaru Shopping Center. From the basement to the fourth floor are shops, restaurants and supermarkets. The bus station is right in front of the hotel. Buses 1 to 4 go to Karato Market. The seafood restaurants in Karato Market sell cheap salmon sashimi. Shimonoseki is a historic place and worth a visit.
I stayed in the capsule, but all of the rooms, showers, toilets, and shared areas were clean and comfortable. One point, it was a little troublesome to have to put on shoes and go outside and get off the elevator to get out of the capsule room and go to the common area. i think it's not possible to do it in the structure of the building. . .
The hotel is conveniently located near the JR and bus stations. Although the hotel's exterior is older, there are comic books for guests to read in the lobby. The front desk staff is friendly and helpful, and the rooms are spacious and comfortable.
Unfortunately, there were no Japanese side dishes for breakfast. It would be better if the parking lot was free. The wind and elevator noise were very loud.
Everything is good. The hotel has complete service facilities, including a laundry room. I finally washed and dried the clothes from the previous week. It is a little far from JR Shimonoseki Station. After exiting Shimonoseki Station, walk to the second-floor overpass until you get off the vertical elevator at the end and turn right at the next intersection. There is a local supermarket across the road on the right side of the hotel, which is quite rich. The night-time ramen 🍜 of the hotel is quite good.

GGuest UserThis hotel has a great location. From the rooms, lobby, and restaurant, you can see the ocean, Tsunoshima Island, and Tsunoshima Bridge, and the views are amazing. We were also able to take a walk on the beach right in front of the hotel. We were very satisfied with the delicious buffet, which had a wide variety of options for both dinner and breakfast.
The large public bath was amazing, with an open-air bath where you could watch the sunset.
In the evening, we were taken on a night tour of Tsunoshima Island in a minibus. (Free of charge)
Next time, we would like to go swimming in the sea in the summer.

RRaymondHaving similar apartment booked with the same host for the trip. Frankly, overall experience is good, though this property is a little dusty. Hagi is not a city for shopping, also found it difficult for dining out though quite a number of restaurants around, most of them were fully booked on the day we stay. Have to drive 5 minutes for food around McDonald's and Lawson. It's still a great place to visit and stay at this property and
a property value for money!
JJames_ParkI visited Tokuyama Port for work related to docked ships. It was close enough to walk to. The hotel was cleaned daily and maintained in a spotless condition. There was a Family Mart right in front, making it convenient to grab meals. Breakfast featured traditional Japanese cuisine, along with bread and sausages. The staff folded an origami whale with kindness and placed it on the desk. I'll definitely choose Sunroute Hotel again next time!
